Deceiver is my favorite album out of 2019! It has it all. Favorite song is Acheron! Where have I been as I just got introduced to this band about 6 months ago??? Love them and hope they can make it to Utah sometime this coming year.

When I heard the lyric,"They gave us wings to fly/but then they took away the sky/", I felt that.

Amazing how non-descript DIIV sound now....a very poor follow up to the first two albums sadly

This is their best album so far. No other record of theirs could you listen from beginning to the end many times in a row.

u sure are traveling through space and time, this song is timeless.

I like DIIV because they're a perpetual nostalgia band for me even though I wasn't into them when I was younger. It's like their sound has that quality that makes you feel young and confused again, but in a good way

Doesn't even sound like the same band from Oshin. Love the versatility and very mature sounding.

The singer hasn't changed, he's just had a haircut, started wearing glasses and sobered up. The bass player used to be the keyboardist and third guitarist (and backing vocals live) before the old bassist left

The whole song is supposed to be imaginary dialogue between two people in rehab. Cole said the two could be people he knows or just him having a conversation with himself.

"I’d say it’s an imaginary dialogue between two characters, which could either be myself or people I know. I spent six months in several different rehab facilities at the beginning of 2017. I was living with other addicts. Being a recovering addict myself, there are a lot of questions like, ‘Who are we? What is this disease?’ Our last record was about recovery in general, but I truthfully didn’t buy in. I decided to live in my disease instead. “Skin Game” looks at where the pain comes from. I’m looking at the personal, physical, emotional, and broader political experiences feeding into the cycle of addiction for millions of us."

Addiction. The lead singer/lyricist/songwriter Zachary Cole Smith said he conceived the song as a conversation between two addicts. However, like one of the other posters mentioned, the beautiful thing about art is its openness to almost infinite interpretations...

The song, to me, is pretty clearly about drugs and maybe specifically opiates/heroin. "You gave us wings to fly but then you took away the sky" solidifies that bec drugs will make you feel like you can transcend the bullshit (in that moment at least) but next thing you know the whole world is dark.

diiv videos posted on this channel are the best. This album has a lot of great songs and while that’s not unusual for this band, I feel it’s a lot more stronger than their other ones because of the production values of this particular album. It’s so good 🥴

Just cause a band , in this case Kevin went mainstream doesn't mean he's not good. There is alot of bandwagons but they only follow trends.. They won't be around for long
