Diamond, Neil - Tennessee Moon Lyrics

Hollywood don't do what it once could do
I used to wake up
And write me a song before noon.
So I packed my dusty bags one night,
Grabbed an old guitar
And I caught a red-eye flight

In search of a dream underneath
The Tennessee moon
I fell in love to an old Hank Williams tune
Makes me wonder,
Is it the same moon Hank played under?

Touched down
And she stole my heart right away
Began to think for the first time
I might stay
And when I heard
That lonesome whistle moan
Knew I'd fin'ly found my way back home

In search of a dream underneath
The Tennessee moon
I fell in love to an old Hank Williams tune
And I wonder,
Is it the same moon Hank stood under
When he sang about jambalaya
And bein' lonesome enough to cry?

And I can hear the echoes
In the sounds of his guitar
And his words still paint
A picture in my heart

Yeah, in search of a dream underneath
The Tennessee moon
I fell in love to an old Hank Williams tune
I was in search of a dream underneath
The Tennessee moon,
Yes, I fell in love
To an old Hank Williams tune

A great upload of a wonderful song, the Tennessee Moon album is a fabulous album, a change of direction for Neil at the time, finally fulfilling a desire to record a country flavoured album in the home of country music, the quality of the songs were up to Neil's usual high standards, working and collaborating with some of country music's finest talents, Lyrically it was Neil's finest album in a long while at that time, with real poignant and soul searching songs, as well as some fabulous upbeat toe tapping numbers, "Gold Don't Rust" "Matter Of Love" and of course "Tennessee Moon", the real heartbreaker on the album was "Like You Do" a song that rips through you emotionally,

I remember at the time of release the promotional campaign hailed it as Neil Diamond's finest work in a long time, and 18 songs that already sound like classics, I have never shared the view that Neil Diamond suffered a severe lull in his career, he has always continued to turn out heartfelt and meaningful music, and in his later years has really tapped into his muse, his last three albums have all hit the mark, long may he continue to touch us with his wonderful gifts.

    D.... R....

Thanks so very much for your comments, I am truly appreciative. Your knowledge and insight into the life and times of Neil Diamond is staggering! You never fail to overwhelm me.

It would be great if you would put pen to paper and write a book on this great man. You would be doing us diehards an absolute favour. Based on your comments over the past year or so, you have an obvious gift and flair with words. Thanks again Dave. Best wishes, Doug

    Hi Doug,
Thank you for your wonderful reply and compliments, I have been a fan of Neil Diamond since being a young boy, where my musical tastes were older than my years, it was Neil's songwriting ability that first switched me on to him, and then seeing him live at the memorable Woburn Abbey concert of 1977 put a performance to those wonderful songs,

In the late 60's and early 70's Neil Diamond had established himself as possibly the most prolific songwriter around, aided with his unique and natural ability to interpret not just his own compositions but those of other notable artists and fellow songwriters, Cohen, Brel, Mitchell, Paxton, to name a few, I recall reading a comment by Jeff Barry who took Neil under his wing with wife Ellie Greenwich, where he said, "We were aware of Neil's great songwriting, but it was his unique and distinctive voice that captivated us, along with his brooding loner persona he presented, it worked a treat, his swarthy looks, and that deep rich baritone, he was music gold, added to his growing reputation as a great live performer he became hot as a pistol,

It is obvious why Neil Diamond has remained one of the most beloved music stars in the world, his natural talents, and his ability to connect with people, his audiences, and his appeal right across the music spectrum, I have never heard any negativity about Neil, I am sure he has his detractors, but they are usually those who don't get what Neil is about, I had the pleasure of meeting Neil in 1992, a very brief and impulsive act by myself, where having watched his show at Birmingham's NEC arena, Neil left the stage and passed my seat which was second row aisle seat, he had performed in the round, and had to pass where I sat, I stood up and thrust out my hand in a handshake gesture, and stated, "Great Show Neil" he reciprocated by shaking my hand and gave thanks, and stated, he loved coming to England, we have some of our greatest fans here, and it's a pleasure to put our show on for you, thank you for attending, and hope to see you at another of our performances, he was then ushered away to the confines of his dressing room, Neil Diamond is a genuinely sincere man, and equally humble despite his status as being one of the most famous people on the planet,

I always said if I was to ever appear on Mastermind, a television quiz show where contestants answer questions on their chosen specialist subject, mine would be the life and career of Neil Leslie Diamond, as for writing a book about this enigmatic man, I really don't know, although I have plenty of information to tap into, but equally plenty more research would be needed, it's an interesting thought, and one that I wouldn't rule out.

    Thank you again.

    D.... R....

Hi Dave, You've done it again, my friend. Blown away … yet again! You’re a diamond mine of information; a vault with much to share. You simply have to put pen to paper not for yourself, but for us Diamond diehards and for posterity … While we wait …

Have you had a chance to view my videos uploaded on either side of my ‘Tennessee Moon’ video?

Wholly concur with your sentiments about Neil being a truly earnest and modest human being. I might even add a down-to-earth and simple man. One of his earliest tweets following his split with Rachel Farley was a video of a clam, Clamper, he picked up from his beachfront home. This simple tweet had a great impact on me. I remember thinking, here is this superstar a legend in the purest form of the word being so very down-to-earth and of such simple taste. Refreshing…

So Dave, please ... we wait ...

    D.... R....

Thanks for your comment Ron, Neil's ability to do Country all the way is Rock with the greatest of ease is renowned; for such is the ability and gift of the man. For this reason the entertainment industry has, over the years, had great difficulty in "pigeon-holing" him.
