Dia Frampton - Billy The Kid Lyrics

Now once upon a time when the West was old
A ma saw her son was a sight to behold
He could shoot his daddy's gun like a straight arrow
He wrestled with the rattlesnakes before he walked
Ya, he grew up fast with a hardened grit
And he had the pluck and he had the wit
Ya his mamma called him William till he up and quit
And in these here parts he's known as Billy the Kid

I've had you in my sights, my arms for so long.
Where did you go? I didn't know.
I've been around here waiting for so long, so long
And I'll wait for you.

He was as tough as nails, barging in the saloon
Missing an eye, gun glowed in the moon
He called out to the crowd, "I don't want no fuss.
See, I'm looking for a runaway, who looks like this!"
And he slammed the paper down, it was covered in dust,
But the crowd kept silent, sure, he looked real tough,
But they knew the portrait well, and they knew not to,
Mess with Billy the Kid and his gang of thugs

I've had you in my sights, my arms for so long.
Where did you go? I didn't know.
I've been around here waiting for so long, so long
And I'll wait for you.

The sheriff knocked on the door of a pretty girl
Tipped his hat, said, "We gotta have a look around.
We'll give you cash if you tip off the fugitive."
She bit her lip, she was in love and acted clueless.
He grabbed her arm and said, "We heard you been a harborin'.
Give him up, I give my word I'll keep your name clean."
She steered 'em clear of the cracks in the floorboards and
Said, "You'll never find him, you'll never find him!"

I've had you in my sights, my arms for so long.
Where did you go? I didn't know.
I've been around here waiting for so long, so long
And I'll wait for you.

Unfortunately pure dia wasnt working for meg and dia so its time for them to get help from people who have made it. I dont mind it at all, I think it has a nice tune. I do hope she writes more personal songs though rather than ones about books or history

I have listened to her older stuff, often. That's why I kind of wanted a bit more of the old Dia, and less "here's co-writer x's take on Dia."

  19. k.... ....

Not really. I Have some of their previous songs.

  20. m.... ....

Are you new to Dia's music/Meg and Dia?

  21. k.... ....

I love the song, but I hate the image she gives Billy the Kid. Seriously, Billy was nothing like how he is portrayed. Billy was a social (a bit of a flirt) 19-21 year-old who really only killed 4-9 people (all in self-defense) and loved to dance. He never was a bad kid, he just could never settle down and get a job because of all the false rumors about him.

  22. D.... P....

Gah! The end creeps me out every time!

  23. A.... M....

My favorite song from the whole album. How are people even talking shit about this song? are you mad?

  24. s.... ....

this is my favorite song off the album. the music is just awesome.

  25. u.... ....

@tallwhiteninja I kind of disagree. Of course the first album released by any singing-star competitor will be a mismatch of influences and genres (does anyone remember how disjointed Kelly Clarkson's first album was?). I think the album works with the various influences because Dia's prominence still parades through each song and commands the production and writing skills. Yes, this song lacks the earthy, homecooked Dia that most fans are familiar with, but it's a great example of growth.

  26. G.... B....

    @morookelkaymic

Dia is not a new artist. She's just new to the mainstream.

She's been making music with her sister for about 6 or 7 years and she has several albums out

  27. M.... W....

Dia is a new artists. They might be just seeing what she sound good at or see what people like about her? To get her further into the game

  28. n.... C....

@tallwhiteninja Well, in order for an artist to grow, they need to experiment with different styles. And maybe she was a lot more involved with this song that we think, after all, I'm sure that it takes more than being someone's fan to really know them.

  29. L.... F....

    @lettersfromyesterday so do i!!!! i love how it's a story being told! :)

  30. L.... F....

love this!!!!!!!!! it's probably my favourite song on her cd!

  31. n.... i....

Her voice is beautiful,as beautiful as always, but its..not right.I'm not sure about the background music.

  32. x.... ....

@tallwhiteninja I agree about this song...

  33. t.... ....

My one complaint with the album; as amazing as Dia is, on a few of the songs she let her co-writers' influence overpower hers. This song's probably the biggest example: it's basically a Foster the People song (it was co-written by Mark Foster) being sung by Dia Frampton. It leads to a somewhat disjointed album with too many different influences and not enough pure Dia. Still, I like Foster the People, and I'd listen to Dia singing the phone book.

  34. o.... ....

    I totally agree with lettersfromyesterday

  35. K.... C....

i'm addicted to this song :) Dia is amazing. she can really paint a picture and tell a story through her songs. i can almost imagine a video playing to her songs when i listen to them :)
