Doris Day - You Stepped Out Of A Dream Lyrics

You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful to be what you seem!
Could there be eyes like yours,
Could there be lips like yours
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?
You stepped out of a cloud
I want to take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart out of a dream,
Safe in my heart

You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful to be what you seem!
Could there be eyes like yours,
Could there be lips like yours
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?
You stepped out of a cloud
I want to take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart out of a dream,
Safe in my heart

Doris Day You Stepped Out Of A Dream Comments

    2019 October, thanks!

  2. A.... B....

Sounds so good, Doris, the world misses you, your true followers who knew what music and words meant. Not the garbage that is out here today! You'll be 97 soon. Special mightiness to you dear lady!

  3. W.... L....

One of my favorite songs sung by the one and only Doris Day

  4. t.... ....

As straight-ahead a reading of this harmonically-complex tune as I can imagine.
(If if I study this closely enough, I may actually learn it.)

  5. E.... J....

Thank you so much Doris Day

  6. E.... J....

You are beautiful Doris Day, The love of my life is from Zurich, Switzerland and she to me "Stepped Out of a Dream" and thank you Doris for such a beautiful song

  7. E.... J....

This time i have to say i love Doris Day

  8. E.... J....

again that was beautiful Doris Day

  9. E.... J....

Oh yeah happy birthday that was beautiful Doris Day

  10. A.... ....

It's nice to hear a lady singing this song. Thanks for posting!

  11. J.... B....

Just saw 'Love Me or Leave me' the other night, starring who else?! Cagney was great, but Doris stole every scene. The vocal sequences with just the dear lady and piano were stunningly remarkable. Arranged by Percy Faith, 'I'll Never Stop Loving You' and 'It All Depends On you' simply brought tears…such talent and poise unequaled in any other human being. I guess you can tell I'm a fan! Thanks for the posting. If you can forward my comments to her, that would be great!

Doris should have won an Oscar for her performance in "Love Me or Leave Me".  A lot of great actresses have been overlooked by the Academy over the years and she's one of them (biggest robbery of an Oscar of all time was Judy Garland not winning for, "A Star Is Born").

    J.... B....

Of course! But you probably know how the committee votes is totally political and often has nothing to do with performance - or talent. However, just look at the box office for Doris. She was the #1 draw in the 50's and '60's. That alone should indicate her total super-stardom. Movie viewers voted with their pocket books - the Oscar is awarded by a precious few - compared to tens of millions of fans that know the real truth!

  12. D.... ....

I think a lot of people do .... she's still so popular with so many people ! She's an amazing lady !

  13. D.... ....

She sure can make a song sound wonderful .. no doubt about that !
    So happy you enjoyed !!

  14. D.... ....

You're right ... she did some circus animal scenes in Jumbo .. I love the clown disguise ! Hard to tell its her !

  15. w.... ....

I was going to say that Doris isn't a circus animal trainer--but I'd be wrong---she did that in her movie "Jumbo"

  16. w.... ....

this is where diction is sexy and romantic, folks--its caressing each word--Sinatra did it--and so did Doris....

  17. D.... ....

    I like that .... so true !!

  18. G.... 1....

If Doris be the food of love?
    play on.

  19. D.... ....

I think she has one of the best voices ever ! So happy you enjoyed !!

  20. Q.... ....

Fabulous voice. Love the echo...it just enhances the beauty

  21. D.... ....

@dedeurs This is a beautiful arrangement and Doris gives us a lovely version. I agree with you.... her songs are always wonderful to hear. Yes .. that is a great website. A lot of good info on Doris and beautiful photo's. I used to belong to the forum associated with the website. There used to be quite a number of photo's I've collected posted. Don't know if they're still there. Its definitely a fun place to get lost in !!

  22. v.... ....

I always thought Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66's was THE version. This is fabulous, fantastic arrangement, too. No matter what she sung, her voice is always a delight to hear. Indeed, what a talent.

@Dayniacc4342, you can see stunning photo's from 'Romance on the High Seas on dorisday.net. Google 'the films of doris day'. It also features extensive synopsys and reviews of all her movies. An excellent site., I got lost in it for hours.

  23. D.... ....

@Dday21Mom I need to add the notes ... it was recorded on May 5, 1961. Yes .. I did put the pictures in chronological order... somewhat .. they weren't all just in the right order. She was definitely beautiful at any age .. and still is I'm sure !! I 'm really happy you enjoyed ... thank you !! =)

  24. D.... ....

@MMfan1997 Happy you enjoyed. I would follow you on twitter but I'm not on twitter ..... sorry. Hope you get more followers. =)

  25. D.... ....

@bbcisrubbish Thats her first film ... and one of my favorites ! She was a natural !
Happy you're enjoying her great music !!

  26. b.... ....

@Dayniac4324. Thanks for the thanks. I think you will notice a distinct beguine rhythm in the accompaniment.
It starts around 0.36. Any way I still enjoyed it. Thanks for all the postings of Doris. There is one of her films called "Romance on the High Seas", with Jack Carson. I wish some one would upload that.

  27. D.... ....

@bbcisrubbish This is a lovely song ... but it doesn't seem latin to me. She has a latin album - Latin for Lovers. Good album. Anyway ... I'm happy you enjoyed !

  28. b.... ....

What a combination, Doris and a superb orchestration in the Latin mode.

  29. D.... ....

@markmartin1959 She is fabulous .. I will agree. I thinks she will be for all time ! She seems to retain her popularity and interest in her seems to never end. True talent.

  45. D.... ....

Doris is so multi-talented - sing, dance, drama, comedy, movies, tv, records, radio, big bands- and then she look at her work for animals ! WOW - what a lady !
I started listening to her records when I was about 10 - and I think I wanted to be like her. I think lots of young girls did !!
She is one of the best singers - especially ballads.

Thank you - glad you enjoyed !!

  47. S.... U....

Doris is the greatest. Thank you for posting.

  48. D.... ....

Yes - dear Marty did leave her with nothing. I guess it's never been proven he knew and was a party to the swindle - but I find it hard to believe he didn't know what was going on. But - as Doris always does - she bounced back and has had a wonderful life in Carmel working for animal rights. I guess she's lucky Marty signed her for the tv show - she made back some of her money !

  49. D.... ....

And she was so right !! Thank goodness for us !

  50. D.... ....

Me too --- glad you enjoyed it !!

  51. U.... ....
