Divine Comedy, The - Come Home Billy Bird Lyrics
William wakes with his clothes on
The morning call has been and gone
And he might not make the flight
But he will try, yeah
Bit by bit, it comes back to him
And a strange drinking game
Oh, God, why?
Come home, Billy Bird
International business traveler
Come home, Billy Bird
He hails a cab but the driver sucks
He drives so slowly, and he talks so much
That it hurts Billy Bird's aching brain, yeah
She says "no way," but William begs
On his knees, "please, please, please"
"Well, okay"
Come home, Billy Bird
International business traveler
Come home, Billy Bird
Drenched in sweat he finds his seat
And with the luggage squeezed down beneath his feet
He begins to think that things can't get no worse (can't get no worse)
But then a voice says, "Bags that can't be stowed
In the overhead lockers must go below
In the hold, please let go, thank you, sir"
Come home, Billy Bird
International business traveler
Come home, Billy Bird
Come home, William, come home
He runs on past the carousel
Screaming, "Damn my luggage all to hell
I can buy a new shirt and tie any day"
He rides from the airport into town
To the high school football ground
Where his son has just begun his big football game
Come home, Billy Bird
International business traveler
Come home, Billy Bird
Come home, Billy Bird (come home, William)
International business traveler (come home, William)
Come home, Billy Bird (come home)
Come home, Billy Bird (come home, William)
International business traveler
Come home, Billy Bird (come home, come home)
Come home, Billy Bird (come home to where you once belonged)
International business traveler (come home)
Come home, Billy Bird (come home)
Come home, Billy Bird
International business traveler

Divine Comedy, The Come Home Billy Bird Comments
One of Neil Hannon's best tracks ever. And what a wonderfully intelligent and entertaining video.
Who's here from Ashens?
My partner of 8 years introduced me to this song, which he loved. Now he's died, I keep wanting him to come home, even though he can't.
Always loved this video, though the subject of the song was perhaps too obscure to become a "hit"
2019 anyone??
Yep, and it appears William is not coming home...
Bit by bit it comes back to him,
A bunch of Belgian businessmen....
love the alliteration.
I remember when I've seen for the first time this video, and If i have to be honest, has been a love at the first sight , very compliments, Neil this is awesome, good sound, voices. .😍😍😍😍😍
Strange yet effective
this song makes me want to be a business-man when I was a kid.
Now where did I put my collapsable speakers
Did you smash them with your hands?
Loving Lauren laverne on the backing vocals
Good old William Bird. He pulled out all the stops and made it to his kids ball game just in time. So I say "Well Done Billy Bird International Business Traveller".
Sadly though, in now appears things haven't gone so well for Billy Bird...
#RIPBillyBird
Somepretentiousnameorother126 That's not the best form is it? First, you tell me of the demise of Billy the Bird, but then you only offer a hashtag that leads nowhere that confirms the truth of your assertion, nor allows anyone to lay a wreath.
I say you are a scoundrel Somepretentiousnameorother126 and I question what you did with Somepretentiousnameorother125. I say you are a bounder and a cad! Possibly also some evil genius, the kind of which I daren't even imagine (although it is my job to do so). I am on to you Somepretentiousnameorother124 (in disguise) ... I've seen you before (laughs diabolically despite being the goody).
Anyway, don't mess with me (or the Irish London sorts) they are devine and possessing of a lovely horse who lives in Eric's garden.
O.K. By now you think that I'm insane, or else you have done your research and know what I am talking about (or possibly both). Either way, just accept that you have lost (or else disagree if you want - that's one of the things you can do on the Internet).
Slàinte
It enrages me that the Devine comedy don't get much attention
RIGHT? I live in the U.S. and virtually no one knows who they are here and it kiiiiillllls me!
no it's good . We keep them to ourselves
they/he are incredibly well known
boopsbucket my uncle lived in Sweden years ago and then moved to the states/U.S and for some years ago the divine comedy came to Stockholm the capital city of Sweden but he lived in Chicago by then so he couldn’t go
But I went and it was Amazing but find it sad and strange that they are not known at all in the states.
did anyone notice the socks at 1:54 are the exact same colour and shading as the dress in 2015 that people couldn't agree on what the colour was.
No they aren't.
My favourite DC song
J'adore !!
