This song makes me think of my crack addicted brother sleeping on my moms couch tired and dirty after days on the street. I use to be so angry with him for not getting help. We still loved and respected him but it hurt to see him like that. A few years later He was murdered just when he cleaned his life up. Now i wish i could just hold that dirty hand and tell him how much I love him. I 'll take him anyway he came at this moment... RIP Cleophis Ramsey jr.

This reminds me of Romans 12:10 We should love each other as brother and sister. Donny Hathaway had such an annointed voice that he could just blow you away with his tone alone, that is a true vocalist. No runs no gimmicks just this raw voice of power and resonance and his piano and band. One cover he did that's not on LP is On a clear day you can see forever Live at the Boston workshop I wish someone would have recorded that moment.

Donny is one of the all time great singers, but this version pales in comparison to The Hollies. Still, I shall take anything Donny Hathaway, any day.

I lost my brother November 22 2016 and it the pain is still crippling. You never really know or love like you should when you can but the second they are gone and you can't say the things you waited to say because you took time forgranted it's easy to think every day or hour is guaranteed but its not so love like today is it and say everything that's in your heart because they could be gone anytime

This was my best friend Terry's favorite song. He was 16 when he was killed in a car wreck. That day we spoke of taking our dates to the homecoming dance. That was Monday. I cared him to his grave 3 days later. At our football game on Friday night they played this song to honor him. 40 years later, this song still brings tears to my eyes. I think of him often, wondering if we would be in contact today. I guess we are, because I think of him often! Show your love today to though you love, because they could be taken from your life before you know it. I wish i would have appreciated our friendship at the time. Love you Terry! I hope I was a good enough friend.

He takes a great song to another level, although it was a hit for The Hollies and they do a pretty good version, really impassioned vocals, but, no disrespect to them, this is what a real soul singer does to a song, it has so many inflections, it just comes from the soul of someone who suffered, and it shows.

So much talent, but his songs were filled with so MUCH pain, like the late great Phyllis Hyman!!!  They both got tired, gone too soon!! RIP@ both
