The first Ziltoid is maybe my favourite album of his, after the unequalled Synchestra. Love this song! One of the few who still does something "progressive".

Devin is just a son of a beast! I just find his playing and singing skills synchronized beyond amazing with such showmanship

I listen with decent headphones and am now listening to the Spotify version. Yes, the drums are loud on YT, but it really doesn't sound much different with headphones on Spotify. I personally love louder drums, and think 90% of music has the guitars way too loud and the bass might as well not exist in a lot of bands. So this sound is about perfect to my ears!

Just a heads up that these youtube uploads have some kind of bastardised sterio version of the 5.1 surround sound mix by mistake, Dev was pretty bummed about it on twitter the other day. Spotify/CD/DVD all sound way nicer.

Update on the 5.1 to stereo thing! Dev is looking to have the video reuploaded properly!

Devin explained the YouTube videos got a poor mix because it was a 5.1 mix converted to stereo, not the proper stereo mix. It sounds way better on Spotify or the DVD itself.

SPRED THE WORD - for all of you disliking the mix so much, calm down, it was a bit of a mistake by converting the stereo, don't give up purchasing the whole DVD, it sounds how it is supposed to sound there! :)




I personally don't mind it so much, but hey, if you were bummed about it, now you know. Don't blame Dev, shit happens :)

For everyone tripping out about the mix, Devin just said on his Twitter account that it was mixed in 5.1, but YouTube screwed up the audio (converting it from 5.1 to 2.0) while it was being uploaded. They might re-upload it. The mix is NOT supposed to sound this way.

Anxiously waiting for my limited edition blu ray art book copy. In the meantime I did a stupid thing and listened to some of the songs on iTunes JUST to hear if ol’ Dev maybe had some trouble with his crazy vocal highlights in the songs that were played, like Deadhead last verse, Bastard, Funeral etc. I know it was silly to question a god, he definitely still has it being the insanely talented guy he is 😁.

Also can I just say that damnnnn the orchestra works so well to the point that it’s breathed so much new life in the songs and that I would be totally fine with playing them on their own, in the car for instance hah.

For the people complaining I can safely say the version currently on Spotify sounds great. Everything is mixed perfectly or at least in my opinion.

RVP is all over the place ins this one

Your pretty much getting a centre mix of a 5.1 mix which means all the wide instrument that will be panned (guitars and orchestra) are less noticeable but the drums and vocals which are typically instruments that are dead center of a mix (with some panning on the drums for stereo field) are the only ones that are audible. Blu ray is absolutely amazing quality. I had 5.1 headphones on and there is tonnes of width in the panning

Just did an A/B between YouTube and Spotify. The mixes are different. As a wise commenter said, this mix comes from a 5.1 to stereo down mix, the surrounds are getting lost in the down mix (Same thing happens with a movie's score when you watch blu-ray films with 5.1 surround on stereo speakers.)

The Spotify mix is great, everything is heard and huge! No use complaining about this mix
