Destroyer - Girl In A Sling Lyrics

Two stars
Three stars
The night sky above
Used to mean everything
To horses in love
Girl in a sling

How come
Your eyes come
In and out of focus
In the park all alone?
Early spring
Girl in a sling

[x2]
I've been sifting through these remains for years
Bitter tears, bitter pills
Oh, it sucks when there's nothing but gold in those hills
Girl, I know what you're going through
I'm going there too
Girl, I know what you're going through
I'm going there too

I'm going there too
I'm going there too, ah
I'm going there too
I'm going there too, ah
I'm going there

Logic mentioned this in his song ''The Jam''

''I've been living like a king
    I ain't worried 'bout a thing
I just been bumpin' that Destroyer "Girl in a Sling"
That's the type of shit I bring''

I'm obsessed with this song. I listen to it, and then I do something else.
The thing is, I always return to this song. And everytime I hear it, I'm not so sure why I like it that much.

Hipsters: "Oh, Bejar has a Vevo channel now, let's stop listenning to Destroyer"

  14. G.... ....

love this album. the strings are awesome

  15. M.... R....

The guy is a true poet, what can you do? Surrender to his lyrics. He speaks of self sabotage, fear, depression in such an easy breesy way. He is self referential in such an elegant way. Been listening to him for years and I always find a connection to whatever he says.

  16. L.... W....

This gave me wavvvves after wavvvvvvves of chills!

  20. o.... ....

    ...great... :)

  21. w.... ....

Perhaps this just isn't my style, because while I enjoy the theatrical way in which the lyrics and mood of the song are communicated, I just came out feeling pretty unaffected. It literally felt like one big, 3 minute and 4 second blah.

  22. E.... ....

10% dislike ratio...kind of high for a video like this lol

    E.... ....

+EyMeng It might be a bit over the dislikers' heads.

  23. m.... ....

reminds me of those moments when a character breaks down into a music section in those disney movies lol

  24. a.... ....

    oh fuck oh f

  25. C.... M....

There is some "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in there.  Tricky.

    C.... M....

I just imagine how beautiful and spooky this song would sound with a Theremin in the background.

  26. R.... L....

He is so underrated it's sickening.

  27. S.... B....

This kicks ass, didn't expect it to

  28. Y.... G....

I really like this song, but this is also one of the rare instances where the video makes it even better, in my opinion.  Interesting photographic accompaniment to the song, with the photographs incorporating a 'new topographics' style of the houses and urban ruins.  Beautiful all around.  Welcome back, Destroyer.

  30. R.... R....

    Beautiful.

  31. N.... ....

First ten seconds hooks the listener, this song was pour silence during that time.

  32. M.... P....

    The singing needs improvement

    M.... P....

    No it doesnt

  33. C.... M....

The Shiner beer dude haunts my dreams...

+Randolph Lautsch that's one of my favorite lines of his

  35. l.... t....

This lullaby would put anyone straight to sleep. Wish this guy would cover some Disney songs, he would be perfect for them.

  36. C.... C....

Una gran canción, muy diferente a todo lo echo por Dan Bejar anteriormente y aun sonando muy a su manera

  37. F.... o....

Seeing the words "Destroyer" & "Girl" had me thinking some dirty thoughts

  38. F.... N....

    THOSE ARE MY HANDS :D

  39. B.... L....

  42. T.... C....

Destroyer is a modern concept of unconcept modern music. whos will dance with me?

  43. g.... ....

Was that a cameo by Joseph Gordon Levitt ?! And why is there no 'undecided' thumb on youtube? Where do you buy darkroom stuff these days?

Dan Bejar is a freaking genius!

  47. H.... ....

Listen to "Girl In A Sling" on HighClouds webradio: http://highclouds.org/

  48. R.... J....

Dan Bejar always does something different with each of his albums. This song kinda reminds me of the stuff on "Your Blues", except there is real instrumentation rather than MIDI instrumentation.

My God, so freaking beautiful, just pre-ordered both the cd and the vinyl off Amazon right after hearing this.  I liked Kaputt, but I'm actually glad that Dan Bejar didn't go for a Kaputt part 2 with this record from the sounds of things.  Looking forward to both this and the upcoming Tame Impala album, which I also preordered both cd and vinyl for.  Great time for good music <3<3.

@Christopher Flagg I've certainly never heard of any of those bands... I'll be sure to give them a listen. I have a few My Bloody Valentine albums but that's as far as I ever ventured into shoegaze. I very much enjoyed early(-ish) electronica such as Music has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada and M83's Red Seas, Dead Cities & Lost Ghosts... Digital Shades was pretty good too.

    C.... F....

@tim watley In that case, you'd probably like Orbital's 90's output, especially In-Sides and Middle of Nowhere. If you like some weirdness injected in with your electronica, Aphex Twin will scratch that itch. DJ Shadow's Endtroducing is a good time as well, though his output gets really spotty in subsequent releases. If you wish to venture a little older, Kraftwerk's stuff is pretty satisfying as well.

    C.... F....

@Christopher Flagg Thank you sir for the album suggestions, I'll be sure to listen to all of them. Somewhat off topic but I'm re-listening to Dean Blunt's Black Metal from last year...what a fantastic album.

    C.... F....

+Christopher Flagg I didn't "get" Kaputt and associated EPs, they were absolutely NOTHING at all like anything he had done, which is nice for critical appreciation but it's just like listening to two different artists other than the vocal style. All of his other albums made sense as a body of work, whereas I can fully see how someone could love Kaputt and absolutely hate everything else he's ever done. Just a strange choice, sort of taking the piss I imagine. This is a guy who worships Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, etc. and he does an album of overproduced 80s smooth jazz pop? I think it was a little trolling experiment in the midst of the chillwave fad that worked a little too well and he ended up embarrassed by it. That's the vibe I get from his interviews in the topic.

Don't forget about Frank Ocean's album coming soon!
