Donnie Iris - Together Alone Lyrics

Because of our ties
We can't show each other how we feel tonight
So we'll go home
We'll each pour a glass of white
And we'll face the night

Together alone
Together alone
All we can be is
Together alone
Together alone
Together alone
We'll face the night
Together alone

There's a bright star out tonight
And I hope you see it too
From your bedroom window
If you do, look upon it and think of me
And I will think of you
And we'll drift off to sleep, baby
Together alone

Girl, do you believe in destiny?
I do believe that we're meant to be together
Oh girl, don't you see
That we will never be
Take a good look at me, baby
And these chains holding me

Together alone
We'll get through the night

We'll each pour a glass of white
And try to face the night
Together alone

Donnie Iris Together Alone Comments
  1. D.... W....

    Good doo-wop, from Donnie.

  2. s.... ....

May have made it a LITTLE further up the charts than Ah Leah (#25 vs #29),
but certainly Ah Leah is his most known song by a long shot... along with Love Is Like A Rock.

  3. G.... K....

    LOVED THIS SONG!

  4. J.... W....

Love of Donny Iris just never got to me when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s but I remember well his other two big ones and I suddenly remember that I know this one and haven't heard it in quite a while, but I never put it together with Donny Iris. NOW, I'll have to survey all the DI that I missed and sigh about how I just never realized before! Lol

  5. M.... J....

Is this the karaoke version? It's all bkgnd vocals. The lead is cancelled.

    M.... J....

The background vocals are by the lead. They stacked his audio to sound like multiple singers.

  6. J.... P....

I have no memory of this song. But I love it!

    J.... P....

Joe Postove that’s the way I was; I could only remember Ah Leah & then I heard this on a repeat of Casey Casum’s countdown @ thought it sounded great!

  7. J.... R....

Two great early 80's songs that sound similar: "My Girl" by Donny Iris and "Sweetheart" by Frankie & The Knockouts:)

  8. K.... K....

    BIGGEST RADIO HIT I GUESS.......
NEVER HEARD IT AND IM 46.LOVE IS LIKE A ROCK!!!!!!

  9. M.... S....

I hardly think this was his biggest hit most definitely it has to be a Leah even love is like a rock but this doesn't bring bad much memories for me

  10. E.... F....

I remember this song but I had no idea it was donnie iris.

  11. E.... P....

is this from a movie soundtrack maybe? Never heard it before

  12. D.... ....

surprised this was Donnie Iris's biggest hits considering it gets less attention than "Ah Leah" and "Love Is Like A Rock"

  13. R.... F....

    Such a great danceable song.

  14. b.... b....

Ah Leah is the song Donnie Iris is known for. Why it didn't go to number 1 on the charts is beyond me. This is the first time I have ever heard this song. Everyone loves Ah Leah.

  15. D.... B....

Ah Leah was much much better than this song. I am not sure why it peaked higher.

  16. G.... T....

    Bigger than Leah? Seems doubtful.

  17. G.... A....

His Biggest hit?! OMG...........This PALES big time to "Ah Leah". I grew up in this era and NEVER heard this song once! But "Ah Leah" was unavoidable at that time when you turned on the radio! Hmmmmmm..............

  18. S.... S....

    sounds like. ELO definitely

  19. J.... N....

This is not a bad song but Ah Leah is it IMO. I like so many more songs better like "It's a rough World".

  20. w.... ....

    SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. t.... ....

"Biggest Hit"?? I've NEVER heard this song before clicking this link.

    t.... ....

tattgirl70, i am just dying here, as i clicked link wondering what this biggest hit of his was & no sooner was i thinking what f'n song is THIS - I see your comment, made even funnier as i am assuming you were born in 70 as was I. rock on 70 Baby!

    t.... ....

It's his biggest hit as far as Billboard's charts go. But realistically -- in terms of radio play, Ah Leah is his biggest hit. It is still played on classic rock stations -- not just 80s stations -- which is probably the only place you could hear 'My Girl' on the Radio. Some of his other rock hits are played on classic rock as well, but Ah Leah is his (and the group's) signature song.

    t.... ....

Think 'Ah Leah' was bigger than 'Love is Like a Rock'? Both really good.

  22. T.... S....

In The U.K. It Peaked At #234 In Fall 1981 And It Failed To Get To The U.K. Top 100

  23. T.... S....

It Failed Just Like His Other Songs To Chart In The U.K.

  24. T.... S....

The song Also Peaked At #47 In Canada On The RPM Magazine Charts.

  25. C.... S....

    entered Billboard March 27, 1982 ..reached #25

  26. W.... ....

This song had a lot of airplay in the Midwest and the South in late 1981 and early 1982. It was the highest charting song on the Billboard Pop Charts for Donnie. His lone Top 25 single. Ah Leah made it to #29 in 1980. Love is Like a Rock made it to #37.

  27. M.... ....

So weird, I loved "Ah Leah!" and "Love Is Like A Rock" but this "My Girl", I don't know why but I just don't have much about it nor remember it that well...?

    M.... ....

It was, perhaps, the weakest track on the album. Not a bad song, but so many better songs were not released -- especially the phenomenal 'That's the Way Love Ought to Be'. But that song did get play on FM rock -- whereas 'My Girl' was strictly pop and top 40.

    M.... ....

so true. "that's the way" could have been top 10. check out the "ellwood city" cd, in particular, "little black dress",, and "with this ring".

    M.... ....

I remember winter of '82, one of the most brutal winters with many days below zero and all time lows.

    M.... ....

And if I remember the aftermath of Mount St. Helens is what caused it.

    M.... ....

BTW, "Lying With Staistics" was his highest charting album!

  28. r.... ....

a rather obscure hit from Donnie Iris and the cruisers, but I've got the album this song is on, but no turntable, so thanks for posting it.

    r.... ....

I got this one and its awesome.
    uturnaudio.com

  29. h.... ....

    Don't remember this getting airplay.

  30. T.... P....

dont forget his group the Jaggerz who hit no.2 spring 1970 with the Rapper

  31. M.... ....

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!   FINALLY!!!!!   I've been looking for this version of this song since I lost the 45 record of it I bought when it came out - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. D.... B....

Something is wrong with the sound....low quality

  33. W.... G....

Clearly has a '50s vibe to it, as did some records back then as there was still a lot of '50s nostalgia at the time and the '60s nostalgia craze was still a couple of years from starting.

  34. B.... S....

very reminiscent of John Lennon Double Fantasy...

    B.... S....

    Yeah or ELO.

  35. S.... B....

Wow... this has just not gotten old!

  36. R.... Y....

Donnie Iris was originally with The Jaggerz.  He refused to do a reunion with them.

  37. 7.... ....

Love going back finding all these obscure songs. While I remember his other hits songs, I do not remember this one.  I may have tuned it out, as wouldn't have been the sound that would have attracted me.  It has a very ELO-ish sound.

    7.... ....

ELO?  Where is the string section?

    7.... ....

@717mienbao More like a '50s vibe than ELO.

    7.... ....

+Walt Gekko it has the sound of elo's xanadu music slightly

  38. R.... ....

    Extraordinary track! / ¡Extraordinario tema!

  39. c.... ....

I try to keep it positive, but I heard this song before.  "Hot Fun In The Summertime".

    c.... ....

    Not. Even. Close.

  40. S.... ....

king cool is badass he played near me tonight i missed it wont miss the next concert damn it lol

  41. R.... W....

Thanks for posting. Love is like a rock was my favorite Donnie Iris song, but always liked this one to.

  42. b.... ....

Donnie had three Top 40 hits in the USA. Of those three songs, this song went the highest up the chart. That's all. Musical tastes are subjective.
Thanks for posting this fun hit from the spring of 1982.

  43. k.... g....

His biggest hit? What are you smoking? Ah! Leah! and Love Is Like A Rock kick this weak songs "arse". Nobody posted it before because it SUCKED!

  44. D.... W....

Thanks, verycoolsound for postin' it. God bless you, for it. Have a blessed rest of the week!

  45. b.... ....

His best by far thanks for posting!

  46. j.... ....

Yep! I was shocked when I searched YouTube for this one several months ago and found nothing! I owned the 45 of this one and played it until I wore it out! I'm sure I've heard this one 1,000 times and I never get tired of hearing it . . . the hooks just keep coming and coming!

  47. r.... ....

Thanks for posting - I remember hearing this on the radio, but no one else seems to.

  48. M.... V....

    Daniel, my source (Joel Whitburn's Hot 100 1980-1989 DVD-ROM) says 3/27/82.

  49. M.... V....

Seriously? I always thought "Ah! Leah!" was his biggest hit. Shows what I know... guess you learn something new every day. It's still a better song imho, though. ;)

  50. D.... B....

When did this song chart on the month, & day of 1982?
