Don McLean - Winterwood Lyrics
No one can take your place with me
And time has proven that I'm right
There's no place I'd rather be
Than at your place for the night
No moment steals away unfound
Lifetime lived in such a dream
Floats like a feather to the ground
And for the first time I've been seeing
The things I'd never noticed without you
And for the first time I'm discovering
The things I used to treasure about you
The birds like leaves on Winterwood
They've learned to live life as they should
They are at peace with Nature's ways
You are as natural as the night
And all that springs from you is good
And the children born beneath your light
Are like the birds on Winterwood
And for the first time I've been seeing
The things I'd never noticed without you
And for the first time I'm discovering
The things I used to treasure about you

Don Mclean has a beautiful pure vocal, mellow tone. Always loved his voice. This is a lovely song, the lyrics are so sincere. - very nice -thank you for uploading.
I'm sitting here eating malted milk balls and enjoying oldies.
The best song on a truly brilliant album.....
Wow, 1000th like. Sad. It should be at least 1,000,000.
Brilliant as fuck!
A few years back, I was driving out in the country, and was heading up to what I thought was a tree full of leaves.
As I got close, hundreds of birds flew off the tree leaving it naked -- it was actually dead. The birds had made it look like it was alive and lush.
I immediately thought of this song.
Excellent career, and for a few years, just as good as Dylan, as in Bob; and Simon, first name Paul.
Totally unique sound , Don McCleans vocals and his guitar playing and the clarity of the sound is superb, I listen to his music when I’m happy and sad , true artist .
What a perfectly crafted song. It captures beauty, life and nature like I've never heard it captured before.
Wow memories
This song is perfectly written. Metaphors, longing, great singing and playing. Bravo.
Esta buena canción la compuso DON MCLEAN y la canto y la publico en el año 1971
Think he's pretty underrated. Thanks for posting this sweet song
He looks like Ben Affleck there.
ONLY TALENTED
I love this song I learn t one night when I was alone and it was so cool he is such a great writer
It's nearly my 14th Birthday and seriously I feel as though I was meant to be born many years ago instead. I want to bring music like this back to the public, someday, if my music is half as good as McLean's music, I'll know I've done my job. :)
Well sweety--many young people writing on You tube--express that same opinion---so all is not lost
Don is a complete genius, knowledge, command of the langauage he has it all took my Mum to see him and she was astounded. I was not because I had been astounded for years, a pure wordsmith and genius
What a wonderful ambition. All the best in fulfilling it.
You are inspired. Follow your dreams!
Tiraz be happy youre… 16... now. You can come to YouTube and listen to songs like this anytime you want and not depend on the radio (which never played this, btw) or owning the album. It's a good time to be alive in many ways! Btw, best of luck with your ambition. IMO there's a huge void in today's music just waiting to be filled by talented singers/songwriters.
Such a great song , why ruin it with that title on the photo "winterwood B.J. ? Bunch of perverts. lol.
Don is a true poet. Thanks for posting.lovely song.

Wendy Evans Very great SONG Love it !
Wendy Evans Yes. It's heroic and hopeful at once. Gentle. What a sexy photo of him here. 🤗
Melody seems a little shallow but perfect for this time of year. Lyrics sparkle like jewels.

great !
To my wife:....at your place for the night.......yeah baby....flip the switch.....
I know what you mean...this was the most influential album in my life..It was my crutch through some hard times.
me too he made English an artists palette
Same for me!
its funny you say that, the ONJ version reminds me of when my son was first born so I hear it with very different ears.
I always wish he would do the chorus a second time round at the end. Anyway, he doesn't and neither did Olivia.
Olivia Newton-John ruined this song, as she ruins everything...
I happen to like Olivia's version too - no, she doesn't ruin everything.
alworkedup apart from tight pants
Wonderful song by one ot the true superstars of music.
Amazing sounds & very enjoyable.
I have always loved Don mcLean, Never heard this one. Love It,, Love It Love It!! Thanls for posting

The birds like leaves on Winterwood
Sing hopeful songs on dismal days
They've learned to live life as they should
They are at peace with Nature's ways
You are as natural as the night
And all that springs from you is good
And the children born beneath your light
Are like the birds on Winterwood
And for the first time I've been seeing
The things I'd never noticed without you
And for the first time I'm discovering
The things I used to treasure about you
No one can take your place with me
And time has proven that I'm right
There's no place I'd rather be
Than at your place for the night
No time can pass your sight unseen
No moment steals away unfound
Lifetime lived in such a dream
Floats like a feather to the ground
And for the first time I've been seeing
The things I'd never noticed without you
And for the first time I'm discovering
The things I used to treasure about you
Sometime in December, I might take a nice young lady to the woods, for a winterwood BJ
so great to listen to Don Mc.Lean, but why can't I listen to all of his song here of "America Pie" ? I got the album way back when Y.T. even exist...Just wonder what's wrong in sharing a FAb., album here....

Just great.. I saw him in both his concerts in Manila. One in 1982 at the Folks Art Theater and the other at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last year. After the Araneta concert we were having coffee at the lobby lounge of the EDSA Shangrila Hotel with my wife. Later after she went to the rest room, she came back to me ecstatic because she saw Don Mclean at the lobby. I wish I also did.
the man was a songpainter..pure perfection in music..
A VOZ De Don McLean é uma das vozes mais bonitas que já ouvi!! CANÇÃO LINDA.
LOVE,LOVE this song, wish that "oldies stations" would play all these lost classics!

Yes it is quite so that i post here that in exactly 1 day 47 hours 39 seconds i will destroy someones soul. and i do not know whos, it may be yours, but i will
Don Mclean is a great American singer and songwriter, and it saddens me that he does not get the wide recognition today that he deserves.
Ya knowwwwwww... this song, 1995 Summer. I played this song over and over and made my boyfriend slow dance with me. We share a daughter now. We unfortunately did not stay together... but his daughter and I always sigh allll happy like when we listen to this. She and I know its "our" song. *SMILE*
This song is pure quality gotta be a hit with the tree huggers and me. DM probably the most underrated writers of the modern day. Kills me softly!
@dannyfromtx Country? in a distantly related sort of way.
@mirwin931 I like mr dylans words , not his voice , Don Mclean is on a totally differant level, he, s a gift from God , . . Ive treasured his career , and his style of poetry that envelopes the true artists calling, . . . russell the wizzard on myspace july 16thy 2010

Yes, of all time. I would include Paul Simon's Graceland in the twenty and Marty Robbins Gunfighter Songs and Ballads and Roy Orbinsons greatest hits. Of bands I would include the Moody Blues Days of Future Pass
...of all time!
The American Pie album should be recognized as one of the top twenty albums of all time
DM is the shit
Thanks. The first sung I learned to pluck on the guitar...
Thank you Terry ,this is beautiful! Never heard it before, you're right he did some great stuff everyone knows, but maybe his best is rarely heard. xx
One of the greatly unappreciated songs. "You are as natural as the nigh, and all that springs from you is good..." Incredible lyrics, Don! One of my favorite songs ever.
wonderful song. thank you.
