I have sang this song to thoughs in distress. People I love & even people I barely know. And I MEANT it. Because I know what it's like 2 love someone like I love my daughter & 3 grndkds, When my daughter rejects me or punishs me by taking my grandchildren from me 4 as long as she wants to b/c of something I did or didn't do 25 yrs ago when she was a kid. She just yells at me hangs up the phone, blocks my calls & I get no explanation as to why she's so mad or even a chance 2 talk & try 2 work it out. It just about kills me. She's disgauarded most of the family b/c. Of. her anger and at 63 yrs old I'm not sure how many times I can go thru this. So I sing this song to myself & imagine Jesus is singing this song to me. I know He sees everything & He knows what it's like 2 B rejected by people who loved him. I wish I had the strength to just say "ok honey. Its clear that being around me triggers anger in you. And I can't force U 2 love me. I've racked my brain fire yrs 2 try & discover what I did 2 make u hate me. I've trryed so hard 2 give as much love as I can 2 U. I know I should just stay away if that's what makes U happy, but I love u so much evenin if u hit me like yr dad did. I can't stop trying to help U see I have so much love to give u but u keep pushing me away. Maybe I just need 2 stay away. If that's what makes U happy, that's what. I ❤ care about. It doesn't seem fair to my grandchildren either. My only granddaughter will be one yr old July 3rd 👑😥&I've only held her 2ice. God please help me🙏💧get my family back. Its so cruel I have always loved children & 4 some reason all the children in my family HAV been taken away from me. My nieces I loved as my own and helped raise don't even call me anymore. If my grandmother was still alive I'd call her at least once a week. She was so wise & loving. But when I offered 2 come to my daughter's place & help after she had my granddaughter. She without hesitation sad" I don't need or want your help & don't go out and buy a bunch of shit" I don't get it. I'd never talk to my mom that way. And I don't have any idea on how to convince her how much I want to see my grandchildren. I've been abused since I 7 when my mom married a cruel. Man who she finally divorced him at 15. At 18 I married. My daughter s dad who turned out 2 be a narrcisstic verbal physically abusive man After 2 kids and 5 yrs of trying 2 save my marriage. I finally left realizing he'd never change. After all he didn't have a problem it was all my fault. I had nothing 2 live off & if I told welfare where he was he threatened 2 take the kids & dissapear. For the next 17 yrs I put up with his critical Crap as I made it threw school on my own so I could support my kids. When I finally finished collage my daughter was 8 yrs old. My son 12. I finally got my babies back only 2 break my ankle in 3 places. I couldn't walk 4 six months. So I had to send my daughter back to her dad's &step mom who took her jealous y of me out on my daughter. Who was supposed to come back 5 days after I got home from the hospital. But she didn't want to come back. They could give her more things. I prayed and she finally returned at age 14. An angry depressed teen. She's 42 now and has never changed back to the tender sweet happy girl who left at 8 yrs old. Now with e grandchildren history's repeating itself. She doing to me Just what her dad did. Angry with no mercy no compassion and in her mind everyone else is a jerk she doesn't have a problem. And sees nothing wrong with treating me like a useless old woman she has no use for.

Carrol you tried and don't let anyone tell you that you are useless Just give it time and your daughter will come round and forgive you in time

I think if I had just one voice to hear before I close my eyes in death it would with no doubt be this woman's voice!!I have loved her voice from the first time I heard it in 1963.

+Alice Snow Agree with you 1000%.  I was only 8 or 9 when these songs were sung for the first time but today at 60, they are still some of my favorite songs of all time.  Dionne Warwick had such special way of conveying emotion vocally.  Her put her heart in every lyric she sang.

I was in a night club and they played the last number Walk On By, which I had heard often and liked, and prompted me to buy Dionne Warwick Golden Hits the following day. Then I found this diamond, which has to be my favourite of the lady.
The intro grabs you within the first second and never lets up, then Dionne sings, perfection, outstanding singing, lyrics, backing and arrangement. Doesn't get much better than this.

This is a gem of a Dionne Warwick song.  Funny how the radio stations don't play this anymore.  As if it has just been forgotten.  But the greatness of this song truly displays just how phenomenal the "#1 female vocalist in America" was in the early part of her career.  Such grace, elegance and femininity is just unmatched.  What an incredible voice!  This song is truly rediscovered treasure!

On this day in 1964 {October 16th} Dionne Warwick performed "Reach Out For Me" on the British TV program 'Ready, Steady, Go'.
Eight days later on October 24th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #20 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100.
It reached #1 on Cash Box's Top R&B singles chart {Billboard didn't have an R&B chart in 1964}...
And in Canada is peaked at #12 and in the UK it reached #23.
Ms. Warwick will celebrate her 73rd birthday in two months on December 12th.

One of favourite songs by a great singer. This record was bought for me by my then girlfriend, told me the song was for me. Sadly it didn't work out. This always brings a lump to my throat when I hear it. I've got other versions by Lou Johnson and Roy Hamilton, both great.
