Dolly Parton - Applejack Lyrics

He lived by the apple orchard in this little orchard shack
His real name was Jackson Taylor but I called him AppleJack
Now old AppleJack was loved by everyone he ever knew
AppleJack picked apples but he picked the banjo too

Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song for me and I'll sing
Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song, let your banjo ring

Now I'd go down to AppleJack's almost everyday
We'd sit and we'd drink applejack that old AppleJack had made
Then he'd take his banjo down then he'd ask me if I'd sing
And he would play the banjo and I'd play my tambourine

Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song for me and I'll sing
Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song, let your banjo ring

That's when I was just a kid and now that I am grown
All I have are memories, old AppleJack is gone
Oh but he left me his banjo and it always takes me back
And everytime I play it I still hear AppleJack

Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song for me and I'll sing
Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song, let your banjo ring

Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song for me and I'll sing
Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song, let your banjo ring

Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song for me and I'll sing
Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack
Play a song, let your banjo ring

Thank you, GuriMalla2010, for this video and the reminder of their beautiful harmonies.

Dolly Parton: One of the best artists ever at transforming grief into multilayered art that contains surface meaning (tunefulness) and subtext (religious).

This was my favorite Dolly song when I was young, I'd play with my Applejack My Little Pony and make her dance around to it. I never realized how much I'd come to regard this divine woman for the exquisite gifts her voice and words would come to augment my life with. I'm sure Applejack wouldn't mind I chose Dolly over her, no. Why, I think she'd even carry me to Dolly so we could both bask in her heavenly music together again, if she were a real horse that is.

I always thought she was beautiful even with a little weight honestly no shade intended anyone else?

  32. J.... W....

What's notable about this is at this time Linda Ronstadt was a 500 times bigger star than either of them and she just hangs back happy to just be part of it all. You'd never know she was the most successful woman in popular music then and possibly in history up to that point.

    J.... W....

    Jonathan Wallach What?

    J.... W....

Alexander Griffith In 1976 Emmy Lou was not well known and Dolly Parton was nowhere on the map except for country. Ronstadt was the most successful woman in the business.

I know many people regard dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn or patsy Cline as the greatest female country singer ever, but in my opinion its emmylou harris. Wheather shes country, folk, Americana or whatever shes my favorite female singer period, and definitely in my top 10 overall.

    T.... L....

When Emmy Lou met Linda, at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Houston, TX , she was singing in Gram Parsons group. And in the first conversation they had, they asked who was the other's favorite female singer. And for both of them, it was Dolly Parton.
