Diamond, Neil - Childsong (Reprise) Lyrics

I'm 80 now, and I over the years I have appreciated "most" musical genres. If I had to choose a single vinyl disk to take with me, It would be the Tap Root Manuscript. My second choice would be something that included the best of the Eagles. And, of course my musical psyche was influenced most by Elvis. When it comes to music, I was born at a very good time.

Had to revisit this. I will always love this. My grand daughters 4th grade class used Childsong in a school play. They were good. Neil's music transcends the generational gap beautifully.

Neil's music does indeed transcend the ages. This very song helped neglected, severely handicapped, orphans of dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu's Romania come out their shells. Their innocent voices echoing this beautiful song. Best wishes, Doug

Good job, sharing Mr. Diamond's thoughts that flooded his heart and motivated his remarkable homage to Africa, the cradle of life and the birthplace of gospel music.
These words were shared on the back cover of the album that grew out of his passion for gospel and so-called black music.

His special "Taproot Manuscript" album was sort of his "Graceland" album, predating Paul Simon's Grammy Award winning opus by many years however.

I LOVE this album and this song is very special.

Thanks for your comments Gary. 'Taproot Manuscript' is indeed, like 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull', a masterpiece. The difference between 'Taproot Manuscript' Paul Simon's 'Graceland' being, that unlike 'Graceland', 'Taproot Manuscript' was not a commercial venture. Neil's record company initially rejected the concept for its lack of commercial value. Thankfully, Neil was in the 70s the world's #1 Star, he was able to exert pressure on them to release the album. Incidentally, Neil produced this album some 16 years before Paul Simon's 'Graceland'. Later to be followed by Sting.

Listening to the beautiful children sing, makes me teary eyed, and I remember being a child and singing like I didn't have a care in the world. Have always, and will always love this combination.

How come Neil does not say the words in childsong

Thanks for your query. I guess, a the title suggests it is _'Childsong'._ The pure, unadulterated chorus of childhood innocence is breathtaking. You may not be aware that this little song was used by a volunteer in Romania, following the fall of dictator and tyrant Nicolae Ceaușescu, to assist severely handicapped and neglected orphans. She played this song daily and it helped draw them out of themselves on their road to a semblance of recovery following years of neglect and abuse.

Good morning NDC; In his own testimony why he became a Cristian, Messianic Jewish, he declared his parents escaped WWII, from Hungary arriving Argentina and then Bolivia. You see in youtube that exist certain phisical similarities between them.

Besides there was in the Europe history an empire called "Imperio Austrohungaro" that went forward even Germany and Poland.

I really do pity the people who gave Neil Diamond's music a thumbs down, I grew up on his music, Tap Root Manuscript was my favorite album, I saved a lot of his songs on my phone, I also saved to scenes from the Jazz Singer the Cantor scene and the scene America, I had forgotten that one was after the other.

What does the Hebrew word Soolaimon mean?

Neil Diamond's song of that name is described as a variation of the word Salamah, meaning Hello and Welcome as well as Good-bye and peace be with you, in many languages." :kick:

It is the Arabic form of Solomon, derived from the semitic root salam, meaning "peace." In Hebrew it is "shalom".
