Dionne Warwick - Trains And Boats And Planes Lyrics

Trains and boats and planes are passing by
They mean a trip to Paris or Rome
For someone else, but not for me
The trains and the boats and planes
Took you away, away from me

We were so in love and high above
We had a star to wish upon wish
And dreams come true, but not for me
The trains and the boats and planes
Took you away, away from me

You are from another part of the world
You had to go back a while and then
You said you soon would return again
I'm waiting here like I promised to
I'm waiting here, but where are you?

Trains and boats and planes took you away
But every time I see them I pray
And if my prayer can cross the sea
The trains and the boats and planes
Will bring you back, back home to me

The trains and the boats and planes
Will bring you back, back home to me

I think this song really sold me on Ms. Warwick -- then I really started listening, discovering Burt and Hal along the way. Now I can name any number of the great performances these three created -- so many/so wonderful. Dionne is my favorite female 'pop' singer of all time. 1/2019

Anyone who ever had a heart can understand the magic of Dionne Warwick and the writing team of Bacharach/David !

    m.... ....

Agree marknorth west David .bacharach and Warwick were a exceptional working team .Rarely seen today .Mind you tho it was kind of sad that later on that Hal and burt had a falling out .but I guess that's how it goes .

  22. M.... A....

HOW CAN DIONNE NOT BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ?

    M.... A....

Maybe because it's in Cleveland and she'd rather not go.

    M.... A....

Weil sie eine Frau ist und weil sie schwarz ist!
Because she is an woman and she is black!

  23. S.... A....

At least it has a happy ending

  24. P.... T....

burt bacharach is the best composer ever

    P.... T....

I could not agree more. He's the best!   This is my favorite version of TRAINS AND BOATS AND PLANES.    Brings back great memories of the Summer of '65.

    P.... T....

He's up there, but a certain Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart is, in my humble opinion, slightly better.

  25. N.... E....

I wonder who did the original back in '65.  That one was really great.

    N.... E....

That would be Burt Bacharach, as well as Billy J. Kramer.

    N.... E....

Thank you, Sir.  How about that?      http://nextaxpro.wordpress.com

  26. J.... W....

The sense of loss in this Bacharach/David masterpiece make it almost too much to hear, as with their "Take a Message to Michael." I have never understood why Lou Johnson's earlier version of the latter (called "Martha") wasn't a hit, other than that he wasn't that well known then. And it's also odd that although this 1960's songwriting duo's works were the least dated (other than Lennon/McCartney's), their hit streak ended pretty much exactly at the end of the decade.

    J.... W....

Their arrangements were very sentimental orchestrations, a style that got left behind in the 70's

  27. r.... s....

one of the best female singers

  28. s.... ....

    lol! Embarrassing...

  29. s.... ....

Elements of this song have a special significance for me, more than anyone might know.

  30. s.... ....

Me neither. But it is a pleasure, isn't it?
