Don McLean - Crossroads Lyrics

I've got nothing on my mind,
Nothing to remember,
Nothing to forget.
And I've got nothing to regret.
But I'm all tied up on the inside,
No one knows quite what I've got,
And I know that on the outside
What I used to be
I'm not
anymore.

You know I've heard about people like me
But I never made the connection.
They walk one road to set them free
And find they've gone the wrong direction.
But there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where I stand;
And I believe I'll walk them all
No matter what I may have planned.

Can you remember who I was?
Can you still feel it?
Can you find my pain?
Can you heal it?

Then lay your hands upon me now
And cast this darkness from my soul.
You alone can light my way.
You alone can make me whole
Once again.

We've walked both sides of every street
Through all kinds of windy weather;
But that was never our defeat
As long as we could walk together.
So there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where we stand;
And I believe we'll walk them all
No matter what we may have planned.

41 years ago, I lost the woman I loved the most. She was my high school sweetheart. I became a Delta Operator. She couldn't understand why I would fight and die for someone I didn't know
We located each other in 2005. We're both married others, but we've still love each other. I will never jeopardize her marriage, or mine. Lost my wife in 2008, but I will never force my love upon her. I will truly walk this pass alone.

Just a little ditty, no doubt Don scribbled on a napkin in a moment or two of quiet reflection. It of course completely blew my mind, and calmed my nerves, simultaneously. As the Mighty McLean has a way of doing, again & again.., You get my drift.

  18. t.... h....

Don McLean is a musical , lyrical and poetic genius . The words and notes tug every heart string . His songbooks are an emotional rollercoaster . Adore him . Xx

  19. R.... S....

The Beatles had just broken up and Dylan was in another funk, New Age musik was dawning, Buddy Holly was already a distant memory as the Stones meanly strutted their stuff. Out of the wilderness came an anthem of an album in American Pie and a new troubador in Don McLean. I remember it well. I was coming of age.

My absolute favorite Don McLean song, which is really saying something because I love most of his songs. However, the lyrics are inaccurate in a number of places. Mostly minor stuff, but annoying.

This song reminds me of jesus. We've walked both roads. And yes. He felt my pain. And healed it.. I love him. So there's no need for turning back. Cause all roads lead to where He stands.. and I believe I've walked them all.. no matter what I may have planned..

She is in God's warm embrace. Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. .

    S.... F....

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.

    Holy Mary Mother of God,

pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death

    Amen.

    S.... F....

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

We all go through life thinking
We have an answer to our own
    Personal dilemmas. But in
Reality all we need to do
    Is reach out, and understand
That we as humans need each
    other.

  88. M.... H....

I just feel this song stirss up so many emotions xx

  89. T.... F....

It's been awhile since I've uploaded this but thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts and dreams on this video. As the years pass on, the meaning behind this grows so thick. I'm glad I have this song to look back on time & time again. Bless.

Tethered Fur Official - I have chosen this song for my funeral service.

    T.... F....

    @Lynne Gee wow.

    T.... F....

I'm happy to have it now as I approach my 70s. So many more roads have been walked since I was 22 and heard this for the first time. Births, deaths, marriage, divorce, remarriage to the right one, loss of loved ones. So many pains lifted and peace restored. Still life is a mystery but a joy to travel on those roads of life.

  90. M.... P....

Just saw Don at City Winery last night NYC. When he did this last night I was an awkward teenager once again (as opposed to being an awkward adult :))

  96. S.... ....

How this guy knew my soul over a decade before I was born I will never know.

    S.... ....

This was the first song I ever heard where I felt the singer was singing to me and knew me and understood me.

    S.... ....

maybe you're just a basic bitch and never knew?

    S.... ....

hershenso Yep. I remember being about 13 years old and not understanding growing up or depression or anything I was going through... I heard this song and cried and cried and cried.

    S.... ....

Interesting because Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly” is written about him. If you don’t know it - listen to the original by her. Another incredible song.

    S.... ....

it was  written by Lori Lieberman,  referencing Don as he sang Empty Chairs.

  97. A.... F....

I am having this song played at my funeral, it is me and although it makes me cry everytime Iit is beautiful

    A.... F....

If it is you , then you are beautiful.

  98. P.... ....

This song makes me cry and die. I know it since I was 14. That's 20 years ago from now, even by then the song was old. The lyrics always touched me so very deep inside. I'm gonna cover it on the piano and sing it to an old friend of mine. Because the lyrical I, that's just him. He's so sad a person. Always finds reasons to hate himself. Always looks for them. I guess some people are just made for living as a personification of agony and suffering. I'll always hate and love you for that, my friend. Ten years, we made music for other people and ourselves. What great a time. Everybody loved us making music. Guitar + piano + two harmonizing voices, so very young those times back in the days.

    P.... ....

P14NOJOE i have friend just like yours. 😩

    P.... ....

That was me in my 20s. I tried so hard to be perfect and could never excuse (or forgive) my many faults. I ended up driving my first wife away. That seemed to wake me up to the realization that I'm not meant to be perfect, accepted my imperfections and worked on improving those things that I could.
