Devo - All Of Us Lyrics

I left home with a friend of mine
Gone two years and I don't know why
Now I’m happy all the time
I don’t think and I’m feeling fine

I got feelings but they don't show
Don't ask me cause I don't know
No, no
No, no, no

All of us
All of us
All of us

Think you've heard this all before
Now you're gonna hear some more
I know a place where dreams are crushed
Hopes are smashed but that ain't much

All you stupids anyway
We're all gonna die some day
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

All of us
All of us
All of us

All of us
All of us
All of us

Me leave home with Booji Boy
Teeth fall out of China doll
Poo-poo man got jiffy-snipped
Bad girl laughing, floppy tits

Listen, listen, me no lie
We like stuff what makes us cry
Why, why
Why, why?

All of us
All of us
All of us
All of us
All of us
All of us
All of us

Devo All Of Us Comments

What's interesting is how I hear a little early 70's Alice Coope via, Rocket From The Tombs; influence all through many of Ohio's second wave of proto-punk progenitors' song material. I guess that is why I like early Devo so much. Plus, being as that I was somewhat steeped in listening to quite a bit of Alice Cooper (and Stooges, via WLLZ and WRIF FM radio) while growing up in the Detroit area not only means that it has grown on me quite a bit, but would also no doubt make me biased, too.

Does anyone have any idea what the chords are for that little riff at 0:25 ? The rest of the song was easy to figure out but I can’t seem to figure out what they are playing there and it’s really bothering me. Thank you in advance to anyone who actually has an answer for this.

    E.... ....

If you're playing it tuned half a step down, in D#, like it is here: G-G-F-A-A-A-F, all major barre chords.

If you're playing it in standard tuning, in E, it's the same except one step up: G#-G#-F#-A#-A#-A#-F#

Listen to the '74-'75 demo also up on the channel. You can hear the progression a tiny bit better.

Marxism Noidism thanks a ton man!

A sui generis band indeed. One of a kind.

Does anyone here have an idea on JUST what these lyrics mean? Because I've just sort of made a connection between the lyrics and the events at Kent State that Gerry experienced first hand... which would make this song very sad. :(

    T.... ....

    its about sex! hahaha

    T.... ....

Jerry used to write songs from the perspective of a character called Gorj, "he who was not always thus". A very mentally tortured individual, just trying to keep it together. I'd imagine this is one of those songs.

  5. T.... ....

Is there a live version of this song anywhere?

    T.... ....

Not that I know of, unfortunately.

    Unless they release DEVO

+KidFlersh Or The Pink Flamingos performance from 1975.

  6. K.... ....

this is an early version of Going Under!

    K.... ....

+KidFlersh This version is more badass by far.

    K.... ....

+KidFlersh This version would have made New Traditionalists an even better album.

    Favorite HARDCORE song

    +Imdone13 Gaming Agreed

This sounds like it could be a Mudhoney b-side. Devo were years ahead of their time.

First off, I love this song and I always have.  Recently I heard a Gary Glitter song that I had never heard before and I froze my in tracks.  Listen to how it starts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LYiH_DhB8k

@Shane Hickey indeed the first 20 or so seconds sound like an ultra-glam-rocky version of All of Us. I'd have no problem with this if not for the fact that Gary Glitter is a goddamn pedophile.

I guess I can take solace in knowing "All of Us" dates back to 1974... which is six years before the Glitter song was released.

    S.... H....

But how did he know this song existed when it was released (counting out bootlegs) in 1991?

    Illuminati CONFIRMED.

Shane Hickey If you heard this all before, now you're gonna hear some more

  10. R.... ....

For my money, this is hands-down the BEST song DEVO EVER put out.

That chorus is absolutely killer. I often wish this song was longer...

  11. j.... ....

    been waiting for this

    You're welcome!
They're re-releasing 'Hardcore Devo', the record this song appeared on, in late July/mid August.
