Dr. Hook - Carry Me, Carrie Lyrics
Second Street and Broadway
Sittin' in a doorway
Head held in his hands
Looked to all the world
Like he was prayin'
Bottle in a brown bag
I saw him trying to stand
Then I heard the words that he was sayin'
He said...
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie, carry me a little while
When he struggled to his feet
And staggered down the street
To the window of a five and dime
He stood and laughed a while at his reflection
And then I heard him shoutin'
Something 'bout a mountain
He could surely climb
If she was only there
To point to right direction
But she ain't, no, but she ain't, no...
He said
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
I don't know where it's leadin' to
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little while...

Shel was a poet and these boys spread the poets words! And they did it so well. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t play a Dr. Hook song along with a song from the Band to back it up! Do lucky to grow up during the time where these guys were in their prime! God Bless you all!!
😥✌🌻
Timeless old treasures
The Boys had Harmony.....voice n soul!!
Loveeer
🥀Beautiful Sad Song and I love every minute of it & these Guy's🥀🕊🥀
So Great and wonderful country rock band, Dr. Hook; beautiful songs and voices; this one is performancing with a lot of feeling, so autentic, with all this hippie ambient, the dramatization acting of Sawyer, Locorrier voice, and the rest of the guys.
i wont to marry dennis
omg he looks off hes face...
dennis
If heaven exists, then I am sure it is on Shel's houseboat.
What year is this from? Thanks
Just incredible right ?
Though I know Ray passed away at the end of 2018.
I never knew until just just a few weeks ago that he only lived 15 minutes from my dang house.
Had I known before his passing I can assure you I would have been sitting on his porch drinking sweet tea with him and convincing him to beat on the guitar.
I know a couple of people who knew Ray Sawyer and said the man was so kind and welcoming. And charished the times he was able to spend with fans who grew up loving what Dr. Hook created in those many years.
I appreciate you finding and sharing this video.
So powerfull and full of emotion. This type of band and the music they created is lost forever.
Rest In Peace! Going to miss you.
Rip my man
I could listen to Dennis's laugh on a loop..love it
Great group
Stoned out of their gourds...but still making fantastic music :)
They are totally stoned
I love Roy Sawyer 💙💙 so much, l can hear him singing in Heaven with the Angels but a little more restrained. I love you Man.
Jacqulin B.
great stuff, nothing else to say
These guys were stoned - immaculate
I've never heard this one
Of their was ever a band I would have liked to be a part of its these guys.....for those who have passed RIP you left us such great memories with your art.....the real deal
So wasted talent! Had to cancel show in Anaheim because they couldn't function. Huge disappointment to fans. Heroin ruined talent again!
Dennis had cancer and had to undergo rapid treatment, so his show was canceled. He is now running a new show for 2020
@Ronja´s Dr Hook Channel not criticizing dr hook. Heroin is what I hate and what it does to talent. Concert was in Anaheim back in early 70s, crazy days for all of us!
I met Dennis once after a show in Wales. He signed a copy of his book for me, seemed like a nice guy.
East Coast vs West Coast: "something boys/Beach Boys.
If you are going to play fucked up it is best to practice fucked up.
😭😳🙄😱
Any one know whom the random guy is in the middle of Ray and billy?
off there heads but what a song and performance
Such passion in his voice...
Masterpiece no mistake
An absolute beautifully written song !! And the way he sings it with angst in his voice tugs at your emotional heart strings. What a story the song tells and everyone singing feels the message it portraying
Best Damn Song They Ever Made...Hands down !!!!!
love these guys music
WHO IS THE GUY WITH THE LONG HAIR BESIDE OF JAY DAVID AND DENNIS?
Rik Elswit
Where was this recorded? Looks like a boat in the UK?
Feel sorry for all the people in the world that weren’t teenagers in the 70’s!
Remember on log rollin ,,,dicky was tug boat,,uncle the barge operator,,,,,pulled me in before I got squashed by logs
I'm glad I came of age when I did . This IS my generation !
I fucking love this
LYRICS:
Second Street and Broadway
Sittin' in a doorway
Head held in his hands
Looked to all the world
Like he was prayin'
Foot wrapped in old rag
Bottle in a brown bag
I saw him trying to stand
Then I heard the words that he was sayin'
He said
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
I don't know where it's leadin' to
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie, carry me a little while
Well he struggled to his feet
And staggered down the street
To the window of a five and dime
He stood and laughed a while, at his reflection
And then I heard him shoutin'
Something 'bout a mountain
He could surely climb
If she was only there
To point, the right direction
But she ain't, no, but she ain't, no
He said
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little farther
Come on, Carrie
Carry me one more mile
I don't know where it's leadin' to
But I know I can make it if I lean on you
So come on, Carrie
Carry me a little
I carried you, now carry me a little
Come on, Carrie
Carry me a little while, yeah
Carry me, Carrie
Carry me, yeah
Carry me, Carrie
Carrie, carry me
You got to carry me
You got to carry me
Carry me, Carrie
Carry me, Carrie
You got to carry me
You got to carry me
We must all bow down before the Great Uncle Shelby for blessing us with these beautiful lyrics!!! May he forever look down on us with amusement.
Walking tall in 2020
I think Dennis broke a string.
Could this Guy possibly be crazy as Syd Barrett? I love it!
Even wasted these guys were great 👍 by the way I’m wasted listening to him now lol 😂
Interesting..... I have a strong impression that Jack Black got much of his singing styling from Dr.Hook !!
My favorite song! I could so relate to this, named my first daughter Carrie..
This folk is what freedom is really all about.... I pity today's kids if they breath too much they get chastised I know I know drugs ain't good for the sole / health but what the hell

15 years before mtv unplugged we have shel's houseboat .
I'm a 70 year old guy but when I hear Dr. Hook I'm transported to the times I loved best. The music of today Is crap compared the masterpieces of this amazing group and the amazing 60s and 70s.
seems high on somthin'
Ronja, I looked this one up this morning for a reason. Feeling the mileage of a Carrie LoL. Thank you for the great video I knew you’d have.
these guys are stoned so hard! XD
WOW, the coke must have been bangin, literally!!!
So damn GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it!!!
Stoned much? 🤪
On the last comment 5 yrs ago PDZ1122. At the time it was the culture I feel and if not in the so called circle as getting into the music culture at the time you either had to be different or on drugs. My belief is that that you could not be this good if stoned completely and was a stage effect to fit in so to speak. BUT if they were I wish more people was on dope than on Ice these days and produce fun and good music rather than death and destruction.
that's talent I've always loved their music. harmony wow
This is sooo good. Thanks.
I wish I had a time machine to go back and party with them on that boat.

O baby we can't wait for that opportunity to hatch an piston pumpitride with you ... Please baby give Me'S mouth to mouth. Hymlic Me'S one more time.
Man that stoner laugh is heartwarming
Found my love for this band from a 45 my cousin had...”Queen of the Silver Dollar”. We wore that record out!! I believe this one was on the flip side...that was 1977-78.
Ok, I'm convinced the lead singer of The Darkness is a time traveler. (Dude in the blue denim shirt)
What an ending!
Wow!
Faarrr oouut!
I think they needed to put more emotion in the performance.
🥀I love this song and these Guy's🥀✌
🥀RIP Ray Sawyer We Love You🥀🕊🥀☝️
Was that Bruce Springsteen?
soo stoned but best sound .....
Tudo muito ... Louco, cara !!!
I LOVE IT!
I thought this song was fabulous. These guys really put a lot of emotion and feelings in their music. I thought they were great in the 70’s and I still play their music. Figuring they only get better with age, they are probably smocking hot now too.
Shel's house boat songs/performances are simply perfect.
Met these guys in a bar a god-awful long time ago. They were just as fun off stage as they were onstage. We drank, we partied, we laughed, seriously angered my guy...turned out he was a dud. Awesome group of guys!
I see Dennis winked at me at 3.47 - right back at you 😉. Awesome performance!!!!
