Dr. Hook - Queen Of The Silver Dollar Lyrics
She arrives in all her splendor
Every night at nine o'clock
And her chariot is the crosstown bus
That stops right down the block
Then the old piano minstrel
And the Queen of the Silver Dollar's home again
She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smoky kingdom
And her scepter is a wine glass
And this bar stool is her throne
And the jesters flock around her
And fight to win her favors
And see which one will take the Queen
Of the Silver Dollar home
Her royal gown is a satin dress
That's stained and slightly torn
And her sparklin' jewels are rhinestones
And her shoes are scuffed and worn
From the many roads she's traveled
And the wondrous sites she's seen
And I watch her and I pray
God save the Queen
The Queen of the Silver Dollar's
Not as haughty as she seems
She was once an ordinary girl
With ordinary dreams
But I found her and I won her
And I brought her into this world
Yes, I'm the man who made a Queen
Of a simple country girl
Now she's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smoky kingdom
And her scepter is a wine glass
And this bar stool is her throne
And the jesters flock around her
And fight to win her favors
And see which one will take the Queen
Of the Silver Dollar home

Why can't this kind of talent be found now-a-days.....too much studio redos and media hype
I think they took part of the melody from the song, fields of athenry, by brush Shiels.
... I tell you...
Awesome timeless band
These boys drove the British a..s... with their zany yells and gutteral exclamations. Pure American genius on par with Frank Zappa. Their humor smote the Brits to kingdom come.
Cover of the Rolling Stone....
Just wow...💕
🥀Amazing song🥀These guy's feel like family members because I've been listening so long and I love it🥀🕊🥀
Freakin love the horns! Makes this song awesome.
Now there are 380 people out there with zero taste for real music and a band that could sing and play. Probably all rapcrappers
Rapcrappers, lol!!!! So true.
58 still listening
This is a fantastic version of this beautiful song xxxxx
I heard this song for all of five seconds on a small radio station before I walked into work this morning at three forty in the morning. Five seconds is all it took for me to fall in love with song. I committed what little lyrics I heard, and I googled the lyrics as soon as I got home.
Respect to the Queen!

Have had the extreme pleasure and privilege of seeing him live over a dozen times in my life and although band members changed, he was always there and always awesome 👍👍✌♥️🤗🤗🎶🎤🤠
This song I swear was written and sang for my ex the bar fly. Sad life she has. Chose the beers in the bar over many of us guys.... Thank God I wasn't one of her 5 failed marriages! Almost, but nope.
Loved this group still do
Dr hook can still rock ray and the boys rock on my brothers
I still know all the words from listening to Dr. Hook n the Medicine Gang greatest hits CD on what felt like repeat for months in my Dads car, I was probably 7-8 years old (I can only imagine what my Mom thought about me singing this song lol).
I am 31 years old and still get the same joy and spark to my soul listening and singing along to this song. Especially as soon as the horns just blare in after the first verse @ 00:51
I was able to go to Dr Hook’s freaker’s ball in Vancouver BC in the seventies
Absolute class. God bless Ray
Last morning / Carrie/ and queen of the silver dollar timeless greats
Carrie is one of my favorites!
Still love Dr. Hook. Dennis Loccoriere's unique vocals have always been outstanding. My favorite group. Still listen to Dennis today.
Saturday nightmare every bar.
Hell I get in a mood and need the Dr Hook and cant stop till the itch goes away in a smoky haze and the freaks have a ball
This post sounds like the lyrics of a song, sounds good.
They belong in the rock and roll hall of fame
Have loved Dr Hook since I first heard them
I guess it was mid to late 70's Dr. Hook was playing every month at LaBastille in Houston Tx. Everytime I went downtown I saw his name on the marque. Maybe he played a whole year there. Anyone else remember this?
If you could still smoke in bars that's my last girl to a tee
Bra eller bara bäst
I've spent over four decades in the music biz as an audio engineer - mostly bar gigs. Still can't help but shed a tear when I hear this wonderful, yet sad song...
dr hook.. need I say more?
Why oh why did theyb split up???
💙💕🌹💙👣💕🌹
💙👣🌹💙👣🌹💙
Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show had their own unique style; not really rock or country or even folk. P.S. This is as good as Dave & Sugar.
💙💐💙💐💙👣💐
Some of the finest: entertainers, musicians and philosophers of my generation.
So proud to have been and still be one of their fans.
To Ray and the Dr Hook family.
Y'all helped many of us through a hard time. moments of our life the only thing made it bearable was music.
The most wild part is the truth to the lyrics in the songs, I've known numerous queens of the silver dollar and everyone of us did sing along so that we could be on the cover of the Rolling Stone.
Plus which one of us didn't fall in love with a Sylvia and then missed her for numerous years of our life. Good bless you Ray and Dr Hook for helping me to be who I am, we all will miss you forever!
Storm Charley
One of the greatest slut songs ever made!

These guys make me wish I had been a groupie when I was young.
Used to go to a bar in Temple Texas named the silver dollar owned by doak walker !
Heard the country version first from Dave and Sugar
there was a bar named the silver dollar in my town in the 70s and that was the most played song
I'll always wonder what Sylvia would have done if he could have talked to her.
i came back form a tough time in Vietnam. i was nurse. i just lost it and hung out at bars feeling sorry for myself when i came home. i met my husband at this certain bar, and he saved me. i.stopped feeling sorry for myself and life is good now. this song means a lot to me.

Such a big fan since I was a kid and now trying to learn to play these songs. Utterly love them. Think maybe that's what gave me such 'bad' taste in men. :-) Handsome but little devils.
