Doris Day - Stardust Lyrics

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why
I spend the lonely nights
Dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss, an inspiration
Oh, but that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
Where stars are bright
You are in my arms
A nightingale sings its fairy tale
Of paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it always will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

Doris Day had every bit of beauty, sex appeal and talent as any other actress in Hollywood in Hollywood's hey day, but she never got that kind of credit. Studios always considered her "the girl next door" but she was beautiful, had a knockout figure, a velvet and clear voice, could dance and act. She could not only act, but in any genre. She could be sexy, dramatic and comedic. Why she never got the billing she deserved, I'll never know.

    J.... B....

She was the most popular female actor for a number of years and the most popular actor, male or female, for several years. I think she did get the credit she deserved, except that she was underrated as a singer because of some of the roles that she played and her public image as a cutie.

I agree, Ella and Sarah play them role and are great making their own, but when you look for a version to inspire you from the base, always back to voice of Doris...absolutely perfect
