Doug Stone - Take A Letter, Maria Lyrics
Take a letter, Maria
Last night as I got home about a half past ten
There was the woman I thought I knew
In the arms of another man
Let me tell you what happened then
I packed some clothes and I walked out
And I ain't going back again
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home, gonna start a new life
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer, gotta start a new life
You've been many things but most of all a good secretary to me
Was I wrong to work nights to try to build a good life
All work and no play has just cost me a wife
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home, gonna start a new life
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer, gotta start a new life
When a man loves a woman it's hard to understand
That she would find more pleasure in the arms of another man
I never really noticed how sweet you are to me
It just so happens I'm free tonight
Would you like to have dinner with me
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home, gonna start a new life
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer, gotta start a new life
So take a letter, Maria, address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer, gotta start a new life

Still listening 10-08-2019
the "Teles sound great in the intro, but they don't replace the real trumpets or trombones used in the "hook" of the R.B.Greaves original, nice job all the same though!
Great job Doug. I wish you were still making records

Maybe you can dupe this one with the version by R.B. Greaves like you duped "What I'd say".
Great version of an old classic! NICE!
nice video best I've seen thx !!
On this day in 1970 {January 31st} R. B. Greaves performed "Take A Lette Maria" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'
Three months earlier on October 18th, 1969 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 1 week} & spent 15 weeks on the Top 100
It reached #10 on the R&B chart
Two covered versions have charted, both on the Country chart; Anthony Armstrong Jones {#8 in 1970} and Doug Stone {#34 in 1999}
RIP Mr. Greaves {1943 - 2012} & Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
I'm amazed how at 1:08-1:20 he asks and answers his own question.
I like your version. Well done!!
