Diana Ross - The Music That Makes Me Dance Lyrics

To me, to me love is no go
Till fiddle and oboe start weeping, and wailing
That's my failing
He may be all wrong for me
But his is the only song for me

I know he's around when the sky and the ground start in ringing
I know he is near
By the thunder I hear in advance

His words, his words alone
Are the words that can start my heart singing
'Cause his is the only music that makes me dance

He'll sleep and he'll rise
In the light of two eyes that adore him
And bore him it might
But he won't leave my sight for a glance

In every way, every day
I need less of myself and more him, more him
'Cause his is the only music that makes me dance
In every way, every day

I need less of myself and more him, more him
'Cause his is the only music that makes me dance
His is the only music that makes me dance

Diana Ross The Music That Makes Me Dance Comments
  1. S.... D....

I bought the "Funny Girl" album upon its initial release and Ms.Ross sounded spectacular. Star quality!😊😊😊😊😊

  2. T.... d....

    a ross vanity project

    T.... d....

Thomas delvin idiot Berry Gordy instructed her every move

  3. T.... d....

I don't recall this song on that album maybe they cut it from the original release

  4. R.... W....

Her last belts (mu-SIC) sound shockingly similar to a Streisand-Belt!

    Stellar vocal performance!

  5. s.... ....

Streisand was furious when this was released.
Yet she did the same with Sunset Blvd., doing the songs that Patti Lupone originated.
Ironically, this was left out of the Funny Girl movie, Streisand only did it in the Broadwy play.

The biggest problem with many Supremes album tracks is Gordy's insistance that Diana Ross sing lead on every track- many were not suited to her nasal singing style and would've been much better suited to Flo or Mary on lead. It would also have given the group wider appeal and recognition of all 3 girls talents and contribution to their success. An opportunity squandered.

  7. S.... J....

Berry was getting Diana groomed for Lady sings the blues as well. The funk brothers show their real jazz style Gill Askey were the Supremes musical director and also for the soundtrack for lady sings the blues great versatility that the Supremes could do all types of music. That's why they were the top group of the 60's I have the album as well great music.

  8. R.... D....

Very good extended reworking of  this track.  I'll bet good bucks that the newly remastered  digital version of the  album this track originally appeared on sounds much better to you in the 2014 mix!

I could NOT have stated it any better!! I'm not crazy about this remix though.

such an underrated performance and one of Diana's best vocal Supremes days. She never received her props for this performance and Jules himself said she did a magnificent job. Again one of the many over looked underrated yet Best performances of a young Diana Ross, she was about 25 here and I remember that performance with Sammy Davis Jr. which is also on You tube. this woman is so Underrated she along with the Supremes paved the way for future Whitney Janet Mariah Beyoncé back then it was DIANA

I totally concur! My last show was in San Francisco Sept. 2011. Loved that she added "It's Hard For Me To Say" which is a fav but she didn't even show Luther's pic in the montage. WTF??? I basically have only seen Miss Ross in concert when she had a new album to promote. Heard the Hits a zillion times already. NEXT!!! SMH

    C.... S....

Carlton Saunders why would she have Luther in the Montage? It was a Motown Montage.

  12. p.... f....

i loved the album sadie sadie married lady was the best track for me

  13. t.... ....

I agree. A horror! Except the only song I was able to digest was His Love Makes Me Beautiful. It made me laugh every time.

  14. c.... ....

I like this song and the orchestra. I am enjoying hot tea and this music. I did not think this was such a bad album though. I actually liked a lot of songs on it when I received my copy of this record and I still have it in mint condition. It was one of the invites that opened me up more to broadway. I would play it on my sister's antique record player.

TheReturnOfStephan1 . . . I could not have stated it any better. I love Diana, will always love her, but she has toured with the more or less the same songs for the last few decades. She has worn out her most devoted fans. She is too much in her comfort zone . . . she doesn't take on any challenges whatsoever. Her one highlight of her concerts is DON'T EXPLAIN!!!!! I saw her last March 2012 . . . a big disappointment for me. She has exhausted me with her same shows.

  16. T.... ....

Had Diana never left her core fully orchestrated, sensual, Masser, Sawyer, A&S sound, she'd be as well-regarded as & sell just as much as Babs & Madge, neither of whom left theirs, but, Diana has NO faith in the soul part of her pop/soul sound, so, she hooks up w/ mostly mediocre pop producers, etc., and releases bland, disappointing music, taking herself out of the game, leaving room for people to scoff that she's "still around", despite still selling out large venues.

  17. T.... ....

Diana's to blame for that, as she only performs those 12-15, for the last 30 years. Were she to perform more of her vast catalog, the world would take notice, as they did when "Blue" was released. That album garnered a lot more respect for her talent.
When was the last time she performed "I Thought It Took A Little Time", "More & More", etc.?
Again, she's hurting her own brand, for no good reason.
It's starting to get on my nerves &, yes, I'm staring to see your point...lol

  18. T.... ....

To be fair, Diana's responsible for much of it, in that she never responded to the books as she should have, in respect to the big picture, in that the white male-dominated media were looking to negate Diana's accomplishments & the books helped them do just that. Had she b-slapped JRT & Margie(lol), & exposed their lies, she'd have come out an even bigger star, especially at a time when she was releasing mostly mediocre pop, hurting her brand.

  19. M.... ....

Thanks, never knew she sang it. Garland was almost at the end of her life there. Is a miracle she lasted as long as she did addicted to speed.

  20. c.... s....

It's on You Tube. She sung it on her TV show. I mean she sings it as only Judy can but the original version from the musical just always touched me in a certain way.

  21. M.... ....

    Sammy Davis Jr. was uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhgly.

  22. M.... ....

    What Garland version?

  23. L.... ....

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for uploading this! One of my favorite covers by The Supremes!

  24. E.... ....

@oceanbound222 Wow! That is unbelievable but believable at the same time. I think Oprah said it best Miss Ross has gotten a bad rap. And for what? Being a pioneer not only for blacks in pop music, but women period. It's a shame how much this woman is underrated as an artist.

  25. E.... ....

Wonderful job John! You really capture the beautiful orchestration. I've never really heard the Supremes "Funny Girl" album, but since you called it a horror I'm definitely intrigued to listen to it now.

  26. h.... ....

I absolutely loved this song from the album, and it was really the only one I loved, When Ross is good she's incredible. Again, I love the remix.

  27. T.... ....

    Gorgeous song & mix!
    I've missed it!
Diana really sang all out on this album!
Check out my post of "If A Girl Isn't Pretty", from the album: watch?v=JYS1KekuXys
You're, of course, more than welcome to post this clip as a response to that one.
    Thanks for re-posting.:)

i know what you mean about the album. It was like a rush job to get it out before the movie opened. One of my favorite songs of all time. Worn down one Funny Girl album on this song alone. This version is good, i heard Garland's version which i found a bit disappointing.
