Donovan - Earth Sign Man Lyrics
I'm an earth sign, mama, I want you to understand
I'm an earth sign, mama, take me by the hand
I like my trees and books, I like my woman to cook
I'm an earth sign, mama, take a look.
You're an air sign, honey, you're around me all the time
You're like the mountain air flying through my hair
You're an air sign, honey, I do declare.
I'm an earth sign, mama, I want you to understand
I'm an earth sign, mama, take me by the hand
You're like a balmy breeze moving through my leaves
You're an air sign, baby, I do believe.

Donovan Earth Sign Man Comments
I have stories about this album, may be my favorite 35 minutes of music......
i was singing Intergalacative laxative, in my club a couple of weeks ago feeling very smug that I remembered all the words until I listened to this 2 days ago and realised I missed out 2 verses. but I agree with past comments this was indeed his best, as much as I liked all of his work.
Same here I had cosmic wheels in the 70s,roll a scooby, lie on the beach with my sony Walkman and buzz off.
The 80s was a terrible time for the old folk. But this is a superb Donovan album. Where Reed and Bowie failed Donovan achieved.
Yes I know it is 73 but come on, he got the 80s right
4:10 could be best Donovan song ever
This makes my mind travels back in time...
Great album

Even my favourite of all the fantastic albums you have done Donovan.I was there from the begining and since then you always have got a piece in my musical heart.
In the 70’s, on a Saturday afternoon, listening to this album blasting from bedroom window, while washing my car in the driveway. Getting car ready to go out that night. Unbelievable
What a surprise - in 2019
Und3rrRAted AsF
and i love the crackle of the vinyl!
A good friend of mine at the time insisted that I hear this, mainly for the Intergalactic Laxative, which she thought was right up my street. She was right - but for the whole album. I have just played Intergalactic to my 21 yr old son who is a 'rapper': he loved it! Donovan taught the picking style to Lennon and McCartney - he was a master.
One of his greatest album's the mix of band and orchestra amazing
He had some management difficulties after "Fairytale" in the mid 60's so he missed that crucial 6 to 12 months where reputations were made. In the 60's you couldn't afford to be absent for 10 minutes. There were some immaculate singles but the albums were deeply disappointing. This brief renaissance in the 70's was the least that he deserved but his time was gone.
Every song on this album is timeless and yes very underrated. I had the vinal pin tha 70s and was in a Van Club and named my Black Chevy Van after this album COSMIC WHEELS. Mr NATURAL WAS WALKING THROUGH SPACE SMOKING A PHATTIE. HAD JUST PASSIN THROUGH WRITTIN UNDER HIM... wish I could post a picture. Also learned how to play harmonica to this album
.
Grande álbum de Donovan, um presente para a história da música.
This is definitely an overlooked treasure! I couldn't understand at the time why it didn't get that much airplay.. but I played it til the cosmic grooves wore out...
I played the shit out of it too
Yes, this brings back some interesting times...thankyou.
je découvre, je me rappelle que cet album a eu un certain succès à l'époque.
I LIKE YOU brings back memories of a girl from southHampton uk i once meet and fell i love with on holiday in france early 2000.
I first heard this album when I was 12 at my Aunty Shelly funeral and I been hooked ever since bless your soul Aunty rip
'slow down world' song from donovan , apt then when first released and apt now , message of peace love and awareness
in "earth sign man" is Harrison on the solo guitar?
this is one reason not to lend your albums, if you see this you know who you are
please give it back
Always loved Donovan, takes me back many, many lifetimes.
Of all the great folk rockers from the Sixties...from Dylan on down to Phil Ochs...with only one exception NONE of them is as diverse as Donovan...The exception is Tim Buckley...Donovan had some extraordinary Jazzmen in his recording sessions...including Harold McNair...Unlike everything Donovan recorded prior to COSMIC WHEELS...Most of the songs on this album are new to me but they are ALL worth listening to...at least three more times after finishing this email
I went through a Buckley phase. Sometimes a tough listen though, especially the later stuff.
Every song on this album is timeless I had tha vinal in tha 70s was in a van club and named my van after this album. Wish I could post a picture
I like vinyl better than today's CDs. You can really hear each instrument and there is more depth and resonance. It just sounds more like you are listening to it live. Nice. Thank you. How I have missed this album. Wish I still had all my old vinyl.
Tripped to this in the early 80's!!!!!! Fucking awesome!
Beautiful "comeback" LP for Donovan, when some had thought he'd drifted away.
Even at 62, "I Like You" can still make me cry.
I have not heard this in about 30 years. Amazing how much I remember of it. Wonderful. Thank you for uploading. When will a CD be released??!!
Oh this takes me back!
Intergalactic Laxative....LOL!!!
THANKS for putting this on YT ,dude you rock !
good album got it on record,
Produced by John Paul Jones, Cozy Powell on drums
Mickie Most and Donovan produced this album. John Paul Jones was indeed involved with Sunshine Superman and some other of his 60s hits.
Heres all the people
why isn’t this on spotify :’^(
I like you is a great song, made the charts in the day, been my favorite Donovan song
Excellent
I have a dozen D records. When I picked this one up I thought he lost his marbles for sure. After reading all of these comments, I will have to give it another go, forty some years later.
FRIGGIN' A!!!!!! I got a radio station copy of this LP when it came out...and even with my usual diligent care...it wound up missing. I thought it was an exceptional effort...and I've rued the loss countless times. I can't tell you how much it means to me to be able to hear this fine album again. TX...nuggets. And TX Mr. Leitch.
You're very welcome.
At the time the hand written sign in my local record store said 'For your next trip take Donovan's Cosmic Wheels!'
Nice. Thank you
why was mausic so different >>a lot had this CREATIVE SPARK that is missing in todays comericially pasteurized Michaeljackson-madonna influence..thanks for the upload.
I think much of mainstream pop rock or whatever genre is made for shock and money. there are some fine artists in the alt/indie rock field that put the music ahead of those things but they tend to be dismissed as lo fi neo folkies or branded as hipster favorites etc. there is good music around its just getting harder to see through the murk
One of my all time favorite albums. So glad that the whole album's been posted.
Donovan,my r&r hero,the original Groovy Guru
Merry Christmas
Reminds me of being In Galloway in Scotland back in 1973 played this on sunny evenings.
Had this on vinyl but so lost in the years...
Perfekt album... meget behagelig og avslappende til tider..
I was a Donovan lover from the Fairy tales albums up to Baramajangle, which to me was a big disappointment, and I kind of forgot about him, till one day I deciede to go to a second hand record store named Cheap Thrills and I saw Cosmic Wheels and his follow up Donovan. A lot of times I'll pick albums just by their covers and get some very nice surpises. Cosmic Whells and the Donovan albums brought me back to Donovan.
This album speaks to my soul
wow! by 1973, we had sorta lost track of donovan and his great, great work! guys like kraftwerk soon came along, remember them? this album, (i swear i never saw it or heard it that i can recall!) sounds none-too contrived or anything,i must say... i mean this is a serious artist! even to this day,i admire the guy's work more as time goes by,man!
Has anyone else ever heard or listened to this rare Donovan album?
Heard it probably around the time it was first released on a Detroit progressive radio station , when there was such a thing. WABX.
Yep, still got the vinyl after all these years; it's cool, but I like his "Open Road" even more. Cheers
this was the first album I heard of Donovan back in 1978 I was 17; few years ago I was reading replies on Donovan stuff and I wrote something, a man, replied and talked, make long story shorter, Mr. Gibson,(love him) said he'd keep eye out for album, I had it on 8- track in 1978, he found it on vinyl, 2 years after we had conversation he sent it to me, which makes me think of Kristofferson song, here comes that rainbow again.the line"ain't that just like a human." I figured he'd forgotten about it all. Thanks for the album , but thanks more for being a real human, ( that was for Gibson, even if he doesn't ever see this, I wanted to thank another human who is like Donovan's meanings, or whatever,im not too good with words. Peace.
Yes,it was one of my favs in about 1975 when i was 19.this was in western australia
@Katana Fish Yes me to bought it when it came out from 78 Records in W.A.Still in pristine condition !

Who needs drugs when you've got donovan
I recall this vinyl album with an image of an ancient monk crossing through other dimension

It's almost like something Marc Bolan could have done. So beautiful.
Thank you
Cool vibe
I'm 23 years old and I really like donovan!! I'm mexican!! LOL
I'm 70 and still like him.
Donovan is a troubadour, i.e., a musician by trade music for all time ! that's the best music .. music that is good for all time!live it up ....
I'm a cosmic Mexican. But I'm not sure how old I am. I think.
I love Donovan!
I think that he is so underappreciated and he's the perfect example of how there was a lot of great music from the mid 60's to mid 70's that wasn't made by the Beatles.
Imprssed with your great taste in music. How did you ever come across this album so rare. One thing that brings us all together. Off topic I am SO very very sorry at the treatment of anyone who's not white in this country. It makes me sick inside. I hope this changes.
realy lovely album cool 2Day as well as yesterday thnx
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
beautiful
Thank you
my senior prom. iworked at a record store j. p. Snodgrass Columbus ohio
my senior prom would've been ten yrs later...couldn't tell ya! if i'd even had a date, hopefully she would've been too cool for that crap! haha! ah,y'know,i could've been talked into anything, by like almost any girl...and was somehow quite immune .. too.. shy-shy... hush-hush, eye to eye, - i betcha that song would have been heard then and there,in 1983 was it?
Nice, I'm in cbus now, rolling down 315 with my cosmic wheels
One of my favorite Donovan albums. I started collecting them when I was 14. I bought my first copy of this album at a flea market, the original copy and cover, complete with the color in picture. A few years later I found a German import copy brand new, no fancy cover but a nice fresh vinyl with no scratches. I now have 20 Donovan albums in my collection. I remember coloring in the picture on the original copy one night after work while tripping..
Glad you liked it and thanks for commenting. I must admit I'm quite surprised by the great response to this post. I did not know that there were so many Donovan fans out there. Glad to hear from one of his biggest fans. Thanks
Got a DJ copy of this when released, but it somehow disappeared. I'VE LOOKED AND LOOKED AND LOOKED for it, without success. Thrilled to see it today on YouTube. Please let me know if you find another copy. A real gem!

Michael Cornea i
Thanks !
I need this on vinyl; my first time hearing it.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the note
Man I loved this....such a strong departure from his folkier early stuff....I can't lie...Born in 57 I came of age to Muscle Shoals grease and Beatles Stones singles and AM 60s Top Forty and hit mid teens to Zep and The Floyd and real Fleetwood Mac and of course Southern rock
But we long haired southern boys loved this album by the hit singles wunderkind
The Bolan angle rings so true
Note neither Napster or Apple have this up
Same way they treat Kirwin Welch Spencer era Fleetwood Mac sadly
Thanks. Sounds like you're a true music fan. It's still good even today. Yeah I don't know why Donovan lost favor here. Thanks for the note
another listen confirms my original verdict. nuggets from the moon - thankyou for indeed providing us with some cosmic nuggets
You're very welcome.
thanks so much for this, couldn't live without it in 73, and it's as brilliant today as it ever was, thank you gentleman
i was an elton and beatles fan, being only eight yrs old back then - but earlier donovan albums were not unknown to me, - but i recall maybe a yr later, the theme for 'the rockford files' and that was and is the shit!
y'aaaaaa'm'saaay'n?
Very overlooked album, a turning point for Donovan, still have my cosmic crayons and will color again!
glad you liked it. still don't know why he didn't have the staying power in the States
The song Cosmic Wheels lets Marc Bolan influence the Donovan muse - the apprentice pays back the master. Groovy !
I'm sorry but I don't understand. Did Marc Bolan play in Donovan's band?
No. There may be some influence although I haven't compared them enough myself to be able to point it out. As Donovan was around a little before Bolan I'm not certain who was the master. I guess depends on who you favor. I think.
Well, any which way you decide to run it down it still ends up groovy so I guess it really doesn't matter, huh!
good observation
No masterpieces on this LP. Don’t think Donovan is sad or oppressed enough to play blues very well.. to me his earlier stuff still echoes to this day...
this album has such texture
still have the vynal
My favourite Donovan Album... I've been saying that this is the most underrated masterpiece since I bought my copy 40-odd years ago.
one of my favs from back in my smoking days
summer 1973, ninth grade
There is so much amazing music from the late '60's into the mid '80's that has fallen into near obscurity. Sad!
Mine too.
This and Open Road just blow most minor glam stars off the stage. His vocal range and the more bombastic arrangements are in full form.
A big 70s fav of mine! Very cool stuff!
So lovely.
Thank you
