I saw this as a teen ager and I wanted to be her...in the movies and sing my heart out!! She did this so well, Anything she did was perfect. But, this movie stands out to me because it made such an impression on me

This reminds me so much of Annie Get Your Gun in many ways. Considering it was such a bit hit which was released just 3 years ago, maybe it was not a coincidence. But I have to admit that Doris hold her own in this sequence.

How marvellous that Doris puts so much energy and charm into her film roles. This routine was flawless despite its undoubted difficulties. So athletic and seamless. Nobody comes near her commitment. Maybe gone but certainly not forgotten. RIP dear Doris.

She is incomparable as Calamity and i can't think of anyone who could get anywhere near her level. As a direct contrast she was magnificent in "Love Me or Leave Me" opposite the great James Cagney.

I watched this when I was 9, I was never a sponge bob kid, I watched things like this and 7 brides for seven brothers. I renember when I was maybe 10 or 11, I tried to do that dance she did with salt, and I poured salt all over the floor, 😅, I'm 14 now, and suffer from major anxiety and depression, and still love to watch this when I'm down or sick. R.I.P Doris, never will be forgotten!

She retired in Carmel, CA where she bought a cute hotel only to allow pets in as other hotels in town were not allowing pets.
She represented the best in our American culture.

In an interview, she said this film Calamity Jane, was her all time favorite. She was a tomboy at heart and wanted to do this part cause it involved jumping and climbing and everything a child wants to do. Now she is asleep in death, Calamity outlived Adelaide Adams by 66 years.

Apparently Doris Day was involved in a serious accident and they didn't think she would perform again. This accident I believe happened before the making of calamity jane.
