Don Williams - Good Ole Boys Like Me Lyrics
When I was a kid Uncle Remus would put me to bed,
With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head.
Then Daddy came in to kiss his little man,
With gin on his breath and a bible in his hand,
And he talked about honor and things I should know.
[Chorus]
I can still hear the soft southern winds in the live oak trees
And Those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me,
Hank and Tennessee.
I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be,
So what do you do with good ol' boys like me?
Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does,
But you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was.
John R. and The Wolfman kept me company
By the light of the radio by my bed,
With Thomas Wolfe whispering in my head.
[Chorus]
When I was in school I ran with a kid down the street,
And I watched him burn himself up on bourbon and speed,
But I was smarter than most, and I could choose.
Learned to talk like the man on the six o'clock news.
When I was eighteen, lord, I hit the road
But it really doesn't matter how far I go.
[Chorus]
Yeah, what do you do with good ol' boys like me?

Very few can touch MY soul like Don did. Those that don't 'get this' can just stay away from THIS old grey beard. God Bless....~Eli.
Amen. Been listen for many years.
Before Garth, Shania, and all the millennial nonsense, we had Don! There will never be another like him. RIP. :'(

This song is for anyone saying you can’t hear feelings
Great now as it was 20+ years ago!
If you're a Southern boy, then you understand that Don sang our lives. Few artists could capture your heart with lyrics and melodies like him.
R.I.P. Don. They don't make 'em like you anymore.
This song touches my heart and I am not even a southern gentleman. Long live country music and the genteel giant.
This song ranks in my top 5 from the 1970's so many great songs
As country as it gets.
Im uncle remus
Takes to a time when life was right
They all turn back to country music
Gues we all goin be what we're goin to be
I identify so much with this beautiful melody,my childhood relived !!!
Love listening to this song, simply because it makes me feel more in touch with my roots, plus I find it ironic that a Williams (myself) likes to sing this song, wrote by a Williams, and mentions 2 Williams'
One of the most beautiful and memorial voices ever to sing. I was fortunate enough to have attended a concert of his. He sounded as good live as on a record.
Much respect Mr Williams
My sister loved your music
Luv this song
Been There and even know what a LIVE OAK looks like !
I went to see Don about 6 times the last couple of years of his life, all in cities in the Ga FLA and SC areas. GREAT MUSIC LIVE and still good recorded. Miss him a lot!
We're all going to be,,,,what,, we're going to be,,come hell our sold into a deity..
This is and has been a fall back for me, for years. I'm not north or south, but a humble person with a belief in people and basic sincerity of concern/intent. That belief is expressed here, a beautiful and sincere recall of a life, real or not - but the intrensic belief that was imbedded and lived, true. So I keep on in that direction, falling back to words sang here - now writing my own.
The forgotten intellectual country music.
Still listen to it cause this song ease my mind all the time i'm listen to it.
This is classy country.. not just classic country.. Not many left to say that to me anyway.. I have many, many memories of listening to the best of the country songs on television and radio in the car.. Never will forget that feeling..
For the lhe L*ST 11 1/2 ye*rs, I've been living in M*rion, Illinois - I'm being (uh) C*RE GIVER to ONE of my 2 gu*rdi*ns since 2010. Life's been GRE*T for me, BUT it's *lso been LOUSY.
100 per cent country. Nothing less
Southerners have a bond like no other
Outsiders will never understand it and they shouldn't
We will be the last stand of freedom just like last time
We were right then and right now
God bless you all born and raised in the south
Time draws near
Takes me back to the days when my grandparents were alive. They lived in the mountains. I was so niave. The soft southern winds were like i imagined heaven.
A Man with a golden voice

Truly amazing song just love it
"I can still hear the soft southern winds in the live oak tree." takes me right back to my grandmother's house in Griffin, Georgia. Oh, and the picture of Stonewall Jackson on the wall.
cant add enough comments.. sounds non cancompare. no worszzzz
cant find anything any better
I hate what has progressed with time. I think music could have stopped right here. My dad introduced me to Don Williams and I've been hooked ever since. Music now a day's just sucks.
I love this classic Country. Takes me back to when life was simple. Nowadays society has lost their minds and the music, including today's Country music, is loud and obnoxious.
We had a karaoke business for almost 25 years and I would sing the classic songs, and even had offers to sing in bands but declined except for one friend. I sang this song and ended up fronting for the band for that one night.
I loved the feeling of that crowd, but it isn't about that. It's about the memories these songs stir, and still do every time I sing them. Yeah, the people still give me a good feeling and I hope that they know that I sing from the heart and try to keep an era of music alive.
Sorry for being long winded.
So what are doing about good ole boys?
Making their voice and their words truly immortal!!@! To be appreciated till the world itself ceases to exist!!!!
I just know that this man is as genital as his voice. Like singing 👼.
reminds me of home
A timecapsule of good memories
Now this is true musicwhat's up with this garbage people are singing these days bring back Hank Williams jr. And the rest of these guys Waylon Jennings there's too many good Johnny Cash Elvis Presley do you want me to keep going on
I'm no CW fan, but it's hard not to like this.
Very good song, We all need more Don Willams in are life THANKS
Daddy 🧡
My childhood in south Alabama during the early 70's in a song.
Where in South Alabama man?
@Chris Gilliam Man Stuff About as far south as you can go. Summerdale, just off Gulf Shores.
@The Colonel Meh, I'm farther south by ten miles, Foley.😉
This song gets me, my husband’s name is hank, and we live in Tennessee, and he damn sure is a good ol boy..
I’m so very lucky and blessed!
This song though, is definitely my husband’s song ❤️🙏❤️
Sooo touching feeling the moment 😎😎😎😇😇
Ol Uncle Don he was smooth
1985.... 3 wheelers... 250 big red... Camping in the woods... Beers... Rum... 6 by 9 speakers in a wooden box... Cassette player hooked to a battery playing don Williams's... Best times ever....
Not sure why it makes me sad....but it does. And in a good way...
One of my favorites, what a voice
2019 and singing along with tears falling from my eyes... What happened to our world?
This song takes me back to my childhood. Sitting around the fire at the lake with my mom. I miss her so much but this song always brings back the good times for me. Thank you Don!
This was my grandfather's favorite song. He passed away in August.
Hey you don't have to grow up in the country to love country music. Ok?
Don are you related to Hank?
Damn it!!!! I've lived to see boys wanting be girls. Men going to the ladies restroom. Hyper- sensitive children demanding the Statues of Southern soldiers pulled and fake shock at seeing a flag. The NFL allowing players to kneel during the national anthem and half the highway men, Don "The Gentle Gaint" Williams, Earl Thomas, George Jones, Chris LeDoux, pass. We've done a hell of a terrible job with the gift that the greatest generation left us. Like South Vietnam and West Germany the country I was born and raised in doesn't exist anymore.
...And those Williams boys, they still mean a lot to me...
...Hank and Tennessee...
...And Don.
Nigerian man here and I’ve been binging on Don Williams nonstop
Hows the country going!?
long as you're still in nigeria...no harm no foul
When am I getting that money transfer?
we're gonna love you, cherish you and remember you.
If the Democrats ever gain control songs like this will be banned. VOTE TRUMP 2020!
Beautiful song [><]
We are gonna be what we're gonna be
Theres Isnt one singer today that sings a story.
Now it's all a soap opera.
If had one wish.
It would be that I could go back to the 70tes.
Agreed...I would like to go back to the seventies for alot of reasons these days.
There's still a few, but the list is shrinking very fast. I can't stand the local "country" stations for half a second anymore (I listen to death metal and hard rock or whatever, but not today's "country"). But give me a beer to cry in and I can listen to this stuff all night. Don..Keith..Conway..Gary..I could go on forever but they're falling fast :(
What can i say i 💘 love
Country music.
Nothing so finer...
What a wonderful voice
Don williams has..
Man i could listen to him all day..
I grew up with this song
Oh man it just melted my ❤ heart.. Never be another
Don williams..
Oh they just don't make music like this anymore!
always puts a lump in my throat
They don't make 'em like Don nomore... They wrote lyrics like it touched everything back those days about real life...
The Bob Dylan of country music
To my dying day, I'll regret having not been allowed to see this man and Glen Campbell in concert. I say "allowed" because there always was some dumb ass something stopping me from having the freedom to drive to where they were.
This song makes me so proud to be born and raised in the south and remembering all the little things in life if you a good ole boy you will love this song .....legends never die
