I was so silly once but I felt this way about a man. He recently died of over dose and after he passed I heard he had spoke of me in certain circles of people that we both were friends with. But he left me six months pregnant and with a baby girl I was devastated. Now, I wish I'd just focused on the kids and me for them a better future. They're 15 and 16 now and already down a tough road.

What a shame such God-given powers & talents should be prostituted to the service of the devil because of her pride and stubborn vanity. Natalie Maines should be flogged for throwing away all of this for her damned ego.

When I was little, I understood this song was about a woman who wanted her man to love her again, but I never noticed the bridge.

The fact that she seems to be implying this was sudden and she doesn't know how to explain it to the kids does make you realize that this is probably more about a cheater than a marriage that simply ended. A couple divorcing when no cheating was involved tends to be a lot more peaceful and valuable to the kids. Not always but usually. The split is mutual and bringing someone knew in usually takes time and so its easier to adjust. This is not the song of someone who was mutually consenting to the end of the marriage.

That being said, using kids as reasons for them to get back together when he doesn't love her is not healthy. It will ultimately make them both miserable. Kids can tell that and will be affected. It's best to just let him go.
