Great try, but some songs are classics, and swing out sister holds the title for this one. I do not compare the instrumental (fabulous horn section) because that is in a class by itself as well. Once lyrics were added SWING OUT SISTER OWNEDIT!! It really hurts when artist embarrass themselves by trying to improve on perfection...

I think Barbara Acklin was much better than Swing Out Sister- a matter of taste

The version of 'Am I the Same Girl' by USA jazz singer Salena Jones (1970) is a mind blower - the best production and orchestration and sultry,soulful vocals. Swing Out Sister's live cover of Laura Nyro's Stoned Soul Picnic is the most gorgeous cover of that masterpiece song. Laura Nyro's cover of 'Gonna Take a Miracle' (1971) with LaBelle backing will blow up your speakers - incredible. Nyro was a Bronx singing/songwriting genius.

I have to agree a bit . For me, I feel there's a great singer on this, great band too. It's the arrangement... somehow just feels quite contrived. Nice groove going at moments, but it's so fragmented and busy that it just doesn't grab.
