Donna Fargo - I Don't Know What I'd Do Lyrics
Sometimes I take you for granted
And I long to be free
And I drift into my dream world
Where it's easier to be
When I've stayed too far from home
And I know I wasn't meant to be alone
Sometimes we're so far apart
It seems like all we do is hurt
I wonder how we got together
From two corners of the earth
But when I think of all the choices
I would have if I were free
If you stopped loving me
When I think the grass is greener
Than what it is at home
It amazes me how wrong I can be
When I'm wrong
But, you know me
I'm always dreaming of a better place to be
And then I don't know what I'd do
If you stopped loving me
And I just had to tell you
One more time the way I feel
Just because I love you
And I guess I always will
And I sit here thinking of you
Trying to sew up your old jeans
I just don't know what I'd do
If you stopped loving me
When I think the grass is greener
Than what it is at home
It amazes me how wrong I can be
When I'm wrong
But, you know me
I'm always dreaming of a better place to be
And then I don't know what I'd do
If you stopped loving me

Lyrics:
Can't remember my first mem'ry of you you were always there
And now I know I never knew you well
But I was just a kid and you were always there
To pick me up everytime I fell.
And you always warmed a blanket to wrap around my feet
When you tucked me into bed to say my prayers
And I'll bet I never thanked you among all the other things
That I took for granted cause you were always there.
Yes, you were always there so we never took the time
For you to tell me your dreams and me to tell you mine
And we never took the time to talk of love and happiness
And life and death and heartache and pain and loneliness.
Why I don't even know if you were happy or if you could have been
Or if you could have one wish what would it be
Or what would you do differently if you could live again
And were you glad that you gave life to me.
And I'd give anything to tell you am I glad that you were born
But you'll never hear the words I've learned to say
'Cause before I got to know you died of loneliness
And they tell me I grew up and moved away.
Yes, you were always there so we never took the time
For you to tell me your dreams and me to tell you mine
There were so many things that could have been but now we'll never share
'Cause kids, don't know much and you were always there.
No kids, don't know much and you were always there...

This song breaks my heart because I never had someone that was “Always There”
That special someone that we took for granted. Thanks for posting.
Her music makes me happy, but sad at the same time. We will never again have singers like we had in the 70's and earlier. All the great country singers are dying one by one. :((
I love all of of hear
Her music is so awesome. We just don't have country music like we did back in the 70's and earlier. I still have two of her albums that I listen too all the time

I grew up with this wonderful singer and my favorite song is daddy dumplin and I sing it to him all the time when I was a child and I still do to this day
A little twangy, but still one of the best songs ever written. For some reason, this is the day I thought of it
Just "Wow"! Written AND sung by Donna Fargo. What a talent. Thanks for sharing RonjasCCQ - really enjoyed it!!
I was a freshman in high school whe. I first heard this I think. I touched me so much even later in life that I made it a mission to share it with others and tell them it's not to late. I lnew my parent as people thanks to Donna Fargo.

I just heard she had a stroke recently
fighting MS for a long time
I love this song, but it always brings a big "lump in my throat" when I listen to it. As a result I can hardly stand to listen, it affects me so much. That being said, I still think it is a great song and Donna Fargo delivers it in a powerful, believable way. Thanks for posting it.
