Devo - Mechanical Man Lyrics

I'm a mechanical man
I'm a mechanical man

Two mechanical arms
Two mechanical legs
I'm a 2 + 2 = 4 man

I'm a mechanical man
I'm a mechanical man
I'm a mechanical man
I'm a mechanical man

I'm a mechanical man
I'm a mechanical man

Two mechanical arms
Two mechanical legs
I'm a 2 + 2 = 4 man

Me feel swell
Me work well
Me want what you want

Me feel swell
Me work well
Me want what you got

Me feel swell
Me work well
Me want what you want

Me feel swell
Me work well
Me want what you got

Me feel swell
Me work well
Me want what you want

the spud boys have always been my favorite group the keybord player for the tubes wanted to jump ship and be in devo. i would go to lookout management and just hang around the office on sunset when billy gerber was there manager. i saw them at all the la shows. at the santa monica civic this new company paid them to record there concert it was called mtv but the recording did not turn out well so it never aired. i remember there show at the wiltern and wall if vodoo open for them. there was a problem with the film portion of the song out of synch and it messed up the show for 20 mins. i love this group .

    C.... T....

  13. P.... J....

I just noticed something... this sounds like music that belongs in Jazzpunk.

    P.... J....

then did DEVO invent the genre ?

    P.... J....

    @***** ~~
Oh.............I would not be surprised if there is jazzpunk......well looky here.....

  14. A.... P....

i'm very sure devo doesn't exist.

    A.... P....

I agree. Repeated searches of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum have failed to turn up any evidence that Devo ever existed.

    A.... P....

Alistair Phelan actually this is the only thing that exists

  15. S.... Y....

Great song! Kind of a brostep (or hardcore dubstep) vibe going on in this track.

    S.... Y....

@Maxwell M. If I can be serious for a moment. I would like to say that if the young uns think that brostep is bombastic and noisy they should hear the works of Merzbow, Masonna, Whitehouse, and The Gerogerigegege. Now that's bombastic and noisy! I am also diggin The Residents profile pic you have.

  16. L.... J....

And they say mainstream is shit...

  17. T.... ....

This is one of the few "Hardcore" tracks to be recorded in a professional studio. They asked the engineer if he could make the guitar sound smaller, and he thought they were nuts.

    T.... ....

Are you serious? Where'd you find this info?

    T.... ....

@Maxwell M. On p.79 of the biography "We Are Devo," Bob Lewis says "MM" and "Smart Patrol" were recorded in a state-of-the-art 16-track studio in Cleveland called "Audio Recording.'

    T.... ....

@Turtle152 wow! maybe Devo was looking to press a single... now that I'd want to see!

    T.... ....

When does this recording date to? I read somewhere it was recorded as early as 1974-75.

    T.... ....

Yes, it has to be from '74-'75, since Jim Mothersbaugh was still the drummer.

  18. i.... ....

R.I.P. Bob Casale, we hardly knew ye.

  19. G.... M....

Don't understand why so few plays. Waste of a good song!

  20. N.... A....

it can't call as music, just an idiot people who think and fell this ears sickles sound

    N.... A....

Novarna Agus That can’t be called language

    N.... A....

    Zachary Morin Fuck off

  21. D.... H....

DEVO kicks major ass.... always has.... always will!

  22. M.... D....

I know, and they're my favorites in the discography. "Mechanical Man", though, you have to admit, is a VERY devo song.

  23. M.... D....

Devo usually got blank stares and anger from the audience during their formative era.
I, for one, consider this to be the ultimate and most hardcore Devo song. It makes all the other songs look wimpy. And if those songs received hostility and blank stares, this song would probably have put audiences into hospitals with various psychological disorders.

    M.... D....

They had their fans, too. I don't think the audience knew what to make of DEVO when they played out in the 70s, and they were divisive. And I think that's the reaction any Rock'n'Roll band should strive for, to invoke passionate love or hatred. It suggests you're on the cusp of something new and exciting.

  24. H.... E....

I can't imagine how insane this would've sounded back in 1974-75 - before punk became big.

  25. w.... ....

Absolute bloody class! Sounds as fresh today as it ever did. Devo were the business for social satire, comedy, and for songs still relevant in today's world.

  26. C.... ....

    Best Devo track

  27. W.... ....

Love this early experimental stuff! SPUD HEAD FOREVER!

  28. p.... ....

I remember buying this bootleg ep in 1978. The thing i love about this record is if you're listening to it in ordinary L/R stereo, 2. speakers, move your speaker settings over to the right all the way, listen to the bass only with vocals, all the way over to the left and its cat synth/ distorted guitar and vocals. I had a Ferguson record player that had a faulty speaker so i used to alternate between listening to the right and left channel.

  29. t.... ....

it doesnt offend me at all

  30. t.... ....

    im an american idiot

  31. N.... ....

whenever my dogs here this song, they go crazy, thinking they hear a cat. ;-)

  32. F.... ....

    Best Devo tune ever.
