Depeche Mode - I Sometimes Wish I Were Dead Lyrics
New sound all around
You can hear it too
Getting hot, never stop
Just for me and you
Playing on my radio and saying that you had to go
New day turn away
Wipe away the tear
New night, feel right
Knowing that you're here
Dancing with you all the time, and don't you think that it's a crime
Back street never meet
Never say goodbye
I know where you go
But I don't know why

beautiful years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arise sir Vince Clarke accept a k ighthood
The Clarke in this is very strong.
love the mode this was on a free red flexidisc from flexipop magazine god i loved that mag!!.
Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, and Jean Micheal Jarre are the true pioneers of electro. KW, TD, and JMJ built the foundation, and Depeche Mode sanded it off.
Beautiful song
How did I miss this one? Wow. Been a fan since 1982.
Modern love since 81
5. Oktober 1981
Definitely got some Boney M style harmonies going on, love it & old enough to remember buying Flexipop unfortunately

How could such a chipper, upbeat, and happy song have such a depressing title?!!
Daniella Valadez Hahaha, I also think that. The first time I heard this song, I was doing some housework and it motivated me until I read its title
Never heard this one. What album?
It is the first album of Depeche Mode, 'Speak and Spell'.
A classic
Sounds so happy yet is depressing
I must to be honest,as a great DM'fans , Speak and spell is a not a good album at 50%. i dont listen this album since many many years . For me thats not really DM.But i Can understand some people like Vince Clarck' s style...
I 1st heard this song on the LP "Attack of the killer B's". You couldn't find this song here in the states and those "Killer B's albums were awesome.
My Favorite song from S&S!
My Vinyl Records Close second to Any Second Now (Voices) for me
I always imagine how it would be like if I wake up on the very early sunny morning and dj in radio starts the day with it... I must try it myself!
1981 friends thought depeche mode was just candy time...
Love Vince Clarke's back-up vocals!
0:46 AAAA -AAAA-AAA
In loving memory of my late wife Valerie. This music was her favourite
God bless you Stu
I send my love from Texas, USA
God bless her as well
I'm glad nobody has done a joke about this. :')
And mine to valerie had good taste
Sorry for your loss that's so sad
Sounds like the atari version of the Jet Set Willy theme!!!!!!
Assemblage 23 also did a song with this title and it sounds much more like you'd a song with that title would sound. It also sounds incredibly influenced by DM.
Gave birth to so many genres of music. Pioneers. Long live Sir Vincent of Clarke
This has become my favourite Depeche Mode song; highly addictive.
+canuck21 ikr? With such a depressing title you would not expect this.
Baby dave ): Imagine him years later wiggling his ass in the devotional tour
maria cristina ugh......hes got a sexey ass :D
Asshole
One of the most hillarious DM songs. Hard to believe, that Speak and Spell was released the same year I was born. Good luck all Depeche Mode fans.
I got trolled by the title lol.
Yuki Asakawa Uwierz mi, ja też xD
+Shibani Sharma my fav
Yuki Asakawa why?
I did too- about 25 years ago.
The beginning keyboard riff of this is pure Residents!
I strongly suspect Vince had a stronger presence in this song more than anyone else in the studio. It has pre-overtones of the Yaz/Yahoo-early Erasure eras.
The song also has a "thinner" sound compared to some of the other epics off Speak & Spell. There's only 2 or 3 synth melodies doing the Harmony at times, when in other S&S songs there's many more.
Because of this, and the short length, I wonder if any more work was planned on being done to the song. It does feel like it could have more Harmony or....something else that would make it fit with songs like Photographic in terms of complexity. Yet, the song is definitely not a demo since it is as properly mixed and mastered as the rest of the tracks. It was left out the on the American release of the album, but, who knows. Maybe more work was planned but with an upcoming tour and promotion to be done in America, maybe the guys (or Miller) felt that it wasn't worth the trouble.
With it's pulsating disco beat and upbeat lyrics, the song feels like it started off like it was planned to be a great single but as some point that idea must have been dropped in favor of "Just Can't" or "Dreaming of Me." Maybe the guys ran out of studio time.
I wonder also if this was made during the same recording session as "Shout." The vocals from both songs sound familiar, especially the background vocals, as if recorded the same day, mixed by the same engineer, same mics, etc.
Interestingly there were two different mixes - one version was given away with a magazine called Flexipop. It has a slightly different arrangement and sounds bassier.
Its such a great happy song with the most depressing title lol.. luv it !! luv every single depeche mode song forever !
Baby steps... Speak and Spell :)
I feel so the same way! Love them so much! Their whole journey and evolution. Little baby faced Dave <3
I have that flimsy orange vinyl record - so glad the re-released it onto CD... I love this song...
My fav song of all time!
whatevs the synth is the best thing ever
+Picatrix Magician It definitely isn't an arp. It could be some old Yamaha or something
3 years later but it's a Roland SH-2
Also a kawai analog, yamaha cs5, arp 2600(kick drum) and korg kpr77
Jupiter4 roland,moog prodigy,arp2600 yamaha cs-30
The beginning has to be the cheesiest synth line ever
@Ivan Malek I think the winner of that battle is the intro synth to Prince's "Delirious" ! (after the 808 drum intro)
@AngrierGorilla Don;t you think the background harmonies sound a lot like the harmonies in SHOUT. Like they recorded the same day, mixed by the same engineer, using the same reverb box, etc...
@David Villa
quite similar...
The Shout mix is a bit rougher on the background vox. I'm sure they were running out of money and time and some things got left before they were fully finished.
Ivan Malek best cheese ever😊❤️😬
Gosh I hated this song. Had to buy the cassette once again to get the one that included "Dreaming of Me" instead of this one! (my boyfriend liked that song too ). And I was a high-school kid with limited spend money!
Remember listening to this album, Genesis, Abacab and Soft Cell. @ Nov 1981....wow seems like yesterday...
Stop lying no you didn't listen to this in high school!
@comala27 I listened to this back in high school. It was on "attack of the killer bees" LP.
@comala27 Not everyone here is ages 13-21, you know that, right?
@ExcessiveSpareTime get out of here!
@lacuadra70 Have you heard Abacab the live version from the Mama Tour? Good stuff! it's on youtube!
Dave is so cute ♥
Vince's Clark creation!
freezepop sucks and I don't think they sound like this.
Someone's never heard of Freezepop
The US version of Speak & Spell doesn't have this song for some reason.
This would have charted for certain, top ten, if Mute had released this after Just can't get enough had been and gone from the UK Top Ten. Depeche mode are the best ever synthpop band and proved all the press wankers wrong who constantly put them down, still selling albums and touring today...
Technically DM's first single, (pre-dating Dreaming of Me) - issued as a red flexidisc with copies of Flexipop Issue 11 magazine. Also on the disc were Mute labelmates Fad Gadget with 'King of the Flies'.
Now I do wish i was dead after listening that fucking garbage !
Sometimes I wish the 3 dislikers are DEAD.
RasputinWatchSite 18 NOW!! lol
A international master piece.
A small note: the title is "I sometimes wish I was dead".
That isn't a unique sound....maybe for this generation....but there have been plenty like these in the past.
@JoeTyler85 I know they have to go and take the meaning out of it and censor everything its pathetic, im sure we can all cope with the words, its art!!
@TheDepMode ITS A BAD ASS ALBUM!!!
@Ironsulfate RIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ME ENCANTA !!!!!
I love this song. The album "Speak and Spell" is a very good album :)
Depeche Mode forever <3
THE 19 JANUARY AT BERCY <3
ahhh great song!!!!!
que se mueran todos estos muertos jaja son re malos
Fabian Yovanovich que son fe malos por eso an llegado donde an llegado mas de 30 años despues jajaja tu si ke eres malo y remalo
Vince Clark was good in Depeche Mode.
But he sucks in Erasure.
I mean it's better to work together with Dave and Martin thanwith Andy Bell, who is only a fucking gay man and has no voice,
I have this track now, great stuff!! So much different than all their other albums with Alan Wilder
you've bought the US version I think. In the italian one this is the second track of the album
For me the greatest DM song
I have the North American version of Speak and Spell, and this was'nt on it :(, it's a great song!!
really nice
To jest DISCO RELAX!!! - będę sobie pisał co mi się podoba!-bo lubię sobie tak pożartować i poczytać Wasze reakcje - a na koncert do Wawy 23 maja - mam już bilet !!!! - Nie pozdrawiam

Speak and Spell!!Cooooooooooooooolll!!!
You've just made my day.. Bought this album when it came out in the early 80's and totally loved it. Played it to death! Now gonna surf and order it on CD..!!
GREAT SONG, POOR VIDEO
such a unique sound, something that exists no more
this song is censored in some countries because the line "sometimes i wish i was DEAD" could be offensive for some people
Bullshit, if you ask me
bought this album about a week ago and it didn't have this track, why not? stupid record companies....
