Dire Straits - One World Lyrics

Can't find no sleeves for my records
Can't get no laces for my shoes
Can't get no fancy notes
On my blue guitar
Can't get no antidote for blues

Can't find the reasons for your actions
Or I don't much like the reasoning you use
Somehow your motives are impure
Or somehow I can't find the cure
Can't find no antidote for blues

They say it's mostly vanity
That writes the plays we act
They tell me that's what everybody knows
There's no such thing as sanity
And that's the sanest fact
That's the way the story goes

Can't get no remedy on my TV
There's nothing but the same old news
They can't find a way to be
One world in harmony
Can't get no antidote for blues

  3. Reb

This song is still relevant today

  4. Reb

Whenever I hear this song, I think of running along Miami beach with my parents and brother once when we were a couple of days into a summer of hectic travelling. It was boiling outside, we only ran a couple of kms (I died) but if recently discovered this song and listened to it as I started out. Wish I had appreciated the experience more at the time. Still a fab memory...

  5. Little Lamb

Always reminds me of one of my boyfriends. He had superior taste in music.

  6. DVDfeverGames

I always liked this track, but yet it all still felt like filler.

  7. Daniel O.

*can't get no fancy notes on my blue guitar*

  8. Simply LW97.

Sad how true this song is

  9. Michael Re

This song was released as the "B" side to the "Walk of Life". Another great song from the "Brothers in Arms" LP.

  10. Andrew London

Mark knopfler, hands down my favorite guitarist/musician. Eric Clapton as-well, they both influenced me to pick up a fender Stratocaster

    Pulse87dotca

Brian Setzer and Joe Satriani are in my list as well.

    D P

Mark Knopfler is easily my favourite too. Fucking genius.

  11. Dan Trottier

One off my all time favourite songs ever... Mark is a definite master and poet with that guitar... Love this song!!!

  12. Sheldon Bass

I'll never forget the first time I heard this song and it was stuck in my head for week, and I only could remember the first quatrain of lyrics. Finally I found the album and it's been one of my favorites ever since. But everything Mark Knopfler did was great—all of the band, simply unparalleled.

  13. Reb

In literally the only person in my school who listens to Dire Straits but legendary music like this makes it worth it...

    Youtube user

That makes you the only cool person in your school

  14. T H

And they say no good music came out of the 80’s

    Pulse87dotca

Pfft! *Most* of the good music came out of the 80s!

  21. rayooo blanco

se me arruinó el disco de edición.

  22. Matheus Salustiano

    TheMcmikerg

Try living in a country full of Brexiters....

  26. Ronny Wallberg

There are many different kinds of light but only one darkness

  27. Ronny Wallberg

    ....FROM A GLOBAL VIEW....
    .
That all men are created equal.
    Wooah what bullshit Mr Martin
Luther King, we are all created
different, and there lies the beauty.
We all have the same human value
but our origine culture is totally various
    when compared. Our worlds cultural
differences ought to be kept separated
so that those differences grows and so
that the diversity on this earth becomes
as rich as it could be kept separated
and stimulated, not lost in a mix

    Agnes Njeri

I totally agree with you Ronny.
The mixture has brought more harm than good especially here in Africa.
    Kinyash-Nairobi -Kenya.

    walter brown

    What drug are you on

    Ink Ömpliet II

@walter brown yo taintlicker, try adding something of substance instead of wondering if this guy is on them. Maybe if you paid a bit more attention to what's REALLY going on around YOU, you'd understand these simple things...and also maybe wouldn't have missed using a ' QUESTION MARK' at the end of your copied/pasted senseless comment to consecutive posts..

    Simply LW97.

    Well said Ronny

    Simply LW97.

    Globalism is pure bullshit tho

  28. Flint McGerty

    Pulse87dotca

@Joanne Saltfleet I totally agree! I loved this song when I first heard it on the album. Never heard it get any air play anywhere, even though I requested it at several radio stations.

    Adam H

It's definitely an underdog in the Dire Straits catalogue

But it still doesn't beat Sultans of Swing
