Diana Ross - Only Love Can Conquer All Lyrics
They tell us it's better
That people should stay with their own kind
Divided by colour, afraid to be hurt by the other (yeah)
What if we try talking
We'll see we're the same on the inside
Let your love in
Only love can conquer all
Only love can break down the walls
Only love can conquer all
Only love (only love)
Only love (only love)
Oh yeah
The wheel keeps, keeps on turning
Rule the playground
The lines are all drawn into colours (yes)
What if we, we try harder
What if we reach out to each other (to each other)
Can't let it, can't let hatred rule
Let your love in
Let your love in
Only love can conquer all
Only love can break down the walls
Only love can conquer all
Only love (only love)
Only love (only love)
Oh yeah
Only love can conquer all
Only love can break down these walls
Only love can conquer all
Only love (only love)
Only love (only love)
Only love
(Only love)
Only love
(Only love)
Only only only
Only love
(Only love)
Only love
(Only love)
Only love

Nice song, Ms. Ross sang this on The Oprah Show years ago and did an Amazing job on it, that song came from a really nice CD of hers called Take Me Higher.

This was a beautiful album and so many great songs ~ got no radio play ~ pretty sad ~ this was so much better than other music during its release ~
Should have been nominated for GRAMMY ! TAKE ME HIGHER and VOICE OF THE HEART ❤️ CLASSIC !
This is another gem 💎 from this album
DIANA ROSS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fabulous song brilliantly sung
Nice Voices!
This song is what charlotte and all of America need right now. Only love ❤️
Kenneth H, you summed up the meaning of the Take Me Higher CD extremely well. The only slight disagreement was on Gone. I recognized that beautiful GEM right off the Ripp. I'm glad that you caught on to this nice slow GROOVE and RECOGNIZED! You have nice taste and appreciation of what good music is all about. This is in the top three of her all best time CDS. The Diana LP in 1980 and the Boss in 1979 LP ranks only higher and trust me, the Boss Album barely beats it out. It's only because Ashford and Simpson were/are just outstanding songwriters. They did a great job ending the 70's era.
I agree that the "Take Me Higher" album was seriously underrated. Properly promoted, the title song should have been a big hit. I think Ms. Ross' performance on the beautiful "I Thought That We Were Still In Love" is one of her best ever,. This song and "I Never Loved A Man" are both wonderful ballads, but also completely different. I was pleased to see her cover "I Will Survive," and she and the producers went a step further and reinvented it in with a more contemporary arrangement, and produced a song that both honors and expands upon the original. The song has a great video that features RuPaul and a number of other drag queens and ends with Ms. Ross literally diving into a jubilant West Hollywood crowd.. Several individuals have also posted videos of the DR concert in New Jersey a couple of years ago at the end of which she introduced and paid tribute to Gloria Gaynor -- then the two performed "I Will Survive" together. It produces a thrilling show business moment, even more so because health problems mostly prevent Ms. Gaynor from working at this point in her life. It was a generous gesture for Ms. Ross to invite her to perform and arrange the logistics which allowed her to participate. She topped that by allowing Ms. Gaynor to perform most of the closing concert number, and it is a moment to remember. When you watch the videos you can see just how much Ms. Ross enjoys a nd admires Ms. Gaynor's talent.
One final note about the "Take Me Higher" album. When I first listened to it, my least favorite number was "Gone." But, over time, its repetitive lyrics and note patterns cast a spell of some sort over me, and caused me to change my opinion of the song. Today,, Taylor Swift, Beyonce and other artistss use this "earworm" technique frequently and successfully. That means that in 1995, Ms. Ross was once again ahead of her time with respect to setting musical trends. Listen to "Gone" a couple of times and see if it begins to insinuate itself into your brain. Amazingly, when "Take Me Higher" was recorded, Ms. Ross had been an international star for more than 30 years. To release such a fresh and memorable album at that point in her career was a remarkable accomplishment,, and there was plenty more still to come.
there wasn't an obvious hit on the take me higher album, it certainly shouldn't have been the title track which was not something anyone would want to hear more than once. Gone & If you're not going to love me right " were the only tracks that had any potential. Her vocals were good on nearly every track however.
whatigot2say , I agree with you about If You Are Not Gonna Love Me Right and Gone being the top songs on the CD. However, you are drastically wrong about other obvious songs. Don't Stop, Voices of the Heart, and Keep It Right There, were all worthy of notoriety and should have been mentioned in that category. I'm not going to even mention the Title release Take Me Higher. This is Ross 3rd best CD of all time in my eyes Behind the Diana LP in 1980 and the Boss LP in 1979. This body of work was flawless. It's only because the music industry changed and given her age the industry would not allow her to shine on radio. However, you know, she has always shined in clubs. This entire CD was played at the clubs at least in Detroit's night life in 1995 thru 1996. They played just about everything off this CD. It was the Groove. GREAT MUSIC is not defined by airplay, but defined by people who really has a real knack on what Good Music really is. I have met very popular DJ'S in Detroit, Chicago, and Philadelphia, and they have acknowledged that her music was the jam, but they were not permitted to play it because they were told to play Mariah, Whitney, and other female artist that were under the age of 50. She was discriminated against because of America' s stupid Industry policies. I'm surprised you are falling in this category. I think you are smart enough to know better. Stop hating and give her cuodos because you know she's bad. MJ told us that.
