Dolly Parton - Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos) Lyrics

The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting
The oranges are piled in their creosote dumps
You're flying them back to the mexican border
To pay all their money to wade back again

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis a-mi-gos, Jesus and Maria
You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane
All they will call you will be deportee

Some of us are illegal and some of us are not wanted
Our work contract's out and we have to move on
But it's 600 miles to that mexican border
They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like theives

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis a-mi-gos, Jesus and Maria
You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane
All they will call you will be deportee

My father's own father, waded that river
They took all the money he made in his life
My brothers and sister come work the fruit trees
They rode the truck til' they took down and died

The airplane caught fire over Los Gatos canyon
A fireball of lightning that shook all our hills
Who are these dear friends all scattered like dry leaves
The radio said they were just deportees

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Rosalita
Adios mis a-mi-gos, Jesus and Maria
You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane
All they will call you will be deportee

No, all they will call you will be deportee
All they will call you will be deportee

Beautiful version. Odd no one has mentioned it was written by Woody Guthrie?

  10. r.... j....

Somebody should help me forward this song for Donald Trump to listen to it. Great lessons from it.

  11. S.... N....

Powerful and well done by the legend herself

  12. R.... E....

I first heard and learnt this song back in my school days. At that age I could relate to the song and the essence of empathy to mankind. The most important lesson though is the relevance of the struggle to make life worth living and the dignity of labour.

  13. D.... R....

I always got goosebumps everytime i listen this song. I

This is a beautiful, well written song. It causes me to think about how hard the migrant farm workers from Mexico worked the summer I was 13 and tried to work beside them in the Maize and Milo fields during the summer. So hard did the Mexicans work. They have always impressed me as the hardest working class of people and are treated so poorly. Yes, I know that the wall is necessary, I'm talking about the legal migrant workers.

    Brilliant, go for it Dolly

  17. S.... S....

God, it's making my eyes wet, i've seen their old pictures before they board the plane.

  18. L.... J....

I love Dolly's version of this.

  19. C.... M....

I first heard this song in the 1960's performed at Studio 4 Folk club in Norwich, England by John The Fish, a Cornish folk singer. I have sung it myself many times since. Dylan sang The Times They Are a-Changing but they are not. This must be one of Woody's most powerful songs
    John Moreton, Norwich

I think if you sang this song 1000 years ago or took it forward 1000 years people would recognise what it is about. So many, over millennia have understood the power of taking a persons name away..

  21. r.... c....

A powerful message, even today.... 2018

thanks to trump, this song is still VERY relevant. The president and Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions are MONSTERS !!!!! Down with the oligarchy!

Dolly has many of these kinds of songs this is my momsfavorite kind of dolly song its deep and sad and me

  26. K.... T....

    Lovely rendition; powerful.

  27. C.... B....

    Another of Dolly's heartfelt melodies.
    Ta Dolly.

    C.... B....

It's a song with lyrics by Woody Guthrie and music by Martin Hoffman. So, it's not a "Dolly heartfelt melody" although this certainly is a sweet version.

  28. R.... P....

    A powerful message, even today....

  29. D.... ....

Is it just me, but this song reminds of me Bread's "If" (1971) And so this song feels even older than that song?

    D.... ....

It's an OLD Woody Guthrie/Martin Hoffman song about an actual event.

    D.... ....

Lyrics by Woody Guthrie with music by Martin Hoffman detailing the January 28, 1948 crash of a plane near Los Gatos Canyon. Has been recorded many times - before 1971 and many times since.

  30. M.... T....

swinedance, his song, is about the Brasero program. So yes things have changed. The workers have more rights and better working conditions, they have had for the last 40 or so odd years. I know a few of these men who worked that program, and became citizens legally.

    M.... T....

So glad to hear of this program.

    M.... T....

Human trafficking is more prevalent than ever so let's not kid ourselves.

  31. C.... R....

    so sad.

  32. s.... ....

This song is 60 years old and not much has changed. That doesn't say much about our society, does it?

    s.... ....

    getting worse

    s.... ....

    wE lIVe a SOceITy

  33. R.... M....

As usual Dolly put all her heart and soul into this song. Makes you fell sorry for the poor workers. Any song by Dolly is always heartfelt and has a story. In this case a very sad one. Go Dolly

    R.... M....

Love u Dolly... deportees is sutch a sad song... still goes on 3 world folk want a better life..RIp to the folk and aircrew who died in Los Gatos Canion..😨
