Dolly Parton - I Will Always Love You Lyrics

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you each step of the way
And I will always love you
I will always love you
Bitter-sweet memories
That's all I am taking with me
Good-bye, please don't cry
We both know that I'm not
What you need
I will always love you
I will always love you

I hope life, treats you kind
And I hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of
And I wish you joy
And happiness
But above all of this
I wish you love
And I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you

If I should stay, I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you each step of the way
And I will always love you
    I will always love you
    You, my darling you, hm
    Bittersweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
    So, goodbye
    Please, don't cry
Cause We both know I'm not what you, you need
And I will always love you
I will always love you, you
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish to you joy and happiness
But above all this, I wish you love
And I will always love you
    I will always love you
    I will always love you
    I will always love you
    I will always love you
I, I will always love you
    You, darling, I love you
Ooh, I'll always, I'll always love you

Well, I'll simply say it because it is true, and the most intelligent of us know that it is true. When it comes to this song, Dolly Parton is to Whitney Houston what Elvis is to The True King.

Even Elvis's earlier performances are mere pathetic attempts at coolness, attempts that have so little imagination that they do not deserve an allowance even for antiquity's sake.

On the other hand, there is true and obvious greatness here:

We see here such a display of human potential and depth that it ensures MJ will be relevant for at least another 150 years. There are so many subtle brilliancies here that they cannot all be named. For example, note how after staying in the riff for nearly a minute, MJ sweeps his right hand at :50 to signal the beginning of the song. This is style, real style that will remain excellent to our species forever because it is an elegant use of our natural form. Contrariwise, take a look at this bit of toiletbowlery:

Does Elvis even compare here? Please! There is no question that MJ reigns, clearly, above anything that Elvis could have ever hoped to achieve. But there will be scores of old fogies who, despite now having knowledge of genuine greatness through artists like MJ, will nevertheless claim that Elvis was equally special - somehow. Utter nonsense! James Dean and Steve McQueen existed long before I was a thought to my parents, and yet I see their work and know that they were special. They will remain special, as MJ will remain. But Elvis was only special because people did not know any better. Now that they know better, and he has become merely a glitter painting on velvet that is being sold from the back of a rusted El Camino.

A bunch of fogies will insist that Dolly's version of this song is somehow as equally special as Houston's when in truth is that it just is not. Everyone knows that it is not. Indeed, Dolly's version is weak - milquetoasty and worthless by comparison.

Dolly whimpers her love such that it remains bounded within a very limited and passing context. But Whitney, on the other hand, declares her love as if singing to The Universe. She sings it as if taking wings and flying up to The Gods. She took this little tune of Dolly's and single-handedly converted it into an Anthem to Persevering Love. There is just nothing like it. Houston's version has so captured the world's mind that if one were merely to say the words "And I Will Always Love You," one would provoke Houston's voice - and not Dolly's. Here are numerous performers, great and small, covering *Houston's* tune - not Dolly's:

Parton may have written it - But Houston did it full justice and made it hers alone.

  16. Patricia Lauriello

I love Dolly. She is underrated as a song writer.

  43. clementino francisco

Love this version which is the original, it was Ms. Whitney who made it global and gave it the fame and appreciation the song deserved by taking it to places that the the wonderful and multi talented Dolly would never took that wonderful song, it not only make Ms Houston richer an most famous, but Ms. Parton was all in realty gave her at lot of cash until this day, God Bless them both!!!

  44. Idk what to Name myself

She was gorgeous back then, she’s literally plastic now

    pof pof

That is the unfortunate part of societies influence on public figures as they age. We all expect them to be the person in their prime, but to make all of are hopes be real , Dolly does have to resort to cosmetic surgery. However, when your picture is all over the internet, you want to look the best you can. Presentation is everything, but yes so gorgeous. Its sad they cant just age gracefully without the pressure of society . Today's music is about money, and the engineers who work the magic behind the scene This is the most raw, and blunt emotional feelings towards another, in every form a human could do to say sorry, I have to leave

  45. Shady Kitty

didnt know this was by her learn something new every day

  65. Reginald Jones

    Dolly and Whitney...

    👑 BOTH are Queens! 👑

  66. Drew Br.

This song would have faded off and away out of the media if Whitney Houston didn't bring such Passion nd Soul when she shed Light and Awarness to Dolly's wonderful and emotional song!! 💯✔✨lol I only say that because she sang it totally different on a lower scale than Whitney did. Whitney Was and, infact, still is the Angel 👼 that helped her song prosper...💯✔✨

  67. Melliecent Dignos

It digs deeply in my heart.
    She's so humble
Not even a human being to be compared with.
Humility is the best defense although it's impossible.

  68. jill quinlan

Why is this recommended 9 yrs late cmon

  69. Burnt Popcorn Productions

Whitney Houston's version is about like Darius Rutger singing the Old Crow Medicine Show's song... Wagon Wheel. It is the Jewish musical industry rewriting using the black culture as a weapon to overshadow white culture so that the Jews are the Supreme White Race. They have been doing it for thousands of years. The NAACP was all Jews. Fact. See oldies music in the Doo Wap Era as well. Dirty Bugs.

  70. Ahmad Afandi

    Dolly parton : sad version
    Whitney houston : spirit version

  89. Carol Kammeyer

  94. Adieu Nightmare

I’m so Sad that Dolly doesn’t get acknowledged for her song. It’s 2019 and I just realized.

    Marketplaces Creatives

@John C That's true. Dolly says that Whitney made her rich !

    Geoffrey Dunn

Dolly Parton is the most recognizable singer in country music. And still goingbstrongbin 2019. Shes every bit as great as whitney ever was

    Daniel Delatorre

Because Whitney Houston absolutely obliterated that song.

    Kayla Brown

She said Whitney can have the credit for the song as long as she got the checks in a Wendy Williams interview LMAO
