Doug Stone - Addicted To A Dollar Lyrics

Eighty hours a week, that's what I call work
And this black under my blue collar is his best pay dirt
They work me hard from dawn to dusk
Doin' double time puttin' out sweat for a filthy buck

F.I.C.A. and the state
They make my paycheck look like a big mistake
Tax man takes his before I see a cent
And what they don't get, I've already spent

I'm addicted to a dollar, that ain't worth a dime
I pick up my paycheck and pass it on down the line
The more money that I'm making, the less I can call mine
Well, I'm addicted to a dollar, that ain't worth a dime

Got me more payments than I've got checks
Ten more to go on this car, it's a wreck
Landlord's at my door, it's a life of hard knocks
When all I really want is my piece of the rock

Don't believe this mirage called the Republicans who care about the working class people! I have watched politics now, since 1976 when I voted for Jimmy Carter to be President. We can't allow politicians to sway us based upon legislating moral values and all these shallow things they use to get elected. The economy in the United States is a farce, we have a one month budget right now that expires around the 21st of December that followed a seven week budget that expired on November 21. We should have not gave Ukraine 1.5 billion dollars in the first place since 2014, that is the issue no one is talking about. We are so deep in debt! Why would we tell our soldiers at VA clinics who are suffering from depression, well you have to wait for an appointment to see a psychological person, when that $1.5 billion given to Ukraine since 2014 could have funded 24/7 hot lines for veterans to call counselors when they felt depressed, and if it was so serious per the listener, they keep them on the line to get an ambulance to a local hospital and make sure a doctor sees them within a few hours. Yes that $1.5 billion in defense aid could have paid for this and many more projects in the United States. President Trump and Sonny Perdue are going to make drastic cuts to the SNAP food assistance program, which they have been reported to be cutting five billion from food stamps over the next five years. Sonny Perdue from Georgia is the Secretary of Agriculture which is over food stamps. Don't be fooled by this New York so-called bilionaire snake oil salesman because that is all he is a fraud. I believe in the Second Amendment and the United Supreme Court will uphold the Second Amendment. We have got to quit fighting these unnecessary wars, funding other countries weapons purchases and mind our own damn business for a change. We need to change states in this country that are right to work to union states, as we can't keep on declining in our purchasing power! I have watched the Middle Income Class all but disappear, since the Republican Party took over politics from about 1980 forward. They are no more Christian than some good God fearing Democrats, so quit buying the bs. This economy is not good, just because Trump runs his mouth every time DOL reports come out and says everyone is working is not the way it is, people are working part time jobs, too many are! These are the same DOL numbers that Trump said weren't true when Obama was President. We can't afford to go on like this, wake up people. We need strong candidates to run as Democrats right now and Independents to clean these Republicans out of Washington DC in 2020 because they are not the part of President Abraham Lincoln by a long shot. They are nothing but liars and thieves!

Love this song. Wish people really knew how our currency works and how the federal reserve owns us all. Modern slaves aren't in chains there in debt. Every pay check I get 60% goes into real money gold and silver. I am sitting pretty nice have fun with that federal debt note sheeple it's all about to go down the crapper!

I regret that when I met Doug Stone in 2009 at a little show, and I ask him to sing "Addicted to a Dollar" that I didn't get him to autograph a dollar bill for me on the pyramid back said that has the latin words for "New World Order" on it. Eventually, he and his band did perform the song, then I got up and left. I didn't care for Whiskey River in Macon, Georgia, anymore, at that time. I hadn't been there since 1994, and the crowd was not my cup of tea, at all. I think it is closed down now. A bunch of liberals were there, women slow dancing together, crap like that. I am not into that scene, at all!

Thought I'd listen to some good ole music, and this song reminded me of my daughter who is working so hard, but not getting anywhere! And if she was making $15.00 in 2009, that would be great, lol. :-)

As soon as he finally played "Addicted to a Dollar," I left. I do not care for the scene at Whiskey River, not my crowd, at all. Times have changed!

  20. L.... P....

I first saw Doug Stone at a chili cookoff here in Georgia back in 1992, and saw him again in Macon, GA a couple of years ago at Whiskey River. I requested that he play this song, and I told him when I saw him play in Georgia. Doug pondered a moment and said that was a long time ago, and then he said "yeah this song should be our national anthem."

Chuck Dixon it's because he looks like David Hasselhoff in Knight Rider. You must be young lol

  22. J.... M....

One of the songwriters was Ray Maddox. I believe he is the son of the late T.W. Maddox of Oak Grove, Alabama (near Hueytown), a guitarist who was a good friend of my uncle Jerry Moore (see Jerry Moore & Friends: Walking the Floor Over You).

  23. D.... W....

You're right, James, it IS great! Doug hit #4 in Billboard, 5-7-94. God bless!
