Doves - The Sulphur Man Lyrics

"Underrated" does not even begin to do justice to this song, this album, or this band. The Last Broadcast got very strong reviews at the time, and I'd say they haven't quite managed to top it as an album since, but Doves should have had the success Coldplay enjoyed.

Why does shite music continually breed and masterpieces like this go unknown? What a song!

Doves' great ability as a band was to use the studio and its effects (helped by their background in dance music I suspect) to make soundscapes that can be mindblowing.

The Sulphur Man, alongside The Cedar Room and Words is maybe one of the times that Doves truly hit that studio effects - songwriting combo peak.

They've made other great songs, and even more exciting/exhilarating ones, but that trio define them best perhaps as a recording band.

Words, There Goes the Fear, Pounding, and Caught by the River seem to get the most attention from this album, and while they’re excellent, the true shining stars on the album are this and Last Broadcast, imo. So much depth to them, amazing listening with headphones, just..mesmerizing.

God I haven't heard this song in years but still LOVE IT. I absolutely love this album, it's very dear to me and it's one of their best. I miss Doves so much!!
