Dexys Midnight Runners - The Occasional Flicker Lyrics

No, I don't want sympathy,
I just want somewhere for these sins to go
Compromise is the devil talking and he spoke to me

He mentioned something of moving in,
I conversed once with him and yes
He related to me how necessity is evil's mother
He has no father,
only victims weak or strong.
I hope this won't take long

I was right the first time,
I'll put it right with thirst now

Well, you might say I'm trying to redeem myself and in a way
I think that's true, but I'm just trying to bite off more than those
That chew more than I do

You could say that I'm a bitter man
and once again, I think that's true,
I will remain so until I better those
that know more than I do
It kind of reminds me of that burning feeling
I used to get
What?
You know, that little problem I used to get What
Are you still getting trouble with this?
Yeah, not all the time or anything
Like it was?
Yeah, sometimes
Are you sure it's not heartburn?
No, it's definitely not heartburn
It's just a little matter of a burning,
a little matter of a burning nature
It's not arson, it's not arson
It's OK it's my problem I'll deal with it myself

without a doubt the finest of all Dexys brilliant, one of my life albums

Good lord. This is also great

Vincent Crane should bring you here. The albums lack of sales was entirely due to the petulant Mr Rowland not doing any PR and trying to stop anything being released from it. The generous record deals allowed him to be creative, yet he was denying them their reson detre, to make money, which is what record companies are for!

  4. E.... M....

The music is good but is he saying real words?

    E.... M....

ar, but wiv a Burmingum axunt!

    E.... M....

It's really not a Birmingham accent it's just his arbitrary vocal inflections. You'll notice when he talks he doesn't slur or vibrato like when he sings.

  5. J.... P....

I wish I had his voice its so amazing

Another unfairly neglected crucial selection saved to YouTube byThe Soul Stylist.
All hail and thanks and praise to Saarf London's inimitable & all-knowing music master ! !
He's just trying to keep the music from dying.

This is the best DMR album. Sadly few people appreciate this song which in my opinion is even better than What is she like. Is there a song clip for the occasional flicker? Thank you for posting this great song from this amazing album.

Well, the album was co-produced by Alan Winstanley who worked on most of the Madness records from this era.
