Divine Comedy, The - Party Fears Two Lyrics
I'll have a shower and then phone my brother up
Within the hour I'll smash another cup
Please don't start saying that or I'll start believing you
If I start believing you I'll know that this party fears two
The alcohol loves you while turning you blue
View it from here from closer to near
Awake me
Don't turn around I won't have to look at you
And what's not found is all that I see in you
My manners are failing me I'm left feeling ugly
And you say it's wonderful to live with I never will
So what if this party fears two?
View it from here from closer to near
Awake me
I'm standing still and you say I dress to well
Still standing still I might but it's hard to tell
Even a slight remark makes nonsense and turns to shark
Have I done something wrong?
What wrongs the wrong that's always in wrong
I'll have a shower
And then phone my brother up
Within the hour
I'll smash another cup

AWAKE ME
Sacrilege!
what the fuck! I've never heard this cover before! i'm fucked if I know what to make of it. I adore the original.
Solid cover version!
And that folks, is how you do a cover version
The original blows this out of the water.
Oh dear! Stick to the original.
Awake me!
No no no
Vast improvement on the original, on which the singer sounds like he is being constantly kicked in the bollocks.
If you don't "get" it with the original vocal - sang by the guy who wrote it, then you don't deserve this song. Soz.
Sorry. He wrote a good song, but his singing was shit.
Don't be sorry, you're just wrong. Either you have no ears (no sunglasses for you) or your fingers are making a fool of you by typing the opposite of the truth in Youtube comments. Both rare conditions but easily diagnosed. Check in the mirror, if you can see ears (usually located at the side of the head) then it's the fingers thing.
@Cherry Chapelle I concur the person who doesnt like the original is wrong plain and simple
Divine Comedy yes; Neil Hammond yes; this cover NO NO NO
FUCKING TERRIBLE BILLY WOULD TURN IN HIS KENNEL !!
Oh God!...make it stop!!!
my lovely, lovely, lovely, horse...
I thought his voice would really suit this, but yes, what an awful version musically!
whats with the silly cantering rhythm ? sounds daft as fuck and..........farty.
Certainly a lot better vocals than the original...
George McKenna Ha ha.I like Neil Hannon but his vocals are certainly not as good as the original. They were outrageous and over the top of the top,but that was what was brilliant about it.
I agree. The bloke on the original sounds like he is being whacked in the balls.
What a ridiculous thing to say.
Some songs like this 80s classic shoudnt be recovered. This version is not very good , Billy should sue.For want of a better word its Crap.
he'll have to sue from beyond the grave, he's been dirt napping for nearly 20 years, and this cover is terrible.
I wasnt expecting much, but the Heaven 17 one is terrific, in my opinion. Dont hate this one but it is utterly forgettable, which, for this song, is pretty damning.
@martin fox - considering Billy's been dead for 20 years? You literally have no idea, what you're talking about, oh well don't let that stop you, carry on......
Billy would have loved this!
He would have laughed and laughed...
Thank you for posting.
80´s classic ! !
Billy MacKenzie would turn in his grave..
+brian fulcher Totally agree................it's like they've "jolly hockeysticks" up a quality classic which found it's strength in Billy's vocal and the actual power of the music....
If it's possible to turn a totally credible, unique piece of art into a GIGANTIC TURD in the space of one recording then congratulations to The Divine Comedy.....well and truly achieved.
There is one redeeming thing about this version though...hang on...wait a minute....erm...NOPE...i was wrong....THERE ISN'T!!!!!
SONIC FOXX MUSIC...(D.N.A... Developing New Artists) lol
Like most covers it has no soul or conviction!
If you're not going to do something different with it, why fucking bother?
The Heaven 17 is a little slower eym liking the lower pitch voice on this cover :)
Brilliant!!!
Must admit I am not a lovers of cover versions but this is probably one of the best I have heard and Neil had such a great voice
One of the best covers I have ever heard! Neil Hannon really never disappoints. He gives the Associates classic a nice, music hall sheen. So perfect.
Associates must loved it...
