Donovan - Turquoise Lyrics
Your smile beams like sunlight on a gull's wing
And the leaves dance, and play after you
Take my hand and hold it as you would a flower
Take care with my heart, oh darling, she's made of glass
And the birds cease to sing when you rise
Ride easy your fairy stallion you have mounted
Take care how you fly, my precious, you might fall down
In the pastel skies the sunset I have wandered
With my eyes and ears and heart strained to the full
I know I tasted the essence in the few days
Take care who you love, my precious, he might not know

Donovan Turquoise Comments
Asked to name the first song to my head with a colour in the title. "Turquoise" I said. "Wha" the deprived masses replied
probably my fav Donovan song, but I'll never forgive him for putting that awful harmonica on it
mirandaz123 I agree! It’s too screechy for me lol
Wish there was a version without the screechy harmonica
I put this and Joan's cover in my Donovan playlist. Thanks for the upload!
Ear Rape

One day they thought, "why don't we leave our mark on the world", and then they made this .. ♡
“Take care who you love, my precious he might not now” that line was for Joan referring to Bobbie
The first purchase I made on iTunes, love this record. Still got the cassette Catch the Wind album.
This song goes straight to my heart and brings back memories of simpler times that I wish I could return to. But as Thomas Mann said " You can't go home again.
I've known this song since the '60s but only recently I realised it does not rhyme (or attempt to)...yet it is perfect!
Two chords! Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric is another great two chord song.
so many good songs are with two chords ...and don't look alike! It is the basis of progression, like two legs for us humans, to tell a story
Superb song :)
What a word smith
one of john lennons fave songs .. it was on his juke box
+Brian L Smith Donovan in early days was some of the first records i bought.. Dylan was at highway 61 by then.... loved them both.. Dylan seemed like a bit cocksure.. in hotel scenes,, Dont Look Back..but concert clips of dylan made up for it.. donovan was cool in the hotel room with .. to sing for you X
Wow! Didn't know that! Maybe he dug the harmonica on Hey Gyp, too?
early Donovan is the best of it all✌😎
better than Dylan.
I thought it was crummy the way Dylan outed Donovan in his movie.
So, sure, I may never get over it.
I think Psychedlia is more intresting than folk music, also.
Haha, and this song was written for Joan Baez (if you don't know, she is Dylan's ex) just like Visions Of Johanna by Bob Dylan. Donovan and Dylan were friends but rivals in music (And they were in love with the same woman, however Dylan was the one who got her :P)
Agreed. Seeing things as a competition only takes away from the enjoyment of both.
I never really understood the comparison between Donovan and Dylan. Their music is really nothing alike.
Always perceived Donovan as the dorkier version of Dylan. Was even reluctant about taking his stuff when my dad relinquished me his records. Boy was I wrong about this guy. Don't get me wrong I worship Dylan. But there are days when I'd choose Donovan, not just over anything, but ESPECIALLY over Dylan's scratchy ''you know what you are? A big noise!'' voice.
Beautiful ♡
I have always loved this song, it is so peaceful I didn't know it was about Joan Baez, but I love her version too. When it first came out I played it hundreds of times. Still love it 50 years later.
Me too!
