Dr. Hook - What About You Lyrics
The days have been long, and I have been lonesome
Recallin' the dreams that never came true
The nights have been lonely, but now that's all over
'Cause I've paid my debt for trusting in you
Clouds drift away, sunshine peeps through
Every night no longer you haunt me
My conscience is clear, oh what about you?
It's hard to believe that you are the same one
That once meant so much and I loved so true
It's hard to know I worshipped the wrong one
But I've paid for it, oh what about you?
Everyday your memory grows dimmer
Every night no longer you haunt me
My conscience is clear, now what about you?
Everyday your memory grows dimmer
Clouds drift away, sunshine peeps through...

Waylon is actually singing back up vocals here, if you listen you can't mistake it

Doesn't get any better than this! Beautiful song!! Love Dr. Hook and Waylon!!❤️
I love Waylon & Hook singing. Love
only found this channel when on a bored search a couple of months ago. wow wow wow love it and the band (of course) :-)
I sure love that Waylon like Hook.
I just found out Waylon Jennings sang the harmony on What About You! I always thought it was Ready doing a voice. Thisis a revelation for me...mind blown!!
Waylon is there with Dennis.
Sing it Dennis. Love
I read that Waylon had a hand in producing this. Can't help but here his influence in the music.
this a great song and for a little history check out the Johnnie and Jack original version
not only is waylon harmonizing, but it's HIS band, the WAYLORS playing on this song...you could say SHEL SILVERSTIEN wanted Waylons take on it..
I just discovered this was Waylon...NOT Ray doing a "voice."
Do you know of any other established artists appearing on Dr Hook recordings?
I will even go so far as to say IT'S WAYLONS BAND playing this shit.....9
Fucking Waylon harmonizing and playing kick ass licks, with Ralph Mooney on that beautiful fucking steel pedal slide....my God people....does it get better than this
LOVE Dr Hook !! Played their records all the time and saw them in concert in Vancouver as a teen. Extremely talented group! And Shel Silverstein was a fabulous writer, and wrote other stuff besides songs for Dr Hook - look him up. I had forgotten all about this song, but the words all came back to me right away :) Thank you Ronja for posting all these great memories.
We may have seen the same concert ,I also saw them in Vancouver back when I was a teenager somewhere around the exhibition grounds, man that was a long time ago!
I was born in 64
I remember hook from the early days. great to hear them again. wow, what a great
band. every song is a favorite.
Does Waylon really sing with Dr.Hook???? It surely sound like his voice in the background.
@Lili Doucet good day to you too my dear and Waylon is even playing guitar on the song too, along with some of his band members. Waylon and Shel Silverstien were good friends
i believe they were, they even recorded Jessie Colter's song
have a great day as well.
Take good care and continue listen to Waylon... he is the best
Sounds like his band is backing hook too, it has the signature beat and Mooney
I meant to say, 'this is very good'
I like Waylon's version better but his is very good. Beautiful song!
Waylon's backup vocals in this are fantastic...
sorry to disagree, but this is the best version
what about you
Waylon's voice....! As always great Hook, great Waylon
i love this song from dr hook i kept playing it back when i listen to it...thank you so much for sharing this to us!!!!
Dennis said Waylon talked them into doing this song.... I think it's a great song for them, Dr. Hook could have been an awsome full time country band.
All these take me back "What About You"
Ronja,
You who love country music, maybe you can hear that it is Waylon Jennings who are singing backing/harmony vocals on this one. Waylon was also involved in producing this.
I must say I LOVE IT
Cheyenne
Brilliant!!!! Got it on a couple of their albums, Ronja, and this is now in my Favourites list. Many thanks, once again xxx
Great track from thier 1976 LP "A Little Bit More"..:}
