Dolly Parton - Travelin' Prayer Lyrics

Hey Lord, take a look on around tonight
And find out where my baby's gonna be
Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
For he is far away from me
Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
Make sure that he's gonna be alright
Things gonna be alright with me

Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
And make sure all his dreams are sweet
Send down that ya got him on the road
But you'll make it softer for his feet
Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
Make sure that he's gonna be alright
'Til he's home and here with me

Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
For he is sleeping under the sky
Hey Lord, make sure the ground he's sleepin' on
Is always warm and dry
Ooo, don't give him too much pain
And keep him away from planes
Cause my baby hates to fly

Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
For it gets rough along the way
And if it all sounds strange
Just because I don't know how to pray
Ooo, won't you give him peace of mind
And if you ever find the time
Tell him I miss him everyday

Hey Lord, take a look on around tonight
And find out where he's gonna be
Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
For he is far away from me
Hey Lord, would ya look out for him tonight
Make sure that he's gonna be alright
'Til he's home and here with me
Here with me

Perfect song from a great album.

  9. T.... B....

Does nobody know this was a cover song written by Billy Joel and on his 2nd album Piano Man?

    T.... B....

Actually, I was listening to a long Joel playlist, came across this song (again) and thought that the piano was very banjo-like and wondered if anyone covered it with one. So after some searching, was delighted to find this!

    T.... B....

Well, not sure if it's bluegrass or cowboy (country). Believe it or not, there IS a small difference. Either way, they both sound good, but I am more partial to Billy, always have been a huge fan. I do like Dolly, but not as much.

    T.... B....

Yep. I didn't know she had covered it until I heard it at Dollywood a week ago.

    T.... B....

    TOMMIE BELL ]of course

    T.... B....

I grew up with Billy Joel's 'Piano Man' album. That version is kick-ass, like it was written for tweakers.

  10. w.... ....

    pretty good

  11. M.... ....

My all-time favorite song of hers, far above any of her hits. This takes it back to where she came from.

    M.... ....

Its billy joel's song originally, this is a cover... So thats awkward hahaha

    M.... ....

+Isobel Munn Yes it is:) I wasn't actually thinking about it being hers in the sense that she wrote it, but in the sense that she performed it. But I can't deny, I didn't know who wrote it and might have assumed it was her. I need to remember what my mom said, to never assume :)

    M.... ....

@MelanieAF ahhh right, yeah does sing it pretty well, i personally prefer the original but im pretty biased hahaha

  12. D.... L....

@njbubba27 You're nuts!! LOL. To each their own...

  21. J.... Y....

I saw her perform this song on her "Hello, Dolly!" tour at the American Airlines Center in 200-something in Dallas. I took my best friend (at the time) Angela, to the concert, and tickets were $75 each for a cheap seat. The concert was fantastic, though, and the opening act was the Grascals! Still, even after the Grascals performed, they still told us it was gonna be half an hour until Dolly would appear onstage.

  22. G.... J....

thanks for posting, beautiful and exciting cover of the Billy Joel tune

  23. a.... ....

    Love this song so much!

  24. a.... ....

What's even more amazing is how a New Yorker Pop/Rocker singer like Billy Joel can write such an authentic sounding Bluegrass song when aged only in his early 20s, nearly 40 years ago.

    a.... ....

His version really does not sound like bluegrass.
