Diana Ross - Little Girl Blue Lyrics
When I was very young
The world was younger than I
As merry as a carousel
The circustent was strong
Above the ring I loved so well
Now the young world has grown old
Gone are the tinsle and gold
Sit there and count your fingers
What can you do?
Oh girl you're through
All you can count on are your fingers
Unlucky little girl blue
Sit there and count the raindrops
Falling on you
It's time you knew
All you can count on are the raindrops
That fall on little girl blue
No use oh girl
You may as well surrender
Your hope is getting slender
Why won't somebody send a tender blue boy
To cheer little girl blue

Diana Ross Little Girl Blue Comments
Awsome....#!!
My sister bought my first LP in 1973, Touch Me in the Morning by Diana Ross, and for a teenager who loved the Supremes, this album was a Wow moment for me, and this song although very soulful and poignant, was dreamy to me, and it became one of my all time favourites. Nina Simone performs a different version ... both superb!
I bought it too, I was 14
@Stephen Conlon So we were both around the same age when we first got this LP. Wow what a coincidence!
Classic!!
Still ClASSIC!!
The best !
Diana Ross is near peerless if.not just plan peerless singing these songs and singing these songs shows the great depth and versatility of voice and. Versatility of her ability of styling her voice on jazz, blues is bar non just beautiful when I first heard this recording back in 1975 I said damn she singing the hell out of that song it's one of my premere favorites of hers you go Diana
Ms.Ross' gift for phrasing is incomparable. I once saw an interview with Valerie Simpson in which she discussed how important this aspect of recording is to Ms. Ross. Laughing, Ms. Simpson said others involved in her recording sessions would often be frustrated with Ms. Ross for doing many retakes of a song or a specific phrase within a song so she could be sure to get the phrasing just right every time. Frustrated or not, Ms. Simpson said that when those involved would go back later and listen to the finished products, they would always realize that Ms. Ross had been right to insist on doing one more take to perfect an interpretation, because it always elevated the quality and the beauty of the material . A number of recordings -- My World Is Empty Without You, Upside Down, I Thought It Took A Little Time, I Thought That We Were Still In Love, Missing You, etc. -- show just how this talent for phrasing and enunciation has been used throughout her career to turn good songs into great recordings. This recording, with its poignant treatment of the lyric and its subtle shifts in pacing, is also among that group. It is a terrific performance.
+Kenneth Hamlett Terrific comment as always and a wonderful desciption of Diana's vocal prowess.
The masterful phrasing on "Someday We'll Be Together" is done with ad libs. This has got to be the most complicated as far as phrasing goes.
We had this Album.
how many SINGERS can go from THIS to 'why you wanna make me cry' to 'gershwin' to 'billie holiday' to 'amazing grace' to EVERYTHING MOTOWN? GOD ALMIGHTY BLESS, you, DIANA ROSS! THANK YOU for INSPIRING me STILL in JESUS name!!!
i heard this on blue album didnt know it had been released earlier, the blue one has diff intro.
despite all the DIRT that MOTOWN had (who are we to judge, because we ALL got DIRT under our rug), that institution was a GIFT from GOD ALMIGHTY. still INSPIRING me after so many years!!!!!!!!!!!!
@stevie68a yep, me too!
I bought this album for Touch Me In The Morning, but every song seemed to keep growing on me, whether due to her (Diana's) style, tone, inflections..but hey all took hold on me...especially this one...it never gets old!
Gorgeous. Yet I remember a different version, slightly speeded up, I think.
Anyway, one of her best.
So underrated. I remember singing this song on the floor while playing this record.
So smooth, like cashmere and cognac.
Thanks for posting.
