I discovered this track only a week ago, on BBC Radio 3. What a cool song, and so well delivered by an artist I'd only associated with cowboy tunes. A real revelation, and so my h classier than the Sinatra version and its heavy orchestration.

【脚注1】’pass～around’ は「順に回す」とか「広める」とかニュアンスの異なる訳語が幾つかあるようだが、ここでは後者のほうを採用ー「キスしたことを周囲に知らせる→人前だろうが堂々とキスをする」と解釈し、上記の訳とした。また ”You’ll find my reason is rogic’lly sound” の部分は、直訳すると「あなたは私の(挙げる)理由が論理的に筋が通っていると思うだろう」ってなカンジだが、よりこなれたフレーズに差し換えてある。

【脚注2】タイトルにもなっている ’A hundred years from today’ は正確には「今日から百年後」だが、日本語にした時点でよりナチュラルに響いてくる「今から～」とした。

【脚注3】「ペントハウス」とは、高層建築などの最上階に設けられた見晴らしのよい豪華な部屋のこと。ちなみにこの部分正確には「なぜ女王様に似つかわしいようなペントハウスが必要なの？」だが、少々言い回しを変えてみた。


【脚注4】ブリッジ冒頭の ”make love the thing” のところは、いわゆる《SVOC》型のセンテンスが命令形になったものなので、’love’ = ’the thing’ ということになる。なお ’the thing’ は(ナットの「Love Is The Thing」と同様)「大事なもの、大切なもの」といった意味合い。

Yes - she never got into any of that. I guess we could all learn a thing or two from her. Look for the good in a situation. Sometimes hard to do but probably a healthy way to live. She's a special lady !

yt is messed up .. couldn't finish my comment ! No - her abusive first husband killed himself. But - true to who Doris is ... she said she wouldn't have had her wonderful son if she hadn't married him. She lived through some rough stuff in her life !

She's definitely no fool ... I think out of respect for her friend she made no comments about his personal life. She simply said it was none of her business.

i have no idea. Just before he passed away he taped the first show of her CBN pet series. She taped an opening for the show talking about him. It was very sad and touching. She has said that she didn't and that it was none of her business anyway. That he was a wonderful person, a great friend and she loved him. So .. as I said - I have no idea.
