Dixie Chicks - A Home Lyrics

I mistook the warnings for wisdom
From so called friends quick to advise
Though your touch was telling me otherwise
Somehow I saw you as a weakness
I thought I had to be strong
Oh but I was just young, I was scared, I was wrong

Not a night goes by
I don't dream of wandering
Through the home that might have been
And I listened to my pride
When my heart cried out for you
Now every day I wake again
In a house that might have been
A home

Guess I did what I did believing
That love is a dangerous thing
Oh but that couldn't hurt anymore than never knowing

Not a night goes by
I don't dream of wandering
Through the home that might have been
And I listened to my pride
When my heart cried out for you
Now every day I wake again
In a house that might have been
A home
A home

Four walls, a roof, a door, some windows
Just a place to run when my working day is through
They say home is where the heart is
If the exception proves the rule I guess that's true

Not a night goes by
I don't dream of wandering
Through the home that might have been
And I listened to my pride
When my heart cried out for you
Now every day I wake again
In a house that might have been
A home
A home

  1. C.... H....

Andrew this is about our lost time. what might have been.

  2. T.... K....

An amazing piece of music by an amazing group of artists. Their MIA status and reason are an abomination. I'm looking at you Sean "Sellout" Hannity.

  3. K.... E....

    Hauntingly beautiful.

  4. H.... S....

This is such a beautiful song. Thank you Dixie Chicks.

When my husband died from a prescription drug overdose, I went crazy...literally. I was placed in a psychiatric hospital for 2 weeks. One of the therapists gave me an iPod with this album on it and the first time I heard this song, I listened to each word and the crazy subsided to grief. The grief led me to realize that there wasn't anything I could have done to save or change him. It also led me to understand that I had been holding on to a terrible fantasy of a love that had died long ago. I was grieving the hope of a home...safety that I thought I had won. It's been 6 years now and my grief has made me travel a road to something stronger and built on a better foundation. But I still listen to this song to remind me that there was a time I believed in once upon a time...

I am sorry for your loss. Pain can be so totally encompassing. I hope that happiness and comfort follows you wherever you go. They never leave your soul or heart.

  6. R.... ....

This is my life right now.Every moment of every day. Except not by choice.

  7. b.... d....

    This is my story

  8. R.... M....

This song shames me for my limited talent. Hard to label these Dixies- Bluegrass maybe? Whatever, this particular song (and I've proudly got 'em all) is easy- "music doesn't get better than this." Thx for sharing, ladies. the Radman

  9. 2.... a....

My main pick for a "go to bed song", this is really hauntingly beautiful yet so soothing at the same time

  10. L.... M....

One of the best songs from the Dixie Chicks!!!! It is pure heaven listening to it!!

  11. v.... ....

One of my favorite songs ever. Such a genius song.

  12. T.... ....

My nana and I listened to this album all the time when we would travel. I miss those days.

  13. A.... ....

This is the kind of music that country music today is missing. It's not only hauntingly beautiful lyrically, but melodically as well. They should get more recognition.

    A.... ....

AnneCookie They used to be very famous, until they made a political comment, then they went downhill.

    A.... ....

Norma Summers yeah a joke about the president, who was an asshole anyway, America got butthurt and treated Dixie chicks as if they needed to be burnt to the steak, some people need to get over themselves. They're amazing woman with angelic vocals and music and are beautiful people inside and out.

    A.... ....

AnneCookie there was a very good country album that came out last year called Souther Family if you haven't heard it check it out it has a very traditional sound

  14. J.... G....

Steve Wright (DJ),  introduced the Dixie Chicks with Landslide (I think). I've loved their music ever since.  Haven't listened to this album for a while. Excellent.

    J.... G....

You mean introduced to the world? Landslide was way after they hit it big.

  15. p.... s....

You owe these girls a percentage of any profit. If you made nothing then you're promoting and publicising them for nothing and good luck and well done.

  16. w.... ....

Do you think saying that you didn't mean to infringe copyright somehow stops you being prosecuted? It means nothing.

  17. J.... H....

I've been listening to them since I was 2 and I'm proud to say I've grown up with this album.

    J.... H....

    This album is absolutely brilliant.

    J.... H....

I've been listening to them my whole life and i support their claims

  18. D.... S....

Country's greatest whatever the idiots say.

    D.... S....

Dave Shephard only an absolute idiot would discredit their music, talent, and ability. It's probably just above your head. This album, home, is an absolute masterpiece if that word could ever be applied to country or pop music.

  19. x.... ....

Dixie Chicks are and will always be one of the greatest country acts of all time! It's pathetic how the Country Music industry has completely shut them out. All because Natalie said she was ashamed that George Bush was from Texas....Guess what I'm ashamed that he is from America!!! All my love and support to Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks <3 Forever a FAN!
