Dinah Washington - Teach Me Tonight Lyrics
Did you say I've got a lot to learn?
Well, don't think, I'm tryin' not to learn
Since this is the perfect spot to learn
Oh, teach me tonight
Let's start with the A B C of it
Help me solve the mystery of it
Teach me tonight
The sky's a black board
High above you
If a shooting star goes by
I'll use that star to write I love you
A thousand times across the sky
One thing isn't very clear, my love
Should the teacher stand so near, my love?
Come on and teach me tonight
I'll use that star to write I love you
A thousand times across the sky
One thing isn't very clear, my love
Should the teacher stand so near, my love?
Graduation's almost here, my love
Teach me, please, teach me tonight

Dinah Washington Teach Me Tonight Comments
The greatest
Awesome voice.
Sounds like no one I’ve ever heard! Distinctive
Amy Winehouse's "teacher."
Singers like Dinah do not come along to often what a talent, l could listen to her sing all day and night even now at my age she sends tingles through my heart💕
Let's get to the X, Y Z of it. At your beck and call my love. That is the shape of a woman.
mary j blige playing her in aretha franklin movie
Where have all the great ones gone ?
The absolute best that ever did it💖🙏🏾💖👍
My parents had this album and at 13 years old I knew it was one of the sexiest songs I will ever learn. Thank you for the memories.
OH YES RIP TO A LEGEND DINAH WASHINGTON!
🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️
Teach us Dinah!
Formidable, but I still prefer Amy Winehouse's version!
Loved her in my youth , no vulgarity there
Dinah's voice is just the best, is it just me or is she very underrated
great, great, great
Bloomin marvellous
I've said it once and twice, and I'll say it once more. The Romans, Greeks and Sumerians would have ALL been so fucking jealous of us! USA USA USA!
Perfect diction, precise phrasing and delivery. She has always been my all-time favorite female singer. What a voice ! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Simply the best!
AN ERA SO BEAUTIFUL MUSIC HAS Lost its flavor like this This style of music cannot be replaced It should be played once again on the radios
I want to learn ASAP Dinah
rip sang dinah washington just simply beautiful even in 2019! now this is old way way back in the day!
Listened to Jo Stafford, Phoebe Snow and Etta James sing this song; but,, Dinah does it best. Sarah Vaughan is too jazzy for me.
What a song .what a singer. Amazing.
Thanks everyone for all of the nice things that you have said about my Grandmother again thank you and God Bless you all
We all love you mother
Loved your grandmother's performances. I would to see a movie about her career!!
My grandmother sang to us everyday. Singers are the givers of joy. What a treasure this song is.
I use to go to her shows. Excellent. R.I.P. Dinah.

Luv her, luv her, love her 😄
Compare Beyonce to Dinah. No comparison. Dinah is light years ahead.
Ellis James apples and oranges...I am a jazz, big band fan...all nite long. Love Miss Dinah and that time of real, real orchestras and music. Beyonce, I will respect for her pop, sometimes R&B groove. Pay to see either of them in a heartbeat.
one of my favirite dinah songs...a simpler time
This music is so under rated . So Sad ...Pure and true . To the Bone !
What a set of Chops!Oh Dinah!!
perfection
This is great, but see Jo Stafford's version. That's perfect singing.
Many good versions of this soung. Check out Janet Brace's recording or the version by Nancy Wilson. The one by Sammy Davis Jr. & Count Basie swings, and Stevie Wonder & Levi Stubbs (Four Tops) is pure Motown.
Somewhat diff song than the one by Patti LaBelle...
So So SMOOTH. And don't underestimate the contribution of Harold Mooney's orchestra.
Winehouse’s version has more swag, but this is the version that inspired her. RIP both Dinah and Amy.
Mon amour pour le blues et le jazz a commencé avec elle. Thanks Lady💖
Smashing Jazzy Number !!
Love it !!
Did you say I've got a lot to learn
when this talent gets picked up by a dedicated producer magic its here

I fucks wit Dinah 4real could listen for hours
I think that Diana Ross must have listened to Dinah...Her early records sound a lot like Dinah Washington...
My first date with an amazing man - small jazz club in Chicago. Drinking a great scotch on the rocks I asked the singer to sing this song and she was fantastic. He gave her a 20.00 tip. I love this song
They don't make romance like that anymore. Sounds like the perfect date.
woah the quality on this unreal. Also Amy Winehouse's cover is pretty dope and worthy of Dinah you guys should go check it out
Aug.29th: Happy birthday Jazz-R&B-Pop singer Dinah Washington (1924-1963); Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, USPS Commemorative Stamp, Big Band Jazz Hall of Fame, Grammy Award: "What A Difference A Day Makes." Thank you and God bless. RIP. Thanks for the upload, Iacometablanca. Blessings
Unique talent! I love her to bits.
Gorgeous! Gone are the days. No phony baloney auto-tune.
UTTERLY WONDERFUL.WISH I HAD BEEN TO SCHOOL WITH HER.

Man oh man, Dinah's music is right up there with Ella. Sad she died at 39 from drugs, alcohol and racial bigotry during 50s America. Could have given the world so much more of her talent had she not died so young. We're the losers now that she's not with us anymore.Man oh man, Dinah's music is right up there with Ella. SuperSpicyKirby IF you check, [or anyone who is curious] there is a programme on this medium, "The life and times of DINAH WASHINGTON" split in 4 parts[unlike the original BBC production] What actually killed the QUEEN of the BLUES",was Drugs supplied by American Doctors, brought on by the Press,She's overweight, etc.Consequently, Tablets for this, others to sleep, Amphetamines for go,then most of the Men,who She got involved with, used Her as a meal ticket.Incidentally, so many Artists die from prescribed drugs, Presley, M. Jackson, Monroe, and many more.maybe, there should be tighter regulation on Doctors in the USA?
stop being a fool...fool....just because drug addicts get their drugs from doctors doesnt mean they are not drug addicts...and if you had ANY intelligence you would know doctor shopping as it was called is not possible now...presley..was a drug addict period
Ms. Washington, simply fabulous ❤️
My Home Girl!!!!
Oh.. such a lovely voice and song.. Thank you for posting.. :)
sure music is to share
Great song to make love to.
This song was made before Al Jarreau, he did it great as well
hermosa!!
My favorite Dinah Washington....Like Silk!!!
WOW....This is amazing, she had such an outstanding voice. Thanks for this lovely share.
My memory of my aunts and mother listening to this and many other songs .
The credits to an episode on Six Feet Under brought me here. I LOVE this song and Washington singing is so crispy crystal clear!! :)
+bubblinbrownsugar616 --One of the best jazz/blues voices of all time...Oh Etta...you are missed!!
This is Dinah Washington.
+Anne Hodges its Dinah Washington lmao
I am here for same reason
This woman could really sing. I loved all of her music. What a talent!
I came to the six feet under :) anyone
A classic
Extraordinário!!
Sad we lost the great black singers at such young ages
Expetacular
i saw her[DW] as child, the childs ''lunch with supie at 12:00...supey[sp] sales also had a sophisticated nightime program [wxyz tv detroit] later 1950's for adults DW came and ripped up the place[my depression era mothers words] DW's then man hubby was dick ''the nightrain lane''.detroid lions defensive giant [probably kinescope mabe they or a few servive?] also frank and his pack made appearances plus greats like lady diane, earl garner, george shiring[sp] blind piano great and on and on. hope that material's around somebody please search for it.
wow listen to lyrics they are quite dirty
@jack meoff Not really. Compared to what?
consider the era that it came out
those lyrics are up there with tutti frutti and other early rock songs where the sex was implied
Geez Louise Dude.. the 20's jazz was a heck of a lot more suggestive.. Everybody went and got all religious and started having a hissy fit over lovely songs.. thi is not dirty.. unless that is where your mind goes.. :)
Amy winehouse canta mejor esta canción.!
+Daniel Cifuentes Ya quisiera acercarse a la calidad de Dinah Washington y mira que me gustan las 2.
Oh I see what Amy was talking about now.... Dinah was amazing and a unique singer. She meant it!
Your grandma was off the chain man! Holy Kamole! Can this woman ever sing!
@Thomas Leary Amy Winehouse
Not even unique. Just game. She's not the top top, you know? But so sweet. She could do Jazz, Blues, R&B, sad stuff. She recorded like no other too. Check Anita O'day, she's a lady in the same vein. And was a junkie for real, Amy might have liked that. But Dinah was the Queen of Blues.
@Thomas Leary By all respect for the only remarkable singer of the 21centuary, no need to mention her here.
@Iv; I think he was being sarcastic
Man oh man, Dinah's music is right up there with Ella. Sad she died at 39 from drugs, alcohol and racial bigotry during 50s America. Could have given the world so much more of her talent had she not died so young. We're the losers now that she's not with us anymore.
She's my favorite from that era
Dinah's best was better than Ella's best. She should have lived longer.
Jack R they were BOTH GREAT! Two Different kinds of Queens. Dinah was....? RAW! ENERGY WRAPPED IN SILK! Ella was like a set of orchestra bells that could SWING!! I’m a beginning jazz Vocalist and all I sing is influenced by these TWO!
In fact, I JUST performed You Go To My Head and Autumn in New York tonight! I’m just getting home and they enjoyed it partly because I attempted to infuse my phrasing and times with some of Dinah’s smooth-energy and Ella’s precisely controlled range and tones!
❤️Love&peace!🌷
Glow
She did not die from drugs bro
We're indeed the losers. Sadly, her story has many similarities to that of the unforgettable Billie Holiday. I never heard of Billie or Dinah during their lifetimes (I was a child, then), but now I feel I have developed an indelible bond with these marvelous artists.
Original classic blues
oh the days of beautiful music, big bands, jazz orchestras and beautifully gowned WOMEN - MISS it
Yes, such beautiful music, uniquely American and appreciated all over the world. America's great ... WASN'T it?
robertrstevens Yes, it IS!
Wow.....what a great voice she had. So very, very clear.
Check out All of me, Live from the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958.
I liked her music the first time I heard it but this one is my favorite. It's too bad that she died so young. Thanks for posting the video & pictures.
statesideqsod. fantasia. Barrino. he's. Such. a. rich. whisky. voice. also.
AWESOME !!!
Increible belleza..
like it
Fantastic singer, beats all the modern so called divas!!
I agree!
John Vallance She has been my diva ever since I first heard her voice over 60 years ago - TV Is The Thing was the song And I was only 7 years old but was so blown away by that voice. Nothing about her has changed for me in the least.
Wow.... Amy Winehouse sounded just like this; I dig Amy's finish on this tune though.
But, both Diana and Amy, beautiful voices.
This is how it's done folks, this is what music is missing today SOUL/PAIN/HEART......these days are to be treasured they will never be back again!!!!!!!!!!
Doo wop
i disagree, i think today it’s missing skill/technique/discipline. singers skip all that and they normalize bad sound.
Good grief that was great...Too bad drugs did her in 1959
No, that was Billie..Dinah died in 1963
Best version by far. Great vocal and horns. Dinah Washington had a great body of work, blues, jazz, pop. I have a "Best of CD" with 26 songs and there all "Good". She has enough material for another. Her last husband was NFL linebacker "Lionel Night Train Lane". The most feared man in football.
'Night Train' was a defensive back. He did "bring it" though, hence the nickname.
@ron a. Thank's, for the correction. I knew that, but kept saying Linebacker, I don't know why. I shall edit my mistake.
Dick "Night Train" Lane, not Lionel.
Nunca mais houve uma cantora assim!
