We were listening this song on our last business trip by car with my dad..i didnt knew he had cancer then..it was june..we went this place close to city to make the negotiation with the landlord to take the permission to sell the property..i had to stop several times for him because he had to pee.did not ring a bell then as i was 24 and had no clue why a man had to pee so many times in 2 hours drive..he had cancer then..and had more in following months..and he passed on the 7th month..rest in peace dad...rest in peace :(

The song seems like it was written for the younger me who I laid to rest many years ago. As a child I was beaten ,neglected,sexually abused. I never mattered to the people who were supposed to protect me. Even though I was able to get away from these people when I got older, I still could not escape from the nightmares. I legally change my name and protected myself and my family from these evil people.
At one point I had one of my counselors give me a homework assignment that helped me more than I could’ve imagined.
I was to write a letter to my younger me and put her to rest. I was to reassure the younger me that she would no longer be in pain. That she was safe, that one could ever hurt her again. I needed to reassure my younger me that she could close her eyes with no more fear. In this letter I buried this little girl that was in so much pain.
I am 45 now and still part of me still feels broken. This song, when I heard it, it brought so many tears to my eyes. I have not forgotten this little girl who endured so much.
By letting her go,I was able to move forward.
Everyone works through things differently and heels in different stages. My healing started when I left that part go so I could finally rest In Peace

I miss my elementary school when i hear this song

I heard this song (and the whole album for the first time the other day ) and this quickly became my favorite track.

I think that Dido has a beautiful voice, although from 3.48 the music sounds similar to Brian Eno's "an ending- the ascent" recorded in 1983.
I was wondering if anyone else has heard the similarity?

First i need to declare my love for this song. I along with many others it seems, believe this to be Dido's best song. It is so moving and at the same time understated. But as someone who lost his wife 2 years ago and still in no way able to "see the sun" , I think this is definitely a song extolling friendship, not moving on from devastating loss. Others have said that they would want a friend who would take the time and care enough to come and gently re-introduce you to the world after bereavement and I agree. However, the song is quite brutal to the bereaved person in places. "Please don't mourn forever, she's not coming back" brought me to tears. It's too abrupt - as is "So be thankful you knew her at all
. But it's no more" Dido it seems was 31 when she wrote the song so perhaps she had not experienced deep personal loss at that stage. I bet she would write the song differently today.

This song is about a your own breakup or helps anyone who needs to see the sun, see the happiness and move forward after a bad relationship. It's not easy restart but is necessary.

This song holds huge memories and emotions for me!

My heart felt like t was being punched continually. I sought help with bereavement counseling. The sadness turned to anger aiming at my family. I had to punch my pillow hard. When Mom was dying in the hospital, they never allowed me to say goodbye properly.For the first time in my life, I told my Mother, I loved her, before her last breath. My family argued where she should be buried nearby as she was near death.It took a lot of time to forgive my family, but I learned how too. I had too.I wish them well, but They ruined my life since childhood. I feel I'm the ugliest person in the world, they constantly told me. I locked myself away for years, because I felt I was too ugly. I was the black sheep of the family, Bullied at school, bullied at home.There 's is no love in my life, I'm so lonely it hurts.I took an overdose. I live in limbo. life is a curse. I am a published writer, Money means nothing to me, but love, means everything. I don't want to die alone.

My daughter was best friends with my mom aka her grandma and this song had her pushing through it when she was hurting after my mom died.

I went on holiday about a year after my wife passed away when I came across this song. I played it over and over again listening to the words. It helped me to pick myself up, accept what had happened and to live again, a different life, but living instead of living for the past.
