Dobie was one of our friends who came to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to get his hands in the Holy water and black muck of the Tennessee River. Ironically, Dobie came to Muscle Shoals with the intention of following Charlie Pride into country music along with Ray Charles and the great Joe Simon. Dobie spent a lot of time in Northwest Alabama back then. He actually wanted to be a country singer full time but Rick Hall told him this would be a big hit. It did ok. Still my favorite song of his.
