Descendents - Schizophrenia Lyrics

It's dark outside, I'm riding alone
But I know the road
Can't even see ahead of my nose
But I know the road
A little scared, but I know where to go
Cuz I know the road
I can do it by feel, take it real slow
I know the road

Hold on
Hold on
A fork in the road
Life in transition
Hold on
Hold on
Moving too fast
In the wrong direction
Hold on
Hold on
Gotta feel the road
Know my position

Break the speakers
Crack the books
Over you shoulder
Not another look
Burn off the shackles
Of a wooden past
Melt through the ice
Be free at last
Dare to be stupid
Dare to smell
You can be crazy
You can be hell
The end result
Is always the same
Whichever you choose
You lose
You're insane

Granite poured into my veins
Black hole explodes in my brain
The accident is to blame

You say you're going insane
Say it like you mean it, man
I wish I could, but I can't

You say that life is a pain
It isn't for me, man
I don't feel anything at all

Shield myself from the world
Hold everything inside
Fold my arms across my chest

Shield the world from myself
Make sure the sleeves are tied
Wrap my arms across my chest

Death is my life
Life is my Death
Lay my arms across my chest

I know the road
I know where it goes
I know the road
I know where it goes
Don't tell me what I already know
I know where it goes
That's why I'm going so slow

+Veselin Manojlović: Absolutely bro. Let's go drink a few Pabst at the frat house and discuss this deeply intellectual subject. Bwahahaaaaaa

I looked at the watch mojo top 10 punk bands and the DESCENDENTS were not on the list!!!! WTF!!!

    S.... 1....

    Watchmojo ain't god

Milo said in an interview this song makes him cringe today. Not one of their best, but great. I still don't get what's wrong with it.

  3. S.... C....

    any tabs?

  4. S.... L....

The only thing Descendants ever did wrong was affiliate them selves with Warped-tour. Fuck Warped-Tour.

  5. J.... T....

    Eggerton wrote some awesome shit!!

  6. S.... M....

What type of "Punk" would this be considered?

    S.... M....

There is no such thing as technical death punk, but based on the :-P face you made, I assume you are joking.

    S.... M....

Of course there's no such thing as tech-death punk. The opening riff, dissonance and song structure is reminiscent of those in technical and progressive (death) metal songs. So you know - technical death punk. Funny, eh?

    S.... M....

@Veselin Manojlović Death metal is progressive much like the way aggressive cancer can be progressive.

Growling unintelligibly into a mic for 5 mins while the rest of the band tries to play as fast as possible, often resorting in the musical notes coming out sounding like Gnarled midi garbage.

"Progressive" Metal peaked right around Venom and King Diamond's era.

Shit, Type-O negative was far more disturbing than any death metal band I've ever heard and you could actually understand what Steele was saying and he didn't have to scream as loud as he could just to be heard of the shitty Lead guitarist and the drummer who has almost no since of rhythm. I know, Doom-Metal isn't the same as Death-Metal, but still.

That's not to say every death metal band is like that, but a lot of the modern ones are.

To sum up my point: Death-Metal is a shittier version of thrash with the same "Edge" that is famous with Black-Metal. Which the only Thrash metal anything I care anything for is Gwar's Surf of syn, but that's more Beach metal.

Although there's not really a point behind defending Black/Death/Thrash metal anyways since all three were created out of irony, to be as awful as possible. In fact, that is what I found appealing about Thrash, it was true punk all over again. You didn't have to be good, being bad just made it better.

But, that very same reason is why punk fell as you are starting to see happen with trash. Bands would eventually get to what would be considered "Good" about that genre and the formulaic bands would start popping up everywhere.

(As we saw with third wave punk. Completely devoid of any meaning and instead is formulaic and stripped of soul. ow it's all Tenn agonist and rebellion, a mere shadow of what it once was.)

*Edit:* Small edit, changed the wording when it came to my comparison to punk and thrash. Lost train of thought and made a small sentence that made literally no sense.

@danielscissorhands: Shit is either punk, or it's not. For instance: Descendants, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Butthole Surfers, Suicidal Tendencies, MDC, Fang; is all punk. Even though each of those bands has their own distinct sound. They were the Forefathers. Blink 192, Green Cream Day, and most post- 80's rock that claims "punk influences" (punk influences...haHAAAA) is NOT punk. As Mike Muir of ST said, "If you're not now, you never were". I think we're on the same page dude.

I actually find this song incredibly catchy.

What's so funny about it? O.o

  9. m.... ....

Wow its really pretty crazy how much 80's punk and thrash sound really similar but different at the same time. This sounds like if Voivod went jazz/punk instead of jazz/prog metal

  10. -.... -....

lmao funny cool song, not super catchy, but i guess that isnt the point of this song. totally sounds like audial schizophrenia, haha

  11. T.... ....

    prog. punk ?

    T.... ....

    Yes, weird huh?

  12. z.... ....

this is a weird descendents song but i love it

    z.... ....

Punk IS weird. If any punk band hasn't done something weird like this, then they aren't punk

  13. S.... P....

  15. A.... L....

This totally sounds like it could be from Black Flag's 'In My Head.'

Bill wrote it for BF but never used it for that band.

@muler321-growing up in the 80's and early 90's kind of gave me an insight of different types of genres of music, but true to most of the music that has come out after the 90's. the so-called punk was anything but. back then to me music was only in certain categories such as if a band was punk then they were and if they were hardcore then they were. i think wikipedia is made up by people who have some knowledge of certain things. i only heard of screamo a few years ago and not in the 90's.

  17. m.... ....

@nando19751 Everything past the millennium in that category is terrible. But screamo was indeed around in the 90's, it was an offshoot of hardcore, but sounded much like hardcore. Check it out on Wikipedia.

  18. o.... m....

@muler321-back then screamo wasn't around that's some stupid shit the newer kids came up with nowadays. back in the early 90's and 80's emo was cool as hell. yeah you had the whiney kids, but they all had their sense of originality and being unique. when this whole carbon copy rip off of the old emo and trying to make it into a new thing came into play it totally sucked because they all were pansies. all in all the new emo sucked balls.

  19. m.... ....

@nando19751 Old emo is actually pretty cool; check out Rights of Spring and Jets to Brazil. As for screamo, Saetia and Orchid, as well as a ground-breaking hardcore band known as Mohinder bring forth true energy and emotion. 90's emo and screamo are actually pretty Awesome!!!

  20. d.... b....

Bill is a BEAST playing drums in this song!

  21. o.... m....

@shikengastxa-very true. i'm just glad the emo scene died out. too bad it didn't sooner, but that's where the whole fun trying to express oneself comes into play as a youth. i wonder what's next?

  22. o.... m....

@gribble503-unfortunately it has. remember when emo came out. well with goth and punk having a kid it gave birth to a mutated retarded cry baby scene.

  23. r.... s....

thankfully this music was never trampelled upon by the unworthy trend following know nothing jackball satanmason catttle...
