Donovan - Ferris Wheel Lyrics

This is my first time hearing this magical song, I just recently discover this wonderful poetic music artist. I always like Donovan’s clever ways of singing out the words. For instance, in Lalenya and Hurdy Gurdy Man, he purposely used vibrato to create the mood. As for this song, he dragged the words so long that it feels like you are spending time on a Ferris wheel, so slow and sluggish.

This is my favorite song, I got this record at a thrift shop for a dollar and listen to it front to back at least once a month. I dont like the comparison of donovan to dylan, donovan is donovan

This is absolutely my favorite Donovan tune.

something about this song is so beautiful, it doesnt make sense written out but when its sung it captures an emotion i cant describe

every time i listen to this song i hear it a different way. i always loved the idea of being on top of a ferris wheel because it only lasts for a moment

Wow I found the Gabor Szabo cover of this first and worshipped it for weeks, then went back to my old Donovan records and found myself captivated

One of the hidden little gems on that great album. The sitar and Romantic lyrics so redolent of the age.

What a nice bass line.

So glad I found this. I had the original album back in the 60s, but our rinky dink stereos couldn't fully demonstrate what great skull candy this is. Incredible production on this. To show how long-lasting this is: Sunshine Superman was sampled in the 90s for the song "RIde on into the next town."

+NameRequiredSoHere You're right about the fact that we missed out so much on what these songs had to offer when listened to on the crappy equipment we had back then. It's like a whole new song almost when we hear these gems today on good digital equipment with good headphones.

The moral if any my friend...FOLLOW THROUGH your dream to the end! PERFECT ALBUM which I had played 100 times back then in my lonely teenager room..Kept me sane!

I don't know y'all. The best sound quality I've ever heard comes out of my grandfather in law's 1960s turntable and speakers. Headphones reveal generally "hidden" parts of the music but those speakers capture it just as well whilst sounding much more rich and full.

This song is soo fucking genius. PEOPLE WAKE UP.

Well, due to contractual troubles in England, the album was indeed only released in 67, but the actual recordings happened in 65. Donovan himself was actually discovered by Dylan. Legend goes that he did some kind of audition for him in an 'Akward Hotel Room Session' (whatever that means). Donovan, one of the most underrated artists indeed. Peace, brother.

Not true. They did meet once in a hotel room, because Dylan had heard about him but musicians are not discovered in hotel rooms.

When I heared that the album "Sunshine Superman" was recorded in 1965, my respect for Donovan increased even further. He truly was a pioneer in psychedelic music.

His book is excellent...10 yrs old by now...
He did the whole Career from Catch the Wind to Hurdy Gurdy Man in 5 yrs...!!
