Doris Day - Stars Fell On Alabama Lyrics

We lived our little drama,
We kissed and a feel a while
And stars fell on Alabama that night.

I can't forget the glamour
Your eyes held onto the light
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I never planned in my imagination
A situation so heavenly
Our very land that no one else could enter
And in the center just you and me

Hear my heart beat like a hammer
My arms wrapped around you tight
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I never planned in my imagination
A situation so heavenly
Our very land that no one else could enter
And in the center just you and me

Hear my heart beat like a hammer
My arms wound around you tight
A star fell on Alabama last night

Yes we lived our little drama
We kissed on the dune so what
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

  3. J.... ....

Was at an open mic last night and a guy sang this song...I'm so glad Doris has a version of it! I simply love her voice. So smooth, so pure. The tonal quality... Beautiful, beautiful. Discovered her maybe 10 years ago.. As far as voices go, I truly believe she's one of the best. Right at the top with Ella. Thanks for the upload!

  4. J.... P....

Doris Day one of the truly great voices of my past ...I could listen to her for hours

  7. K.... B....

There is NOTHING today that comes close to this. Heaven baby, heaven!

  8. L.... W....

I remember this from my high school days. A few years later I was in Alabama a riding in a convertible at night. I swore you could pluck a star right out of the sky there, and, I thought, well Doris Day, you nailed it! Loved it since.

  9. J.... h....

MAGNIFICENT!! SHE IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!

  10. M.... C....

Doris will always symbolize the all American Girl, in her smile, voice and music.  One look at that face and those hard faces of today and it tells a story of the times.

  11. c.... ....

    real talent. real music.

  12. G.... P....

Love all of Doris's songs and movies.

  13. T.... W....

Usually Doris is happily bubbly, but here she is sultry, and dare I say it ? ...Sexy !!!

    T.... W....

After she went to Hollywood and was playing goody-two-shoes roles in movies, one of the sidemen from her days with the big swing bands said: "We knew Doris Day before she was a virgin."

    T.... W....

That was Oscar Levant, the pianist in her first movie Romance On The High Seas.

  14. b.... v....

fabulosamente embaucadora voz llena de sabiduría tonal.......

  15. U.... S....

    Just love Doris Day....

  16. S.... S....

    şahane...

  17. P.... R....

Well, I'm so sorry to say that sort of thing because I like Doris, so nice & easy, but I prefer, it is inevitable to compare, Billie, nice & rough!

  18. M.... K....

I think I've found a new obsession. Doris Days, voice.

  19. M.... S....

as usual, always bang in tune. Quite rare actually. Well done Doris !!

    M.... S....

@Michael Stewart Quite popular here in the Fl panhandle and southern Al. Sort of replaced Dixie as the Alabama state song, and no one and I mean no one sings it better than Ms Doris.

    M.... S....

+Michael Stewart From those years when there were REAL singers.

    M.... S....

+Bill Tate To name a few: Kay Starr, Joni James, Kitty Kallen, Vikki Carr, Frankie Laine, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin.

  20. D.... ....

I love Doris' version of this beautiful song. So happy you enjoyed !!

  21. T.... B....

I don't know what to say. A beautiful glamorous song.

  22. D.... ....

She said in her autobiography that while she was convalesing after the train/car wreck that ended her dancing career at that time.... that she started listening to the radio and singing along with Ella. Ella was definitely a big influence on Doris. And she also credits her voice coach, Grace Raine. She said Grace told her to sing as if she were singing to just one person. I love her songs where she has that intimate, singing just to you feeling. She does it so well !

    D.... ....

Doris was a patient of mine in the mid 50s and she always spoke reverently of Ella "Fitz."

  23. D.... ....

She certainly is amazing ! I think there was a period where she was sort of put down by the in group in Hollywood during the 60s. I think many of those people have changed their tune. One of the most publicly to say so was film critic Roger Ebert - who basically said he was wrong ! She's been receiving a lot of recognition in the last few years. Lifetime Grammy & LA Film Critics Award are a couple. She is an amazing lady !!

  24. I.... ....

She has always been respected for her vocals. She was a superstar throughout the whole decade of the 1950s. Her favorite singer (if I remember correctly) was Ella Fitzgerald. Listen to Ella, then listen to Doris, and you'll hear the influence.

  25. T.... C....

Doris Day? Are you kidding me? No, we're not. Her image actually got in the way of her artistry. Here's proof.........

  26. D.... ....

She definitely has the voice for a dreamy song like this. Happy you enjoyed !!!

  27. D.... ....

I wonder the same thing. I read Considering Doris Day by Tom Santopietro. One idea he offers is - she made it look so easy that people think it is, when in reality its far from easy. She has immense talent and is one of the best at interpreting a lyric. I think she's getting more recognition in recent years - but not what she deserves. She's one of the best !

    D.... ....

    Dayniac4324 buff

  28. M.... ....

I wonder why Doris isn't more respected today for her vocals. She's got a voice like melting buttter, so smooth and creamy. No one like her.....EVER. absolutely a one of a kind singer. She got better and better through her career. I just can't get over what she can do with her voice. amazing...absolutely amazing tallent

  29. r.... ....

Paper towns... Margo and Q :)

  30. D.... ....

@Solorider551 I know what you mean. I started listening to my mom's Day albums when I was 10 .... but then being a teenager in the late 60s early 70s listened to a lot of hard rock. But, I've always had this side that loves the 40s and 50s music....and its full blown now !! So happy you've enjoyed ... she has so many great songs !!

  31. S.... ....

I was raised during the rock era, listening to the Stones, zeppelin, hendrix and all those guys... But one night my Dad was listening to this song of doris, and it was like booom !!! I just fell in love with her songs. Thanks for posting !

  32. D.... ....

@honeybee7700 It is a beautiful song from Doris .... happy you enjoyed !!

  33. D.... ....

@333marian1 You're so right ... a truely classy lady ! Even in her not so good movies.. Doris was alwasy top notch .. she gave her all. She's still sounding good. I've heard a few recent interviews and she sounds wonderful !! She overcame some terrible things and has sure been an inspiration to many. Thank you .....really happy you enjoyed this one ... its one of my favorites !!

  34. D.... ....

@char4him99 It definitely is a dreamy version from Doris !! So happy you enjoyed !

  35. C.... D....

    Totally dreamy...

  36. D.... ....

@gv4161960 It would be hard for me to decide on my favorite song from Doris ... this is certainly one of them. She gives us perfectly dreamy version. I think a couple of my all time fave's are - They Say It's Wonderful and People Will Say We're In Love. She really does the best interpretation I've heard. Thank you ... really happy you're enjoying Doris. She's the best !! =)

  37. g.... ....

This is by far my favorite song of hers...and I love most all of them!! Wish there were people like her around today!!

  38. D.... ....

@sevildrib What a great comment ! Yes ... great compensation ! I'd love to have 800 more songs from Doris .. that would be heavenly. Thank you ... so happy you enjoyed this lovely song from Doris.

  39. s.... ....

If there is a gap in the heavens up top of "The Heart of Dixie" then this song and this recording are good compensation>>>Thanks Doris: I'd give a galaxy to have you back singing like this again>>>

  40. D.... ....

@coywin Really ? Wow ... thats very interesting ! Happy you enjoyed this one from Doris !!

  41. L.... W....

Oh yeah, stars really do fall on Alabama as I found out in Sept. 1954. Great Doris.

  42. J.... ....

Dayniac will you put up "Funny" and "Sorry" by DD?

    Love SFOA tho

  43. D.... ....

@pamurchu This is such a great song .... and Doris gives us a lovely version. I bet you had fun in the play ! So happy you enjoyed !

  44. D.... ....

@TheStevecov Have to agree with you ... this is one of my all time favorites. Her Day by Night album is wonderful. I listen to her every day going to and from work ... I think I'd rather be listening while relaxing like you do ! lo But really - any time is a good time to listen to Doris !! Thanks !

  45. D.... ....

@tomtomtom692 Another of my favorites... to me, Doris was at her peak at this time. Her albums Day by Day and Day by Night were great. I say that - then think about earlier and later recordings that I like just as much ... hmmm ... maybe she had several peaks ! lol Anyway - happy you enjoyed ... thank you !

  46. D.... ....

@cathiemac One of my favorite albums too. You've got me beat. I've been a fan for around 47 years - since I started listening to the 2 Doris albums my mom had - Show Time and Duet. Both terrific albums too. Terry was so right ! She does and she brings a smile to me everytime I listen to her. Thanks.... really happy you enjoyed !

  47. D.... ....

@perfecttense HAHAHAHA .... yes ... I think we should all be thankful that she was forced to sing... just wish it wouldn't have been so painful for her ! This is one of my faves... so happy you enjoyed it too !

  48. D.... ....

@followthefleet1 Have to agree with you - I think Doris does a great interpretation of this song. She was definitely a serious recording artist with around 1100 songs. I think she often is over looked because after her band days and early radio show - she didn't sing in public. She was a recording star. But - I think she is one of the best at interpreting a song. And one of the best ballad singers ever. Thanks for your great comment .. happy you enjoyed !

  49. f.... ....

I think this to be the definitive version of this song. I'll accept other nominations...but to me, this is the best, with Paul Weston and his orchestra. Day captures lots of nuance and emotion intrinsic to the music. Sunny Doris Day was a serious recording artist....and a good actress too.

  50. D.... ....

I love Ella Fitzgerald. I have some records that I truely love. Enjoy her most when she's not doing her scat - as great as that is. Thanks and cheers !!

  51. m.... ....

You should check out the version with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, another version I thoroughly enjoy.

Man, this song is amazing to have a glass of scotch too.

  52. D.... ....

I really love her version of this great song. She has such a wonderful voice ! So happy you enjoyed it too !! Thanks !

  53. D.... ....

Well - songs like this from Doris sure do comfort me too ! Happy you enjoyed !!

  54. D.... ....

I'm with you ....love these romantic songs - and Doris is the best at singing them. I don't want anything else ... just these beautiful songs !! Thank you ....enjoyed your comment !

  55. m.... ....

What's wrong kids now a days? This music is to die for, so beautiful and full of real emotion. What else could you want?

  56. D.... ....

So happy this brought you some happy memories. I'm with you -- miss those days !

  57. D.... ....

This is one of my all time favorite DD tunes. Just love it !! Thanks - happy you enjoyed them.

  58. x.... ....

We just listened to "No Moon at All", and then this tune. Wonderful recordings, and so romantic. Truly great. Thanks.

  59. D.... ....

Have to agree with you - one of my fav's.
This is such a great album - all the songs are wonderful. She's really amazing.
    Thanks !!

  60. M.... S....

Heaven on earth...That´s what I say of her rendition.

  61. D.... ....

You're right - she is absolutely terrific.
She has so much music - recorded over
600 songs - so there are a lot for you to discover !! I'm so happy you enjoyed this great DD song -- Thanks !!

  62. .... ....

I can't believe I never knew of Doris Day!!!! She is wonderful....

  63. D.... ....

Well - I'm sorry coywin - but I do have to disagree with you. It was the other Doris Day that appeared in a Roy Rogers movie. Not this one. You can check it out on imdb. Look up Saga of Death Valley 1939 - this Doris would have been 15. This Doris made her 1st movie in 1949-Romance on the High Seas.
The Doris Day in that movie was born in 1910 and died in 1998. You can also find pictures of her on the web. Definitely a different Doris.

  64. D.... ....

I agree with you rockinrollsoul ! I do listen to her a lot - like every day !! Glad you enjoyed !

  65. L.... W....

This is terrific. By the way, it was Doris
herself who pointed out the fact that she
had appeared itn Roy Rogers film after I
told her that when I was a kid, I wanted to
marry him when I grew up. Met him as an
adult and wondered what my attraction to
him was all about. Both he and Dale
Evans were a lovely couple and that was
    it.

  66. M.... H....

    what a beautiful voice.
i could listen to her sing forever.

  67. L.... W....

I never imagined I could like Alabama until I
arrived there and took that ride. I never
could imagine a sky so full of stars that you
felt like plucking them out of the air. Not a
bad place at all. Thank you again.

  68. D.... ....

Wow - I bet that was something !
Thank you - glad it brought you a
    happy memory.

  69. L.... W....

Loved it when I was young and love it today.
Actually rode in a converible when stars really did fall on Alabama. She has it right
    to a tee. Thank you.

  70. D.... ....
