Doobie Brothers, The - Echoes Of Love Lyrics

I hear your voice everywhere
It's echoes of love
Making me look back over my shoulder
Echoes of love are started all over
Echoes of love
Keeps on haunting
I'm out of control
Keeps on burning
Echoes of love are out of control
Bringing back love I used to hold

Darlin', since you went away
Think about you every day
So many memories
Got to get the best of me

Recalling the times
I used to hold you
I just wouldn't do
What I was supposed to
I've done things
I'd like to undo
Now darlin' it's you
I'd like to run to

Echoes of love
Keeps on haunting
I'm out of control
Keeps on burning
Echoes of love are out of control
Bringing back love I used to hold

Echoes of love
Echoes of love
Love, echoes of love
Keeps on haunting
Echoes of love, echoes of love
Keeps on burning
Echoes of love

  19. G.... C....

    Their Best Album

    G.... C....

I think so but I don’t believe the band agrees.

  20. M.... M....

I think Pat wrote this beauty? Thank you.....

    M.... M....

He's singing lead too. Pat's got a Southern heart and now Mike lives in the South!

  21. P.... C....

    I hate taxes.

  22. b.... ....

Great tune, great album. I used to play this through an Infinity Qa speaker system and WOW did it sound nice!.

  23. S.... P....

    m.... G....

    Miks G fuck the 70s

  27. A.... H....

An absolute gem! Love the way it was produced and the harmonies. One of my favorites.

    My favorite Doobie song

  33. B.... T....

This is an awesome classic! I have not heard it for a few years. It was sooooooo good to hear it again!

  34. T.... B....

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. This album was a change from the original band. Can't say that I thought it was a great idea to get rid of Tom Johnston, but I love this song

  35. h.... ....

okay this is definitely Yacht Rock! smooth sounding fluff!

  36. P.... L....

One of the most beautiful songs from a great album full of pathos and sadness for me personally. Forget the Michael vs. Tom bullshit. "Once a Doobie, always a Doobie.", as one poster said. Takes me back in an instant to USF and me lost in The City.

  37. W.... P....

This song (and this album) always remind me of a great period in San Francisco, and coastal California, the mid-late 70's That's the "pyramid" building in S.F. that had just been built. A relaxed, kick back period of funk and freedom. No hedge fund tech crazies, AIDS, Reagan, any of it. Just relax and yes, smoke a doobie...

  38. D.... B....

Some of the most beautiful vocals EVER!!

  39. Y.... ....

Shazammed this one at Lowe's and it's been on repeat ever since. I'm an early 70's baby and love the Doobie Brothers, but this one slipped my mind somehow.

  40. J.... O....

heard this song at home depot a few hours ago, hadnt heard it in 30 years, now i cant stop playing it!...its just so good....

  41. t.... ....

Covered by the Pointer Sisters, so I put both versions in my PS playlist. Thanks for the upload!

    t.... ....

    trfesok 👍🏼

  42. B.... C....

9 people dislike this only like the Doobie Brothers from 1971 to 1975 with Tom Johnston. Only way to explain the hate. The 1976 to 1980 Doobie Brothers era was a lot more than just Michael McDonald. Patrick Simmons, Tiran Porter and Others from the 1971 to 1975 era were still with the Band.

  43. d.... e....

just love the Doobies so many 70s memories

  44. p.... ....

9th Wonder sampled from 1:45 to 1:58 of this song! shout out Julian Mitchell on youtube for finding it.

  45. J.... L....

Don't know how many Patrick tracks the Doobies did, but the guy is great.

    J.... L....

    The lead is McDonald.

    J.... L....

Simmons is lead on this one.

  46. D.... ....

this is love like a cruise down pacific coast highway in real life or GTA 5:) should have had all of there stuff in gta 5...

  47. R.... R....

God, I do love this song. So beautiful.

    R.... R....

Brings a tear to me memory. But who’s the singar? Michael McDonald?

    R.... R....

Mekratrig I think it's Patrick simmons

    R.... R....

i was 8 my sister took me to see them on this tour chicago internation amphtheathre....pablo cruise opened ,,, magic

  48. a.... h....

i discovered this on an old vinyl and i literally cannot listen to it in any other format. it feels so odd and peculiar listening via streaming. i could listen to ANY other song as an mp3 or on a compact disc etcetera, but not this one. im glad this is so, though, because it feels all the more special. also one of my first vinyl experiences. lovely.

    a.... h....

it's like.. i genuinely wasn't meant to hear or find this song in any other way. it feels surreal.

  49. D.... R....

Just a great song of the one that got away

  50. C.... S....

I post a lot of music to Facebook.......kinda funny, I absolutely love this song...and a lot of people have never heard this song !!!

    C.... S....

Cause At the time It was'nt one of their hit song's , they would play it once in awhile , but mainly they played their top hit's at the time.

  51. a.... ....

Love this song! When I was selling Audis this was the main song I had burned to CD to demo how awesome the sound system is, the blending of the instruments and vocals is just superb and a good sound system will evidence this.

  52. R.... L....

    a little-known classic gem . . .

  53. D.... H....

Wish Pat Simmons had done more leads.Great song!

    D.... H....

He didn't do this lead it's McDonald.

    D.... H....

455Transam Michael McDonald sung backup. Pat Simmons sang lead vocals on this song.

    D.... H....

He does South City Midnight Lady so beautifully. ❤️🎸💙

    D.... H....

Dependin' On You and Wheel of Fortune are two of the Doobie's best (IMO): sung by Simmons.

  54. J.... M....

...... sea otters should always be together

  55. N.... ....

Face it, in the Doobie's collection - or anyone's collection - this is one of the most exquisitely beautiful songs ever produced. It would be very hard to find another that's even close.

    R.... M....

    absolutely the finest

    R.... M....

    absolutely the finest

    R.... M....

I am in total agreement. They write music like this anymore. Flawless on stage. They were my first concert at 15 years old. MSA, (Market Square Arena), Indianapolis, Indiana. Eddie Money was the opening act. That was a great night. Saw the concert with my big brother. A cherished memory.

    R.... M....

My go to song when I need love.

  60. C.... H....

FYI, "Echoes of Love" was one of the songs The Doobie Brothers played on the ABC sitcom What's Happening!! (Season 2, Episodes 16 & 17 - "Doobie or Not Doobie, Parts 1 and 2. Airdates: January 28 and February 4, 1978, to be exact).

    C.... H....

I be Roger Thomas. Which Doobie you be?

    C.... H....

+Lawrence Sherrod I watched that episode the other day. I can't believe how dumb and gullible Rerun was.

    C.... H....

    That episode sent me here.

    C.... H....

Vic Morrow Forever In My Heart Rerun had Twinkie filling between his ears.

    C.... H....

    Hey Hey Hey

  61. c.... ....

"Ted, if I ever catch you producing anything but smooth music, I'll quit singing forever!"

    c.... ....

    No worries there, my friend!

  62. J.... R....

this album was so over produced they knew there was no way they could play it live ---- even so its one of my favorites --what 38 years now???

    J.... R....

John Reynolds -not sure why you would say that...they actually played it LIVE multiple times...

  63. B.... ....

The most Morown-ish of the Doobie Brothers' songs.

    B.... ....

Since you can't spell, whatever you were trying to say had to be foolish.

  64. G.... M....

Draggin main street.  8 Track tapes.

  65. t.... m....

how'd these guys turn out so many awesome hits other than just talent? collaboration, kept changing, kept writing... and maybe smokin' their shit. dunno

  66. 3.... ....

The 1970' were the echoes of the 1960's.  I know, I was there.

    3.... ....

+3675Chandra, goodness, that's one of the most fantastic statements I have ever heard in my life! I think of The Beatles for the 60s, but how did everything change so DRASTICALLY in just one decade? These Doobie fellows helped matters for the 70s. I guess that is one answer... Bill Haley must have flipped to see how far rock had gone after he served as a 50s pioneer!

    3.... ....

3675Chandra Perfectly said. Both eras were great. I'm a 70s girl but I love the 60s. The music, the styles, etc

  67. N.... L....

Can't get enough of this. Echoes of love!

  68. y.... ....

    青春の思い出。

  69. t.... ....

    Beautiful song

  70. S.... I....

What's Happening brought me here :)

  71. I.... ....

Wow. I've just about worn this album out. Every song is a gem on this one. This particular song as well as "Livin on the Fault Line" are my top spins on it.

  72. r.... ....

One of my favourite songs from  great album;  Forget all this "Michael vs Tom" debate; "Once a Doobie, always a Doobie!" as Michael says.

    r.... ....

    racketman2u skunked.

    r.... ....

Got to meet McDonald, he was sweet and very down to Earth.

  73. C.... L....

Great Band, Great song.Nothing like it anymore.

  74. R.... C....

my favorite of all the Doobies songs.  such a shame it didn't receive the popularity of their other hits.

  75. B.... M....

    just plain great

  76. b.... ....

This album...this harmony...and especially this song...PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!! Can never wear out this one - especially these immense voices - all PERRRRRFECT!!!

  77. s.... t....

In 1982, I us to cruise the highway in my '76 Camaro on Friday nights jamming to this. Damn..makes me wanna cry. Thanks for uploading.

  78. a.... ....

Ok, I will grant this song the best one from the MM era of the Doobie Brothers. I would listen to this song as a teen in So. Cal. Even better than the one that won the Grammy award. Otherwise, Tom Johnston is the soul of the Doobie Brothers and always will be

  79. J.... P....

One of the few good ones from the MM era,

  80. K.... f....

they were definitely way ahead of the time. I mean, this could be a superb no. 1 record in the 1980s.

  81. S.... C....

Thanks for posting this song. Long time DB fan, great memories...

  82. S.... I....

Dee: "I said we'd be QUIET!" the band stops playing.
